NFL: I miss Pat Summeralll and John Madden in the broadcast booth

I was watching some old NFL videos.

There was no one better at play by play than Pat Summerall.

I actually think Troy Aikman is a better color analyst than Madden. Madden is still missed.

Yeah... they were good, but Gruden has grown on me. His love and passion for the game coupled with his incredible knowledge makes him very entertaining IMHO. He's not a great orator by any stretch, but I still enjoy him.

 

How can anyone forget the CBS NFL Today introduction from the early 80s?

Gotta admit, I was never a big fan of them. Mid-eighties, they were all right. But by the nineties, madden's schtick wore thin and Summerall got too old.

But I would still take them over Joe Buck!

 

Anybody is better than Joe Buck!

 

Madden and Summerall were the BEST.

 

I never cared for Gruden.

I listened to him tonight and you are spot on.

What he has to say is interesting and informative, but his delivery and voice make him difficult to enjoy. He doesn't really have an announcer's voice.

 

I could tell Madden was losing his edge when he did the Rams Patriots SB.
