Would like to know different peoples experiences and stories of what you once did in Vegas but can no longer do, for example, I was speaking with the wife the other night (We have an upcoming trip in a few months) and she was saying how she was so glad she did the patting of the lion cubs at the MGM on one of our previous trips. Once in a lifetime experience was her words and she feels quite sad that now the lions are gone and that space has been filled by yet 'another' bar/club. Sadly we are too young to experience the Vegas of old with the rat pack etc but id imagine some folks on her have some great stories to tell. Im not an Elvis fan but id imagine for some seeing Elvis perform live in Vegas would be one of the highlights of their life, stories like this we would love to hear.....

Don't have time for a "story" right now, but here's some things off the top of my head that are gone & likely never doable again:

Standing outside Caesars Palace & basking in its glorious blue glow at night. Or enjoying the campy fun of a night at the [original] Bacchanal restaurant.

Staying & playing at the Desert Inn - Wynn's standing on its former site is proof positive that bigger doesn't always mean better.

Dining at Alex at the Wynn or Restaurant Charlie at Palazzo - two of [if not] the best restaurants to open and [sadly, prematurely] close in the last decade or so.

Seeing Siegfried & Roy's show - again, campy, but their show was a quintessentially Vegas experience.

Driving or walking down Freemont street, back before they covered it with the "experience".

Being able to visit the Liberace museum. [wow, they really have gotten rid of most of the campy-fun stuff, havent they?]

I would generally say: walking down the Strip and seeing things that, who knows, may no longer be there in a few years. I still remember my first trip to the Strip seeing the old Boardwalk hotel, as well as the flashing neon running up the spine of Tropicana, the Aladdin, and others. I've only been going to Vegas for about a decade. Can't believe how much it has changed just in that period of time

I used to like taking a break from the tables at the Stardust and walk over to the Westward Ho and getting a 99 cent margarita.

The other goofball thing I miss is playing at the Tropicana while that dumb Air Play show was going on. (For those who have never seen it, it involved two muscle bound guys flying over the casino on some sort of harness.) It was the strangest thing I've seen. We called it Ass-Play and it never failed to crack us up.

    Ah! The Memories

Dining at the Regency Room in the Sands. That place just had "Rat Pack" and Old Vegas written all over it. A really classy, old school joint where they didn't rob you for a great meal.

Dancing on Cleopatra's Barge when the likes of Tito Fuentes was the band.

Seeing Wayne Newton at Caesar's when he still had his voice and really was Mr. Las Vegas.

The Dunes! Ah! The Dunes. Probably the most mobbed up place in Vegas. It was an experience to be playing or eating there with all the guys in pin stripe suits and crooked noses asking "Are you comfortable, are they treating you right?".

The Desert Inn. Just a great, great place.

As you may have guessed I've been going to Vegas for a long, long time now.

Have walked from Mandalay Bay to Stratosphere , but can only make it to Monte Carlo now.

    Dinner shows.

Benny Binion's Natural. (Breakfast in the downstairs coffee shop.)

Keno - the kind where they marked your ticket with a brush and ink and the caller called the balls as they were selected.

seems that people miss the dingy old places.

knowing this i am sure that most everyone here will be staying at riviera or circus circus next trip to recapture that vibe.

Count me as another that misses the Lions at MGM. I'm sure it seem silly to most but that one act lowered my opinion of the MGM significantly. I really don't like playing there but it was still our choice of primary hotel for years. I feel kinda homeless now adays.

LOL, I also miss the giant hole in the ground that is now City Center. I think our first Vegas trip as a couple was right after or right before they leveled it so we really enjoyed seeing the progress each time we went to Vegas.

Casino-hopping from the Hacienda to the Sahara and back...up one side and down the other. Full day of walking.

It's hard to get from one hotel to the next now with the crowded sidewalks and all the card-slappers and 'entertainment'. Nope.

Sadly, I don't foresee ever doing another even half-Strip walking day.

Honestly, I don't even stay on the Strip anymore.

Miss the Stardust. It was the first resort type fo hotel we ever stayed in, had a 9ft deep pool and Ralphs Diner was a great meal.

Miss walking basically from Circus Circus all the way up the strip to MGM and then back, yes you can do that but I really feel the strip now stops at Encore.

Westward Ho, it was tacky but I liked the place

Desert Inn, first time I visited a spa in Vegas, I was underage but they did not check my ID, I thought it was the weirdest thing that people ran around nude.

Boardwalk, not a class joint but some cheap games, first hotel I every played craps or Blackjack in.

Someday, I hope to say I miss the porn card slappers along The Strip as well as the costumed characters who have no reedeming value at all.

I like the porn guys, they have been doing that since my first trip in the 80s, as for the guys in costume, get rid of them.

My first trip to Vegas when I was like 11 or 12 we went to the MGM theme park! That is no longer there :( not that I would do it if it was haha. Crazy how much things have changed.

I also thought the thread would be what can't you personally do anymore. For me, I'm about 95% done with nightclubs. SO unpleasant.
