Golden Gate Room Bathrooms

I didn't want to hijack the other Golden Gate thread currently going on and I didn't see another thread that talked about this..

I love the Golden Gate casino. I always have a blast there. Earlier this month I was there and I took them up on a free night since I knew it'd be easier to just stay there than cab it back to the strip after a night of partying. And party I did. I dropped a bundle and hit the hay around 4:30.

The room (#331) was fine, although it was right on Fremont. I think if the show were going on I would have had trouble. They played music around 9:00 a.m and it woke me up and it wasn't even that loud.

What blew me away was the room was new but the bathroom was horrible. I'm not a picky guy, I've stayed at tons of marginal places, but this thing was beat and looked like the last time it was remodeled was maybe 1952. I wasn't using the shower since I had a room on the strip but I don't think I would have wanted to use it. It was broken tile, rusty and just gross. My buddy had a room up the hall and it was the same way.

I was bummed because I really do like the casino. Does anyone know if they are still remodeling or if that is it? I'm sure to get room offers from them in the future but if this is what I can expect I think I will pass.

 

Wow ... I would have thought the bathrooms would already be remodeled, what with all the other property and room upgrades that have taken place.

The one and only time that we stayed at the GG was several years before all the recent changes. We stayed in corner room #404, and our bathroom back then was a mess. I had to use a coat-hanger to unclog the sink, and later had to fix the flapper chain in the toilet, in order to stop the water from running continuously. It was easier to fix everything myself, rather than wait for a maintenance guy to show up.

 

Drambler, are you sure you didn't wake up in the drunk tank room?

 

When I booked my trip in August, we thought of staying at the Golden Gate because we too love the casino and wanted to try it. However, I'd heard of the legendary small bathrooms so I called. The man I spoke with was quite pissy to say the least when I asked if the bathrooms were also remodeled and sniffed that since the bathrooms were the size they were, they couldn't very well make them bigger, they just renovated the rooms.

Needless to say we booked another hotel. I prefer a bathroom I can actually shower in.

 

One room I stayed in was redone but the bathroom was not remodeled. The door hit the commode. Old tile. It was funny.
I stayed in a another room that was laid out differently and had a super fancy bathroom. Walk-in shower, fancy fixtures, the whole thing. The bathroom was nicer than even the redone room!

 

I've heard they're planning to remodel the bathrooms, but they haven't gotten very far with that yet. I remember one bathroom at the GG where I literally had to close the bathroom door in order to even access the toilet. I know I know, you'd normally want to close the door anyway, right? But here you HAD to close it or the entire toilet was blocked.

 

If it was the drunk tank, it sure had a nice bed and a nice tv.

The bathroom was super small and the door did hit the toilet. But the size didn't matter to me, it was just how beat up it was. Hopefully it will soon get a makeover.

I was booked into Room 327. It was situated about five feet from the Freemont Street Experience loud speaker and yes - the bathroom was small and rugged as described above. I will add that the hallways smelled like a commode. It's as if the patrons refused to use the bathroom and opted for the hallways instead.

Sick.
