Fontainebleau?

I just read somewhere in a trip report that escapes me now that the furniture in her room somewhere must have come from the Fontainebleau sale. Does anyone know what this is about? I don't recall where the property was supposed to go, nor what happened to the project.

 

Plaza bought the furniture a while ago and used it in their renovated rooms

 

What happened to the so-called Foutainbleau and where was it supposed to be built?

 

Far north strip, you can still see the structure, its kinda sad. Its just rusting away.

No, that was the Eschelon Development on that site of the old Frontier. Fountain bleu is across the street.

Echelon was being built on the former Stardust property. Fontainebleau was being built on the old El Rancho / Silverbird / Thunderbird site. The Frontier site remains barren.

 

Fontainebleau and Turnberry partially rest on the (second) El Rancho property. The Thunderbird and Silverbird also occupied that portion of the site at one time. The Algiers was on what is now the South end of Fontainebleau. The original Wet 'n Wild occupied the North end of the property.

In 1988 if you walked South down that side of LV Blvd you'd first pass Sahara, then Wet n' Wild, then El Rancho, and, lastly, the Algiers. The irony is not lost that all four of these memorable places died.

It's so sad to see a huge building that close to being done, just sitting there. Well, at least the external shell is about done anyways. There was a video online not that long ago of some guy who snuck in there and climbed all the way to the top. The view was pretty impressive up there. So sad.

 

Rumor has it Fontainebleau will be torn down in order to sell the existing steel, etc.

 

What happened to it? Why was it abandoned?

Man, that end of the strip just can't seem to catch a break. I wonder how long "The Riv" will be around.

 

About two weeks ago an aide to Carl Icahn (current owner of Fontainebleau) hinted movement is on the near horizon. He stated (to local media) a deal may be in the works to sell the resort intact to a developer who wants to finish it. So, add one more scenario to the list of rumors.

That's more current than my rumor, so it's more likely true. That would be cool if they finish it. The Fontainebleau project along with the SLS Sahara rehab could revitalize the north end of the strip.

 

My first choice as well. Another vacant lot in that area would be disappointing. The only people I know who want to see Fontainebleau come down live in Turnberry Towers. They want their view West back.

Man... ain't that the truth! One of my favorite things to do with an out of towner as I drive them around is to drive that street between LV Blvd and Paradise and show them the Turnberry Towers right next to the Fountainebleu and how close that parking garage is to those units. I feel terrible for the people who own those, but it's an exercise in knowing the zoning around your property and sometimes even that isn't enough.
