depends on the casino and depends on how sensitive you are. the good ones have great ventilation filtration systems and unless you're really sensitive you'll hardly notice unless there's a bunch of people smoking right next to you. i know that i don't notice it, but when i get back to the room my wife can smell the smoke on my clothes. not terrible or anything, but noticeable. overall i consider it a non-factor.

when you're playing at a table, you can ask them to make it non-smoking if you're playing alone or everyone else at the table agrees.

I'm an ex-smoker and I've become pretty sensitive to cigarette smoke now. I tend to not gamble on Fremont street because the casinos usually have lower ceilings and older ventilation systems. Mandalay Bay, Venetian, Caesar's, and Wynn seem to feel a little better than most.

I stopped smoking in May of this year -- this will be my first trip to Vegas as a non-smoker. I wonder how it will affect me. I'm not gonna lie -- I don't mind the smell of cigarette smoke and it definitely still makes me want to light up.

I can tell you that when I was smoking in Vegas, I actually felt like the odd man out -- especially on the strip, I always noticed that not as many people smoke anymore. I always tried to be very conscious of other people around me.

we are both non smokers and we really find fremont or the strip casinos to be not too bad at all.

It seems that in the past few years a lot less people smoke so it is not difficult to avoid the smokers if it bothers you with the size of the casinos.

South Point used to have a non-smoking section and I think Palazzo has one.

Yes, Palazzo has non-smoking sections for some of their slot machines.

I've also see people smoking in those areas too...many don't realize it's a non-smoking section.

When Aria was about to open, it was a bragging point that they were proud of their initiatives to provide an environment where smoking was permitted on casino floors but that it wouldn't be bothersome to non-smokers. They had the dealers and other employees in mind as much as guests. Personally, I've never visited Aria, but am wondering if anybody can speak to this.

I find more problems with cigar smokers than anything. The arrogance of most guys who smoke cigars is based in pure insensitivity and lack of concern for those who must be within the space around them. I have always wondered what a cigar smoker would do if someone walked right up to them and turned their back to them and let out a huge nasty smelling fart right in their face. It should not be considered appropriate to smoke a cigar in any public space regardless of the cigarette smoking policy/law in effect there. I respect a person's right to smoke whatever they desire within their own home or in an outdoor setting where the offending smoke and odor doesn't affect others. I do not respect those who inflict their habit's health risks and impolite odors on unsuspecting, undeserving persons who must encounter their space.

I find your statement quite hypocritical. Las Vegas is and always has been a place for smokers. Casinos are SMOKING areas. You are the one that comes in a smoking area and is offended by someone actually doing something that is not only allowed in there but promoted by the sale of cigars. I am a cigar smoker that is very careful not to offend. My wife is a non smoker who does not like them either so I have been trained of course. I find your fart statement out of line Martin. Like I said you are entering an area where I am doing nothing wrong and well within my right.

Your "areas" have been dramatically reduced and taken away from you over the years. The good old days when smoking was not prohibitted anywhere in public must have been hard to compromise for you smokers. I'm sure you have more incentive to respect people surrounding you in casinos, etc since your wife is not a fan. Las Vegas and casinos in most areas are by large percentages, smoking friendly. I am not aware of all of the laws in various states. But, rarely can you smoke your cigar or cigarette in a restaurant or museum, or movie theatre, etc. There is a reason for this. The offending nature of smoking along with the second hand smoke issue has forced these venues to prohibit smoking. Casinos are one of the very few bastions of entertainment where the nature of the establishment has a "lobby" of people for whom smoking, drinking and gambling just seem to not be able to be completely divorced. This is fine with me. But, there are probably more non-smokers in reality who make up casino patrons who are forced to endure the "rights" of the fewer smokers and we normally do so without much protest. The cigar industry is not unlike others. There are good and bad everywhere. Expensive cigars have their place as do cigarettes and cheap cigars. If an equal area was designed for gamblers who smoke vs equal areas for non-smokers, there would be no problem. But. that just doesn't exist. So, in order to take advantage of an entire casino, I/we are forced to co-mingle with smokers to enjoy the benefits that a casino provides. I may not like it and you may not like me complaining about it. But, if I am offended by your actions, you may just be offended by mine and possibly the point will be taken. Don't be surprised if someday a mass protest is organized to demonstrate to smokers just how actions by non-smokers can be equally as offensive to you. Maybe a "fart-in"! Maybe an onion or garlic eating initiative could be organized. Maybe a sneezing campaign where health is affected would get attention. Who knows? Please consider our rights too.

I enjoy a good cigar at the VP bar in Harrahs

But,I always ask the people sitting next to me if they mind the smoke before I light up. Plus I always blow the smoke upwards into the ventillation system which is pretty good at the Xibition Bar.
Actually cigarette smoke bothers me more than cigar smoke as far as the health issue goes,I smoke one cigar every three days or so .
Oh and before you gorge yourselves on baked beans, hard boiled eggs and turkey,I grew up near the Bayway area of Central Jersey so all the farts you can muster wont bother me too much LOL.

If you stick to newer casinos on the strip, you'll be fine. They are spacious with state of the art ventillation, so you won't notice much smoke unless someone is dangling their cigarette near your face.

The older places and downtown joints will be a lot smokier.

The OP didn't ask for a debate about smoking. Please keep this thread on topic.

It's definitely more noticable downtown. Personally I smoke cigars, but I won't ever smoke at a table game. I'll smoke at a VP bartop if other smokers are around. Mostly I notice other cigar smokers being equally as considerate, but I imagine a non-smoker would find it noticable, maybe even inconsiderate, most places because a casino is probably the only public indoor place to light up.

I am a former smoker and although the smell doesn't bug me, I do notice it alot more than I used to. The M IMO is the nicest smelling of the casinos I have been in, you don't notice it at all. The worst I have been in was the Fremont downtown. But like I said, it doesn't bug me, just notice it more now.

Do you play poker? Pokers rooms are almost all non-smoking now.

To the OP. I don't usually notice the smoke too much while on the casino floor. I think it tends to be worse among the slots than at the tables. There are non-smoking areas but they are not usually on separate ventilation or in totally separate areas so you still get some smoke blowing in from the rest of the floor. Also these areas are not always well marked. I have on a couple of occasions found myself with a cigar in hand in a "non smoking" area not because I am insensitive or ignoring the rules but purely by accident.

As someone who runs everyday, my lungs are sensitive to smoke and I will begin to cough because of it. I get a burning sensation and a shortness of breath. I have a lousy seens of smell and never smell smoke unless it is someone next to me. So when I begin coughing, I can usually find a smoker near by. I will get up and leave a table when I encounter it. I have had several pit supervisors ask me if something was wrong or happened at my table when I move over to a new one. I have even been offered to open up a new table and they would sign it for no smoking. I will normally pass on that because I don't like to go one on one with the dealer. I prefer a few players, if possible. It's like betting the "don't" in craps. You keep to yourself and avoid making a big seen over it.
