    My Trip Report

The wife and I are off to Las Vegas on a 5:50 am flight out of Burlington, VT tomorrow (Monday) morning. 3 nights at Southpoint, 4 at Mandalay Bay, and then back to Southpoint for the final 2 nights of the trip.

I’ve borrowed my brother’s iPad for the trip, so I plan on writing some live reports while I’m out there (if I can figure out how to use it).

When we deplane from our economy coach seats there will be no limousines waiting to pick us up at the airport, no casino hosts awaiting our arrival, and no comps of any kind associated with our visit. Our rental car will come from Payless…not Hertz or Avis.

No crowds will part as we pass through the casinos, and no pit bosses will give us a second glance. We won’t soil the carpets of the high limit rooms, not have any dinner reservations at big name restaurants. We are what we are – blue collar low rollers!

Still, the Las Vegas economy will benefit from our 9 day visit. We’ll spend money eating at buffets, seeing a show or two (Jersey Boys this trip) and visiting various attractions. We may do a little shopping, see some movies, visit a food truck or two, and of course lose money on the slot machines and blackjack tables.

When we leave, various casinos won’t know who we are but they’ll have made some money on us.

First stop: Southpoint, duct tape in hand and ready to tape off the curtains.

SOMEONE might put Las Vegas out of business between now and when you are scheduled to arrive, but I can assure you it WON'T be ME!

By the way, how do you place the icons in the body of your message?

Good luck. We are low rollers as well and making the pilgrimage Saturday. Pretty sure I am not going to strike it rich, but will leave my mark in Vegas once again. Safe travels.

We are also low rollers compared to some but have just as much fun. We are coming out Friday staying at the T.I. for 4 nights. Weather looks like it should be good compared to Wisc.

Looking forward to following along! U must be there now. We are headed there Thursday to spend 3 nights. Our first trip ever to celebrate our 12th anniversary
Can't wait to see the place. Like u, we fly economy....no limos or anything although we did decide to "splurge" on Flamingo GO rooms instead of the cheapo Imperial Palace.

We don't gamble but might mess on the penny slots. Just planning to spend our time walking the Strip.

    Hello All!

    Day 1 Monday.

Drove wife to airport at 5am, dropped her off with the luggage, then drove home and walked back to airport in 23 degree weather with only my t-shirt on. An invigorating start to the trip!

Uneventful and on time flight from Burlington to Las Vegas via Chicago on United.

Got to LAS, took tram to luggage pickup area. No luggage. Why? United luggage now goes to a new Terminal. Thanks for letting us know! Now another long walk and then a shuttle bus ride to the new terminal followed by another long walk to find the right carousel.

Next a ride on a shuttle to our rental car. One hour wait in line for Payless.

Finally arrived at South Point around 2pm. Of course no rooms yet available. Finaly got in at 3pm Room on 6th floor with view to west. Not great, but who cares? Brought duct tape to tape curtains to wall so we could sleep...keeping out the lights from their super bright spotlights.

M Buffet for dinner, followed by a little gambling there. Nice place. Clean, never crowded, easy parking very close to the door. An excellent buffet. Brought the casino to it's knees, leaving with a $12 profit.

Back to SP, where wifey and I managed to lose $18 before heading for bed. Lots of sleep to make up!

Unexpected treat - Free Wi-Fi at South Point!

Talk to you all again. Tomorrow!

    John

Is it free wifi in your room, or just in the lobby?

    Day two (Tuesday)

Slept until 9am, thereby catching up sleep time lost yesterday. Hung around the room, checking email, drinking coffee, showering, etc. Typed my TR.

We have tickets for Jersey Boys 9:30 show tonight, but day is wide open. We decide to go to the Clark County Museum in Henderson, having seen it promoted on Pawn Stars. Along the way we stop at In 'n' Out Burger for the first time ever. Not bad, but was expecting something a little more exciting.

CC Museum was very interesting, and admission was $1. We especially enjoyed the history of Las Vegas from the 30s through today, and all the pictures and artifacts from the old Casinos that are no more.

Back to Southpoint to change and head over to the strip. We had planned on doing the buffet at Caesars and then walking over to Paris for the show, but decided we might not have enough time, so we valet parked at Paris and had a nice dinner at Mon Ami Gabi.

After dinner we hit the slot machines...the "penny" machines of course. Wife and I sat down and of curse hit nothing, but the woman in the machine beside me was hitting, it seemed, with every spin. I told myself after the show I'd see if her machine was vacant. We left for show time down a collective $28.

Jersey Boys show was even better than I was expecting. Show started late...doors not even opening until almost 9:30 show time. No big deal, though, as only half the seats were filled. Maybe it's time for them to lower ticket prices. But again...one of the best show I've ever been to.

After he show we race back into the casino and, lo and behold, the machine the lady won all the money on is free. So I sit down and toss a $50 into the slot. Yep, I'm a big spender tonight! To my right sits a woman playing the machine I lost on earlier. "Sucker" I say to myself. Of course you know the rest...my machine eats all my money while hers hits in every spin. So now I'm down another $50.

Meanwhile, the wife is playing her favorite machine...More Hearts. She cashes out up $8 and we sad for the car. I've made my donations to CET for this day!

Back at South Point we're headed for the. Room, but of course he wife sees a slot machine she says is calling to her, so down we sit and each lose a quick $10.

So our day ends with gambling losses of $83, bringing our two day total to a loss of $111.

Nothing planned yet for Day three, but this torrid gambling pace must be brought under control!

Thanks for taking the time, as I'm really enjoying your report. I totally agree about In and Out Burger being underwhelming after hearing so many raves about it  I am a big fan of the M Buffet, though

Not sure if you have been to SIlverton, but when I was there in Oct they were running a promotion where if you earned a small number of points, they comped the buffet. We happened to be there on a Sunday, and it was a pretty decent Brunch (nothing like The M, though) including champagne drinks that were quite yummy. Just thought I would mention it in case you have free time and want to check it out.
