What is that precious moment that it really hits you that you are in Las Vegas?

There may be just one moment or several moments or a place that always repeatedly reminds you no matter how many times you go back to it in one trip or on several trips..lol ramble

I usually don't arrive until the mid-late evening due to flying from a smaller airport in England.

For me, the first time I get that feeling is waking up the following morning. At home I wake up wishing I was in Vegas quite often (mostly because I have dreamt I am there), so to actually BE in Vegas when I wake up is awesome.

Also, the fist comped drink from a CW is a great feeling.

4 months till I can do that again.

For some, it's when you walk down the jetway in McCarran Airport and walk into the terminal and see slots... Not for me.

For others, it's when you get out of the taxi/shuttle bus/rental car/public bus and walk into your hotel... Not for me.

For others, it's as soon as you walk into your hotel room and set your bags down... Not for me.

For me, it's as soon as I am done with all of the above... and I sit down at a table or a slot or a VP machine and am served a drink and start playing. Then it dawns on me... I'm finally HERE!!!

Vegas is like a summer home to me.....

I know I am in Vegas when I look out of my hotel window and see the beautiful strip lights.

It feels really great to know that I am so close to home because I only have
to fly for approx. 45 minutes to get to Vegas.

For those of you on the right side of the plane, if you look out in the distance you'll be able to see the grand canyon.

    30-40 minutes later...

For those of you on the left side of the plane, the Hoover Dam is in view.

Lake Mead (and the continued astonishment of "Crap, the lake is even lower!") is my point where anticipation starts building. Landing on 25L pops my blood pressure up a notch.

Petting the sand bunny by where the D concourse splits up (by the Bose stand) makes me smile. And, yes, I pet him every time I come and go.

Finally, the downward facing model planes on the escalator that brings you down from D concourse to the tram are my true 'here' moment. I make noises of a landing plane and slot machine ding-ding-ding like a little boy and I'm happy.

When I walk out of the hotel elevator, and into the casino, about 7 a.m. There are people sitting at the bar drinking beer at 7 a.m.

    Only in Las Vegas!

    Loving all these moments! :D

Lucy, I will have to agree that looking out my window and seeing those lights is always my first indication that OMG, I AM HERE!

Entering the Imperial Palace deluxe room also always does it for me. I made it!

For me, it's the moment I step outside from baggage claim and feel the desert air.

The first night, when you are a little tired from a long travel day, have a drink or two in you, you are outside and your eyes are dry from the desert air and you see at a "Vegas" sight (Strip, FSE, etc).

Its that surreal feeling that I love.

PS - IMHO, Reno is a little better for that surreal feeling. Their casinos still have neon (instead of video boards everywhere) and driving somewhere is easier.

For me its a toss up bewteen,

    1) Coming down the escalator at the airport and seeing the horny toad in the lower area.

    and

    2) Having our first drink in the casino.

Anticipation begins on landing at the airport. BUT, nothing screams Vegas to me more than sitting at a BJ table, drink in hand, knowing that all I have to do for the immediate future is play. That's when I know I'm in Vegas.

Mostly, thats us or the moment we set foot in OUR airport to leave for the trip.

Another AhAh moment, when I realize I'm in Vegas, TIME has lost ALL Meaning. I can do pretty much anything I want at any time of the day or night. It doesnt matter if I nap at 5pm, I know when I wake up and head back out, I can pretty much do anything anywhere I want.

When we leave our hotel after putting our luggage away and step onto the side walk of the strip. I look up at the hotels and say to myself "Wow I can't believe we are here again"

When I drop down into the valley on the 15 and can see the South Point sign, and the strip in the background - I know my 6 hour drive (ok ok, 4.5-5 hours sometime :D ) is about done and Im ready to party!
