    Welcome to the board.

Well before we can make any suggestions we need some more info. How much are you guys looking to spend, what age group do you fall in and what exactly are you planning on doing while there?

Yeah probably need to know what age group you fall in. If you are all in the 21-35 age group then Cosmopolitan and Planet Hollywood are your best bet for a first trip

I'd just stay anything 4 star and above, and just decide which amenities are important to you!

Thank you...We're in our mid 30s. Some of us like to gamble. We would like to catch a show or two, sightseeing, and of course shopping.

If it's within your budget, I'd suggest Wynn or Encore, which are both part of the same complex. They're as nice as anything else in the city, and they are just across the street from the Fashion Show mall, which is probably the best place to go shopping in the immediate vicinity. It also has an excellent buffet and good restaurants. The staff are super friendly, easily the best of all the places I've stayed, and the Encore spa is extremely posh. Supposedly the in house show "Le Reve" is cool, but I've never been to it personally. Also, everyone says the nightclubs there are great, but that's not my thing so I don't know. They also make the best Bloody Mary I've had anywhere outside of New Orleans.

    The downsides are:
    - Everything there is expensive (sign up for their newsletter to get codes for hefty discounts, though)
    - It's on the far north side of the Strip, which means lots of walking or taxis to get anywhere (though it sounds like you might be renting a car, if you're going sightseeing)

Other options at the high end:
    - Cosmopolitan
    - Aria
    - Bellagio

All three are nice, center strip, close to CityCenter shopping. If you're looking for a high-end experience, any of the above will do.

If you're looking to spend a little less without being cheap, MGM Grand's renovated rooms will be a pretty good option. If you want the best pool, Mandalay Bay. Mirage is not bad, either, but tends to be overpriced on weekends. I've never stayed at Planet Hollywood and disliked it when I've walked through it, but some people like it. Same with Bally's.

And if you want to go on the cheap without staying at a dump, I'd suggest Luxor's tower rooms (sign up for the promo emails or check travel sites to score a good deal, since the normal rates are inflated) or the Monte Carlo.

First of all, no need to plan this early

Though if you book refundable, you can always watch for good deals.
It is important to know your budget to make the best suggestions.
I would drop Wynncore; we stayed there once and the location was offputting. Our Palace Tower Deluxe room at Caesars was nicer & more convenient.
Nicest resorts w/ best location: Caesars (Palace Tower or better), Bellagio, Aria, Cosmopolitan, Venetian/Palazzo (less central)
Mid-range (upper): Mirage, Planet Hollywood, Paris, TI, MGM (last 2 less central)
Mid-range (lower): Ballys, Harrahs, Monte Carlo
Do realize you will often need to add $25 or so/nt to your room price for most hotels except Caesar's properties. This is a non-voluntary resort fee. If you wanted internet or fitness access anyway, I understand. Just making you aware.

I am mid-40s, love to party, have been coming to Vegas for 20 years. I like center strip still. My fav is Caesars (Palace Tower Deluxe was the nicest room we have stayed in anywhere--beat Wynn & Pebble Beach). But I would love to stay at Aria or Cosmo--LOVE these casinos. Lower on my list I would like to try V/P or Bellagio. But we get the best rates at Caesar's properties, so that is where we usually stay. We have stayed at all the mid-range casinos listed above--PH is definitely my fav, followed by Mirage; Ballys & Harrahs tie for our favs on the lower range; we stay at those 2 most often as they are typically comped for us.

Center strip allows you to go north one day, south another, easily by foot. Best shopping is Caesars Forum Shoppes, lesser so at V/P & PH, City Center (Cosmo/Aria) Bellagio & Wynn have very high end shops. Fashion Show Mall by TI/Wynn is a HUGE mall, though more typical offerings. I highly recommend hitting the north (or south; north is nicer) outlet mall--last January snagged a $400 Coach bag for $100--foolishly didn't buy more.

Shows: I highly recommend Terry Fator--he is hilarious & amazingly talented (and I am NOT a ventriloquist kinda gal)! & either LOVE or Mystere. I prefer LOVE--Cirque de Soleil has a certain weirdness factor that I felt was minimized with the familiar Beatles music. Mystere was a close 2nd.

Thank you....we love to shop especially for Coach bags/purses.

Well, we lived in different states with demanding jobs and schedules. I'm a planner so I wanted to jump start things.

Since you have so long until you have to book, I'd suggest you keep looking at places deals are posted.

I post all the offers I get in the Hotel Offers & Discounts section here. If you have Facebook, you might also want to "like" some of the casino/hotels you're considering. I looked at may offers before booking my trip and ended up with a deal from Facebook being the best.

Definitely, with 9-10 months to plan this thing, you should be in deal-shopping mode.... check the prices on flights regularly, from each person's location... you may not buy the flights all at the same time. Check the deals on the hotel rooms and packages every week or so, you'll see trends and will have a sense of the best time to book. You're going at a great time of year, and it isn't too crowded then (unless there's some convention in town, don't know).

The hotel/resort advice has been spot on so far - my wife recommended Wynn for the shopping across the street, inside, and next door @ Venetian - she's done the girls trip before and they are all shoppers. With all that shopping right there, they still cabbed it to Caesars to shop the forum shops too - but there's plenty around town.

Thank you, I will check the Hotels Offers and Discounts section on a regular basis. I have a fb page and liked some of the hotels cause I have read that they offer deals thru fb too.

Thanks TRN, I am in deal-shopping mode cause I want the best deals for flight/hotel. I have heard some great things about Ceasars.

Between now and when you finally book next summer you will change hotels multiple times.

In the meantime, scan these boards and read a bit on the variance in hotels.

Figure out where you think you will be spending time eating, drinking, shopping, shows. If you can avoid taxis, it will make life easier.

Also, log into various travel sites and hotels to get an idea of the WIDE variance in hotel prices. You can easily spend under a $100 (sometimes under $50) for a good hotel to $400 on the high end. It amazes me how folks will often suggest the high end hotel when it really does not fit the budget for others.

Youtube is your friend - you can look at specific rooms thanks to the countless people who have stayed there and filmed their rooms for people trying to compare apples and oranges.
