So I'll be in Vegas in 11 days for my 30th birthday and my buddy's 33rd birthday. We decided that we want to do a "casino crawl"; essentially hit every casino on the strip and have 1 beer and play one game ($20-25 budget for a game at each casino). We want to do this because it seems like everytime we go out we seem to hit the same places.. this way we get to see every place.... and it should be a memorable trip for out birthdays.

Our home base is MGM so we are first gonna hit Hooters and tropicana. Then go to Mandalay all the way down to TI. Cross over to Encore and come all the way back to MGM. So we will be hitting 26 casinos along the way. We definately are well beyond our college days but as long as we keep it at a decent pace and with all the walking in between i think we can handle 26 beers... without dying.....hopefully... lol.

So here's where I'm looking for a little help/advice. It would be nice to have a gameplan for the gaming so we dont just lose the money at every casino. I have 2 ideas:
    1. Double or nothing. Take the $20 and keep playing till we make $40 or bust out.
    2. Put a max timer on it... like 5 minutes. Walk away after 5 minutes with whatever we have left whether its $1 or $100.
    What do you guys think?

So the second part i need help with is what games to play. We are planning on just picking what game we play at each casino at random... maybe pick it out of a hat or roll a die. So for our $20-25 budget we obviously can't play every game but heres what i was thinking

    Slots
    blackjack
    VP
    craps
    pai gow
    roulette
    keno?

obviously at some of the nicer places with higher table min, we will have to pool our money together. Any other games you guys can think of would be helpful... just remember we only want to play $20-25 each per casino.. so i dont think we can do ultimate texas holdem or mississippi stud that has multiple bets. But if we pool our money we can probably do 3 card poker or let it ride.

    Any ideas would help...

    thanks in advance

I would take a break midway at Northern Strip and bet $20 on a game in the book, have a bite to eat, and head out when game is over. Perhaps at Lagasses in the Palazzo?

Even at the nicest places, you can get a game for $25, so you don't have to worry about pooling your bets.

I don't recommend craps, because to take advantage of craps you want more money than what you want to bet at each place.

And you don't want Keno because of the poor odds.

The problem you're going to have is getting the free beers in a short period of time gambling...in order to maximize free beer, I recommend bartop video poker. Stick a $20 in the machine, get your beer, and then play max bet at quarters ($1.25 a hand) and try to hit something. Cash out if you get down to $10 or up to $40.

Can we get a pool going on what casino you end up in when you quit? :)

Me and two buddies did this years ago, not as intense on what you are thinking of doing. We went from the Riviera (where we were staying down to the new place, MGM Grand, tells you how long ago). We each bought $10 in nickels and just played slots all the way down. We actually got lucky and that original $30 got us all the way to MGM, drinking one beer at each place along the way. It will be a challenge to get your drinks before your money runs out. I like the VP bar idea, unless you can find some nickel slots somewhere.

I have a feeling we will end up doing more video poker and just sitting at the bar..... You are right, its the only definate that we will get the free drink while playing. But we are ok with hitting a stand or bar and buying a beer on the way into a casino.

I do like the idea of the pool.... I'll take the challenge. My buddy's wife is gonna be with us and documenting our stops. She wont be drinking nearly as much.
I think we can also do a pool for
-where we have to stop and take our first bathroom break.
    - how many bathroom breaks we need to stop and take.
-How many hours it takes us to for 1 side of the strip and for the full trip.
    - which property asks us to leave or cuts us off.

We are planning on doing this on saturday nov 17th... so i'll keep you guys posted.

    A couple of other comments:

    1) We have done three slot golf casino crawls. We have discovered that Keno is a great place to rest, do some really cheap gambling and grab a couple of free drinks. Drink service in keno parlors are usually pretty good. You can bet two or three bucks on a couple of games and put your feet up for 15 minutes or so and get a couple of drinks..

    2) If you start at Tropicana Blvd at the strip (MGM), go down the strip to Hacienda (Mandalay Bay), then turn around and walk up the strip to Sands Ave (Pallazio) and then back to where you start, you will travel 4.5 miles. And that is WITHOUT LEAVING LAS VEGAS BLVD! Everyone who has ever been to Vegas knows you can walk almost a qaurter mile from the Blvd to some of the gaming floors. I would bet - conservatively - you are planning a trip that will cover walking over 8 miles. And that is assuming you are not trying to walk to the Rio or the Palms. Our crawls have taken over 12 hours and we "cheated" a bit by strategically taking trams or the monorail or an occassioinal taxi. Plan out your trip carefully - for example, making your southern leg end at Luxor instead of Mandalay Bay can save over 1/2 mile of walking.

Ah, this brings back awesome memories. I used to do this in the early 80s and I would start at Vegas World (remember that place?) and work my way Down to the Hacienda then cross the street hit the Trop and finish up at the Sahara. Did it all on foot and it would take a good part of the day, but it was a lot of fun. Hope you have a great time!!

Do all the casinos still do keno? I remember excalibur did the last time i was there but i havent seen it at all of the other casinos.

I am definately expecting this to be 12-16 hours... about 1/2 hour or so to get into each casino grab a drink/play and walk to the next place.

So this was how i was planning on hitting it.
Cross over tropicana to walk to hooters and Tropicana
Take the monorail at excalibur to Mandalay
    Monorail to luxor.
Cut through to excalibur through luxor.
hit NYNY, MC, Aria, Cosmo, Bellagio, CP, Mirage and TI all by foot. (although does anyone know if the tram runs from Mirage to TI?)
Go across to Encore, Wynn, Pallazo, Venetian, Casino Royale, Harrahs, IP, flamingo, Bills, Ballys, Paris, PHo..... then it might be a good idea to cab it back to MGM for our final stop.

I am a Big boy ~350 lbs so all this walking is gonna be interesting..... although for some reason when Im in vegas i dont mind the walk..... usually all the skinny guys are complaining telling me they wanna stop.

I wouldn't consider Hooters to be on the strip, so you could skip that one
