Planet Ho vs Cosmo - am I crazy?

I have a trip coming up in April with a bunch of 50 YO guys. It is primarily a golf trip. The other guys are into shows etc but I will spend a lot of non-golf time gambling. I mostly play at the 10/15 craps tables and tend to bounce around from casino to casino.

The guys want to stay at Cosmo so I booked my room at a total price of $1140 for the four nights. Just for fun, I checked out Planet Ho - right across the street - because it is one of the places I enjoy playing. Total price for the same four nights is $670. That is $470 difference for a four night trip. I booked Planet Ho also, so I can decide later which to cancel.

Other than the fact that I get the Marriott Rewards points for staying at the Cosmo, is there really that much of a difference?

 

If you can do without the 20 something dressed as if they are in Europe and acting like 20 something's you will be fine at ph. Room of course won't be as nice , as long as that isn't a top priority.

 

Paris or Pho may well be way better than Cosmo. Why spend all that money just for your room. Not like a bunch of 50 year old guys will get romantic on the balcony.

If you are driving rental car, Paris might be even better. Car parking and Valet at PH gets low reviews.

 

So you're suggesting that to avoid the young folk he should go to PHo...

 

Good point about the Paris garage if you have a rental car. Never stayed at Cosmo, but I believe I would stay across the street to save a little money. The PH rooms are a little worn, but very comfortable.

Also, staying at PH gives you a little separation from the rest of the group. Not sure how long you are staying, but after a day or so I like to get away from a group.

 

The rooms at PH are pretty outdated, I wouldn't say you can really compare room wise. But there is a ton to do at PH and your gambling limits will be lower. I always feel Cosmo is way overpriced... and if you guys are 50 I doubt are hitting up Marquee, or shopping at their hipster stores lol.

But, if your friends are looking for luxury and to be impressed by the room, you aren't going to get that at PH. But the property it self is pretty nice and updated.

Like mentioned above.. if you are driving though PH is a gigantic pain in the rear... the parking is like a mile away from the casino, and for that reason the valet is always extremely backed up.

I will be cabbing to and from the airport and for a trip downwon. Other than that, no car. We will be renting a limo to get us to and from the golf courses and probably spending the eveings on the strip. It might be a bit of a pain to schlep my clubs across the street to the Cosmo each morning, but I will survive. Or they can pick me up out back of Planet Ho - or even on the side door on Harmon.

 

That's a lot of money to give up. I wouldn't fault you hanging on to it. Unless your friends are planning some special in-suite activities, it doesn't sound like there is a special reason why it needs to be Cosmo. My second time there I did spend some time in the casino and it was okay. I wouldn't mind spending more time there. But I've yet to hear something about it that makes me want to spend more money to stay there over other places.

 

So, you have not pointed out to the them the $470 savings to get their attention?

Not sure how many rooms you are getting, but that could add to lots of bucks. Maybe you can take some of the savings a book a suite for get togethers for a few beers at PH or Paris.

 

Not at all, as my post says, if you can do without the 20 something dressed in Euro style, that seems to be the biggest difference with the crowd. I think we all know they both have younger crowds.

 

My last trip to Vegas I actually spent a little time in Cosmo. Played some $25blackjack and met a very friendly dealer. I also think the Chandelier Lounge is pretty cool - great for people watching. But then again, I can hang out there and cross the street to go to bed.

My friends are all lawyers who think they need to stay at the most upscale places. My last trip I stayed with at the Marriott timeshare. A great place, but I figured out that I spent 22 hours in the room over the course of 5 days and 18 of those hours were asleep.

I think I am talking myself into my answer.

Lol, what does that mean? People do however dress up and look a lot better in general then the crowd at PH.

About the savings only u can make that decision if it worth the savings or not. The Cosmo is however a much nicer and more upscale hotel. It all depends on were u would like to spend your time and how much the room matter to you. Also when going with a larger group i find it much more convenient to stay were u will spend a lot of time. So try to find out were u like to eat, drink, gambol and such before making your decision.

I'm only 35 and felt like a "mom" in there. Didn't feel dressed up enough for 10am on a saturday morning. The vibe of the casino is young ppl in there early 40's trying to act younger. Didn't see anyone at all who looked 50 in the whole casino.
Who really cares anyways as long as your are fun and seem or are rich you will fit in.
