hollywood casino columbus ohio opens

our local casino finally opened monday october 8th. i have been there twice since it opened. is a very nice facility. haven't ate there yet but they have several restaurants. typical to a new place, crowds have been pretty tough so far.

i don't like the fact that the table minimums are pretty high. minimum to play bj is $25 right now. i usually play at that level but don't like to be told that i have to. lowest table min i saw was mississsippi stud at $10, three card was $15 as was roulette. played a couple of hours of poker, room is very nice.

i realize the dealers need some time to get their feet wet but overall i would give them about a 5 out of 10. i've played with a couple 7s but also with a couple of 2s. dealing, for the most part, has been agonizingly slow. i've seen multiple mistakes by the dealers but have only said something when i only involved me. not my business to comment on anothers hand.

 

We saw the same headaches with the new/green dealers both here in Cleveland and over at Hollywood Toledo when they both opened earlier this year. Things have gotten considerably better at both. The Hollywood Columbus is supposed to be very similar to Toledo, even has the same layout and restaurants/bars from what I see. You should definitely check out the Final Cut restaurant - it's a little pricey, but the steak and seafood there are both excellent (for Ohio).

I will be visiting for the first time Thursday night and Friday night this week - probably spending most of my time in the poker room. Just planning a big weekend leading up to the OSU game on Saturday. If you go and see me say hi!

T: Did rates go down in Cleveland as the "novelty" of a new casino wore off (assuming it has)?

A buddy is going to the steakhouse at HCbus on Saturday for his anniversary. I look forward to his review. I plan to hit the Cbus casino sometime in November.

 

Is it an easy drive from the Easton area?

 

$15 a hand BJ now.

 

I feel like it is pretty accessible from anywhere. The crowd made it tough once I got to the lot/parking deck but the drive there (my drive is from Powell so I guess I can't specifically answer your question) was easy as cake. Hope this helps

 

If you can picture I-270 which is like a 20 mile circle around Columbus, Easton is at about 3:00 on the circle, and the casino is at about 8:00. Probably faster to take 670 or 70 west to get to it, maybe 20 minutes if no traffic.

 

As someone pointed out, $15 is the norm. But any weekend or sporting event and it's $25... I've seen $50 mins on a Sat night when there's an Indians AND Cavs game going on the same time. I've also seen $10 once, at like 3:30am on a Tuesday. I play more in the poker room than the floor, just walk past and observe mainly.

The Cleveland casino is always packed, even in the middle of the night, it's hard to find a seat at a table or place to stand/play at a craps table. I find that annoying. I prefer Toledo as I can easily find a place to play a table game if I decide to play them.

 

I work security at Hollywood Columbus. During the week nights, its been steady but not unmanageable, the weekends are expected to be full blown. Just remeber that parking is free unless you valet, Westland had been charging people to park to go to the casino. Remember that 90% of the staff is new to the business and there is bound to be mistakes. We had a whole table over paid, most knew they were over paid and said nothing. No other hands were delt until they consulted the eye in the sky, I cant go into any more detail than that but mistakes do happen and hopefully everyone understands.

Played at Hollywood Columbus for the first time last night. As suspected, it is almost identical to Toledo (maybe a little bigger but overall same layout)... but much more crowded.

One thing I did not like was the craps tables.... mins were high, but the kicker was you only get 2x odds (2.5x on 6 and 8). Most places at least give you the 3-4-5x odds (Toledo does). Hopefully they change that if another casino ever opens within a half hour from here. Until then I suppose they can set the price (although I won't be playing for 2x odds if I come back, will stick to poker only).
