    My Trip Report

If weather is fine, I'll be going to AC tomorrow. Last time there, wasnt too fun. 1/2hr to get comped, too many smokers, too many beggars, not much to eat.
So, I am giving it another chance. I have been to AC many times, go back because nothing else to do, and strangely, I get action. It aint as hot as Vegas now, I havent been to Revel yet. And have been to the Marina area just once.

    If you don't like the smoke/smokers, I believe Revel is 100% smoke-free.

I haven't been to AC in years. I heard a few years ago they were passing an ordinance to go smoke free. Is that the case? Or is it like most casinos where the majority has smoke allowed, but they have smoke free sections?

They did go smoke-free briefly, but play dropped off so severely that they got them to change it back - but it's the opposite, where now the majority of the casino is smoke-free, but they have smoking sections [I believe the ratio is now 75% non-smoking/25% smoking, by law] - Revel is the first casino in town to voluntarily go 100% smoke-free.

Well, it went much better this time than last. Comped real fast, good weather, smooth fast drive to AC from NYC.

The boardwalk has improved alot. Lots of young people seating outside eating and drinking. Many more places to eat, lots of shops, the casinos were not full of smoke. Impressed with what has been done in AC lately.

Last time I was unable to cash out my $25 bus bonus; this time I did! Well, I guess someone got the message the peoples wants their $ back instead of silly TR credits. This TR business in nonesense, close to scam actually.

I'm glad it worked for you.
I'm off tomorrow for a few days for my first trip in a decade or so.
I'm at Harrah's, my first time in the Marina section.
The weather is going to be colder, but the rain does not look too bad.

I'm there to see if the limit poker is any good and if I can locate some playable VP. And also to see if I can find a frugal way around the prices for food.
    Poker rooms are smoke free.
If nothing else works, I'll just swim in the heated pool.

    Frugal food at Harrahs

To me the best deal is Sack O Subs in the food court across from the pool.
Not if you want a sit down dinner ,but it's as cheap as it gets in Harrahs.
I get a breakfast sub there for $6.99 thats so big I dont eat till supper. I'm not crazy about Bills,or Sammy D's ,we usually drive over to Angelo's if we want a big meal.

Dewey, I'm not sure if you're driving or not, but here's a link to the public transportation system in AC, its called a Jitney http://jitneyac.com/ the fare is $2.25 but seniors can ride for $.75, but you need to buy tickets in advance.

For what it's worth, the ocean water temp is 70 degrees, but the air temp won't be favorable. But, if it's sunny, nothing better than being on the beach with a book or the newspaper and a few cold ones. If it were a tad warmer, bodysurfing in the waves would be in order.

We were at the Tropicana a few Fridays ago, the poker room looked lively, can't speak about it being smoke free or not. We played a little at the Revel, great ocean views and smoke free. Also walked through the Atlantic Club, and it seemed pretty smokey. This is a low roller's local casino and they are pretty liberal with mid-week room comps. They are touting a $12.99 buffet as well. We had a nice dinner at the Knife and Fork Inn, it is celebrating it's 100 year anniversary.

Wish you luck and hope you can pull down a few pots, look forward to a trip report.

I had not heard of 75 cent rides. Where do you buy tickets in advance?

Atlantic Club seems like a buffet I'd enjoy. thanks

I haven't been to the Atlantic Club buffet, but I can second jerseyguy's recommendation for Angelo's, good food, decent prices, waiters with a bit of attitude, though. I've had Sack O' Subs in Ocean City, you can't go wrong here, but the holy grail for subs is the White House, the White House Special half sub is almost enough for lunch and dinner.

A jolly middle-aged Italian gentleman who was waiting for 1hr on line with me at the PA was staying at Harrah's 1 night. However, he had to get off at Caesar's and take the Jitney out there.
Very few PA buses go to the Marina area, hope you have a car.

After a bus ride from Port Auth.

And let me guess, a subway jaunt to get there, treat yourself, spend the $13 or so on a cab to Harrahs . Caesars,I would walk to if I just had a bag I could sling over my shoulder.

What I did worked just great.
    I brought my bike.
Atlantic Club is offering free parking if we show our player's card and they have some outside lots, so dropping the bike off the back of the van and using it along the boardwalk was a great way to see those areas in the daylight. During October the hours were 7-12 in the morning and 4-7 in the afternoon, and they did not seem too ridgidly enforced on weekdays as I was ridiing one day t 3:30 and no one bothered me about it.
The Atlantic Club also has a cheap Friday-Sunday buffet. Cheap for AC is $14 with tax. I got it on Wednesday as well because the other cafe was closed and they opened the buffet.
I did not ride from Harrah's to the Golden Nugget or Borgata, but I thought that was probably doable. In fact, I could see that in spite of the highway clusters I could have walked to the Golden Nugget.

At Harrah's they charged me $5 and stamped my little folding cardboard hotel room key holder. That let me have no more charges for the rest of my stay. The first day I also got a complimentary pass to park at another Harrah's property, but I never used it.

The Atlantic Club had a promotion. Play 30 minutes and get $5 to $1000 freeplay. Even penny machines at a nickle a pull counted in the time figures. I ended up $16 ahead, hitting on the freeplay in a two quarter double diamond machine.

Jitney tickets were just 75 cents but 10 was the minimum and I did not think I would use them. As it worked out, I did not use the jitney or the shuttle at all. The poker at Harrah's seemed as good as on the boardwalk, but the place was empty of tourists so the competition was fairly stiff. Friendly guys however.
Harrah's offered 9/6 JOB and 9/6 DDB so I was content to do most of my gambling there.
The room had a refrigerator and a coffee maker so the cooler full of food worked very well for most of my meals.

Details and some photos are here

Thanks for all your advice. it was helpful.
