    First post, please be gentle:

Me: Visit LV 4-5 times per year. Platinum mLife. Typically average Table Games: $80/hand 4hours per day (BJ 2&6 deck, Craps) & $1 Video Poker 3hrs/day. Last year approximately 400,000 tier credits. Typically stay at NYNY, Monte Carlo, Mirage occasionally Mandalay & Beau Rivage. Last trip earned approximatley $300+ in EC. Have recently begun a relationship with a host for he first time.

    The request:
I recently e-mailed this new host at one of the above mentioned properties regarding my upcoming birthday celebration. I requested
    1) a comped room for myself.
    2) A comped room for a rated player friend of mine with a less frequent history but a typically better rating than myself and
    3) a friends and family room rate for a unrated friend.

In addition also requested the opportunity to BUY four tickets to one of the upcoming Jimmy Buffett shows.

    The response:
    1) my room - booked - "no problem"
    2) my friends room - "he doesn't have an offer but I going to comp it anyway"
    3) friends and family room rate - booked
    4) Jimmy Buffett tickets- "we are all sold out, I suggest you try TicketMaster"

    My response:
"Thanks for booking all of the rooms. Thanks for letting me know about the concert. I have bought the four tickets via TicketMaster."

    The problem:

Today on the mLife website my offers included: 2 Complimentary Tickets to Jimmy Buffett and three free nights.

"SOLD OUT" is the news I got. I am quite annoyed! At a minimum, this, in my opinion, makes the host look VERY bad.

    The solution:
I am looking for the board's very insiteful and wise council as to how to handle this situation with this host or am I out of line by being annoyed.

All constructive and otherwise humorous comments appreciated.

BTW - To all: I have very much appreciated this board for its humor and insight about the world of casino comps. Thanks! :nworthy:

I would just call the host back and mention the offer and see if they can switch your room to be covered by that offer so you get the 2 free tickets. It seems possible to me that they had an inventory of tickets that they dedicated to put out that offer so when the host looked in the system it showed they did not have any left to be set aside for discretionary comps. So it could just be a mistake in communication.

I realize if they change the offer you end up with 2 extra tickets - but you could go to stubhub and sell 2 if you don't have anyone else who can use them.

I'm not sure at how things work at the Platinum level, but as I understand it, the casino reserves a certain block of tickets for players that are first offered to the highest level of Noir players, and then progressively lower levels of players if the higher tier ones don't bite.

It's possible (though I'm not sure how likely) that the host didn't have any tickets that he could assign at your level at the time you asked, but since then more tickets have been made available for players of your tier.

In any case, I'd contact him again and ask if you can get the tickets - it can't hurt.

At this point he already bought 4 tickets...it's not that he wants the free tickets now, he wanted them before. Now that he bought the tickets he is upset/frustrated that he spent the money on the purchased tickets.

Unless I have completely missed the point.

I'd gently call the host out. Tell him what happened and that you paid for the tickets but now they are offered for free. Give him the chance to own the mistake and comp you something (F&B) of equal value to the two tickets.

There's no way your host did this on purpose. Headliner shows are difficult for a host -- I found this out on my last trip. My host does everything he can for me but couldn't get me tickets to Neil Diamond that were any better than what I could get for myself.

Though the host MIGHT have missed something, there is a better chance they were not available at the time.

As said, they get a block of tickets. They offer them to higher level first, then the next level, then the next, etc. It is a very difficult process because they want to entice their biggest players to come in, but how long do they wait for them to respond?

(and it is not Noir, Plat, etc - but instead based on theo)

Also, you should realize the tickets could already be gone. Maybe even were already gone when you talked to host. All in the timing.

Yeah, I think he could have communicated better, but I don't think he was really screwing you.

The ticketmaster tickets he probably could not have set up for you. Him being involved probably makes your odds worse, as he'd have to go back and forth with you about price/seat choice.

The tickets that ended up comps would be in a special section, and may not have been available at the time. Even if they were, they would be for 2 seats comped. So he can't just sell you two seats beside those. So when you offered to pay anyway, does he try to offer you a half comp and tell you to get the others from ticketmaster for another section?

Sold out probably was the wrong choice of words, but other than that I don't think you made out that bad. You wanted to buy 4 tickets and you did.

    Maybe some miscommunication.....?
    definitely "timing" was involved --
    .
You can casually mention when you check-in w/
the host -- that you bought 4 tickets --
The host may do something more for you ?
    .
Sell off the extra tickets -- but compare the
seating on the comp tickets vs. yours ---
and sit in the better seats.
    .
If the show is sold out --- somebody might be
scrounging around for some tickets at showtime.
Or as suggested previously - sell on Stubhub.
    .
As stated earlier.......you made out fairly well, anyway.
    .
    Good Luck
and give us a follow up post of what happens !

If you end up rebooking and getting two extra tickets and it's for the second show (Sat Oct 27) then send me a pm. I'm in town then celebrating my own birthday and might be a buyer if the price is right. ;)

Based on his information at that exact time, saying "Sold Out" could easily been 100% accurate.

They have a block of tickets set aside for events. Some good ones, some not so good. You have very little influence over what you get.

Good info here. The only thing I'd add...don't be annoyed, the host isn't in a position to sell any of their ticket block to you. Rather than explain that, they probably just said "sold out, use ticketmaster." Your mileage may vary on getting your offer changed to include the two free tickets you saw on mLife, but its worth a shot. The host won't see it as you calling them out on it.

I agree with most of the posters. Timing is everything, and more than likely the host really did not have tickets at that time. Call back and see if you can still get them and sell the extra.

when you first offered to buy tickets, that would be a retail purchase and they already were and still are sold out. tickets via offers are held back in a separate block and those are not for sale. there's 2 different blocks of tickets. if you qualify for some from the comp block, those are always available.

If they still have some. Even those will eventually run out. Actually, as I understand it, as they get closer to the date, a few will be held back for HIGH rollers just in case some muckety muck comes asking for tickets late. But, only a few and only for HIGH rollers.

there are always comp tickets available. how big a CL it requires to get them is what changes depending on the time and popularity of the show.
