Kind of a strange story. My mom (82 yrs) was gambling at a local indian casino last night. She puts in a $20 bill, and proceeds to start playing her normal .40 cents. I have trained her to always use a players card, so it is in. She switches machines a couple of times. After a couple of hours, she is still playing on that $20 (she stopped and ate). Suddenly someone at the machine next to her remarked that they had never seen so many points on a players card. What, my mom says?
The person recommended that she go cash out her points immediately.

Long story short, mom cashed out $1955.00 in POINTS. I have been playing at this casino for about 5 years, and barely have enough for a corn dog, so I know for certain that she cannot have gambled enough to even have $100. Now I am worried that they will come and get her for fraud.

She was so excited, she thinks she WON that money. I think a machine malfunctioned, giving her too many points. She said they were so nice to her, they even insisted on escorting her to her car.

Anyone ever had anything like this happen to them?

I told her to put it in the bank and leave it alone for a while in case they come knocking wanting it back.

Thanks! Hearing this from a couple people makes me feel a little better. She was sooo excited, it has been a long time since I have seen her that happy. Exciting things are so few and far between when you get to that age. She wants to take me out there when I visit this weekend and show me the machines she played, haha.

I thought maybe they were doing a special point promotion, with jackpots or something, but checking their website, I dont see any promos giving out more than $500.

I guess that is just one more reason to always always always use a players card.

    Points add up

How often does she go? I'm a Max Bet guy and had recently visited my local Hard Rock in Tampa a hand full of times.
On my last visit I had to go to the Players Club desk to take advantage of a promo and was told I had jumped up another
tier level and they gave me a new players card! She may very well have earned those points especially doing the slow grind.

She has been going once every 3 months or so, for about 5 years, and only spends $20-$40 at a time MAX. If she gets ahead even $10, she quits. She normally doesnt go any more often than I do, and I only had $10 on mine the last time I checked.

Maybe she plays more than your aware of? Maybe the twenty dollar slow grind is only when your around, once your out of sight out comes the Benjamin's and max bet madness. Never know.

I suppose it is a possibility, kind of like getting struck by lightning :). I know her pretty well, and know how frugal she is with her money. Like I said, if she is up even $10, she quits. I have occasionally found her better 2 coins per line, but never more, and usually only when she is bored and is just trying to run the last of her funds out so she can leave. Once in Vegas she put $10 in a dollar machine.....that was big money to her, haha.

Same thing happened to my mom at MGM Grand.

we went in and had to get new cards. i sat down and of course my card had 0 on it, like usualy. Hers had 5,000 point on it.

She has only played there once and that was just long enough to use the free play.

it was back to zero the next day.

i would not tell your mom to worry about it. casinos dont come after old ladies for extra point.

(thats what the skinwalkers are for.)

Are you sure she wasn't hitting the $4.00 button instead of the .40 button and dumping in $100s when you weren't looking?

You know it's not possible to earn that much money playing a penny machine even if it was $4 or even $10 in one day. I know your mother didn't do anything wrong. But, I would not spend that money too quick. Since you asked the question you already know that it is possible, not likely, for them to ask for the money back. I think because of her age she might get a pass, it's not good publicity.

The Indian casino in tampa will have promotions where they place points on your card if you use it on certain days. I missed both a 4000 and 6000 point promotion recently. They give me freeplay quite often and the machine loses it every other time I try to use it.

No worries, I think your safe. They can’t blame you for a machine malfunction any more than you should expect them to pay you.

Even if the casino wanted to get it back, it'd cost them more than that in legal fees. Have fun with the so called free money and don't worry about it at all.

Leaving it in the bank for six months shows good faith/good intent to not cheat the casino.

A story about taking the win and getting charged with fraud: A woman in my state sent in a tax return via TurboTax for ...

    ...wait for it...

    three million dollars.

A return that size automatically gets kicked out for a manual review at the Dept of Revenue. It was rubberstamped by three different people. TurboTax sent the woman a visa card for three million dollars.

Here's where this woman belongs on a tv show. Like The Soup.

It came to the attention of law enforcement when the woman reported her card stolen. It still had $2.9mil on it. Yeah, she reported the money she stole from the state as stolen.

You can't make this stuff up. Well, you don't have to because it wouldn't get noticed.

HAHAHAHA!!!!! If I hypothetically had a $2.9 Million gift card I assure you I would NOT lose it. I'd have it in a titanium briefcase, handcuffed to my wrist (on the days when I took it out of its own underground steel and concrete vault).
