Trying to sleep 12 people in Vegas on a budget

Hello all!!

I am looking to get some advice for the best way to sleep 12 people in Vegas for 3 nights (March 28-31)...

Booking multiple rooms is expected...but what I am trying to figure out is what will be the most economical.

For example, should I get a suite that can sleep 8 and a reqular room that can sleep 4? or should I get three rooms that can sleep 4? or two mini-suites that can sleep 6?

We want to stay on the strip...

Any advice and insight is greatly appreciated.

 

I guess it depends on what your budget is. I would say the cheapest option would be to get 4 rooms at the Quad (Imperial Palace). You could probably get 12 rooms at the Quad for what a suite or 2 mini suites would cost at many places. The issue I see with getting suites or mini suites is that you will not have many bathrooms and you will likely have people sleeping on pull-out sofas or roll away beds. Another thing to consider is that prices are always based on double occupancy with surcharges for more people and for roll away beds. I don't think these policies are often enforced, but it is still something to consider.

 

All you need is 1 room with 2 double beds. 2 people can sleep per bed in 4 hour shifts. If they are young, they can have a 3 hour shift.

Also budget in 2 bottles of 5 hour energy per day ($1 - $3 cost per bottle) and you should be all set.

 

Suites generally don't let you sleep more people. Definitely not 8, unless you're in one of the really huge ones. So if you're trying to sleep more people on a budget, stay away from the lower end suites...usually they are bigger rooms, but don't have more beds. And the extra cost won't help you sleep more people -- it will just be more comfortable.

If you want to jam together, just get 3 rooms at one of the low end strip places. If you want to spread out a bit, go a little higher end with a place like Ballys that has bigger rooms and a great location.

I'd say your best bet is 3 rooms/4 people but even that is gonna be pretty cramped. Id get 4 rooms/3 people so it would'nt be as bad. Splitting the bill between 3 people is still gonna be really cheap no matter where you stay.

 

One good thing about getting a suite is that there is a communal place where all 12 of you can fit together (to party, not to sleep), which you couldn't do with three normal rooms sleeping four apiece. But most suites still only allow a maximum of four people.

 

Ballys is probably the best value on the strip in terms of square feet. Rio is even better because there is plenty of extra room to move about and groom. And even though the couches aren't pullouts, a person could probably sleep on one.

 

Is your group all men or are some females? The main problem I see with trying to cram a lot of people into a few hotel rooms is the lack of bathrooms - especially if you have females in the group. You can mitigate this problem to a degree if you book true suites (ones which have both a bathroom and separate powder room, bedroom with two beds and separate living room) as opposed to the faux "suites" which are just a larger room with a single bathroom. Not many hotels offer true suites with two beds, many just have a king bed.

Of course it's probably much cheaper to simply book 6 rooms at a really low end place like IP/Quad.

 

LOL, do like what we used to do up on Cape Cod when I was in college. Have the straightest looking guy in your group go and rent one room. Then all of you pile in with sleeping bags and blankets and coolers and such!

 

Don't forget about the budget motels east of the strip like Super 8, America's Best Value etc. They are just a few blocks from the strip and will save you money (especially on weekends).

Thanks for everyones input! There are six couples going and I am floating the bill for all the rooms...its for a friends 21st Bday. I am thinking Excalibur is the best bet...its on the strip, inexpensive, fun, and near NYNY and Luxor

The bathroom thing is an issue but we will just have to deal with it.

The bathroom will be an issue as much as the smells, the odd hours, the snoring, all that.

Something to keep in mind is the lack of guarantee of getting 2 queen beds in your room.

What happens when you show up and they only have kings beds in the rooms?

 

Dont forget about the $15.00/day/room resort fee at Excalabur. No resort fees at IP, Flamingo, Harrahs, Ballys, Bills.

 

One place "could" fit your needs and you "could" do it with two or three rooms, it depends on if you want to walk. Check Holiday Inn Club (Desert Club Resort). It's behind Harrah's and within walking distance to the Strip. They have two bedroom suites with sofa beds. That's going to be your cheapest option for a two bedroom place that is close to the Strip. Maybe Polo Towers or Marriott Grand Vacations but I bet Polo will be booked as you are traveling during spring break season. Marriott is going to cost more money too. The Holiday Inn option might have multiple bathrooms too. Not sure.

One of the first times I went to Vegas a friend of mine was insistent on staying at the Venetian. He also was insistent he could make it fit within our budget. This was actually his suggestion, no joke.......

I'd get 3 regular size rooms with 4 each. Having 8 in a suite is stupid, because you still only have one bathroom...

We once did 5 in a suite at THEhotel, there is a bath and a half, we had 2 in each bed and one on the sofa in the living room.


It's an expensive spring break weekend though.. I mean only so cheap you can go..

I would check places like Luxor, Excalibur, Flamingo, Harrah's, Rio all seem to have the most reasonable rates. If you want to look at suites check THEhotel or Rio, both have 2 beds in the rooms and couches.

The three quads sounds like your best bet

If a couple is not happy they can always book a double room while they are there. I'm not a big motel fan in a town like LV ,too much street trash around ,I'd stick with the casino hotels for security if nothing else.
