Just got an offer for tickets to NRF in december, 3 free nights, and freeplay.
Never did the NRF, heard it is a wild time. thinking of going last two days and staying for weekend.

    Opinions?

Early December is a slow time in Las Vegas.

But, the NFR make it interesting. There are so many cowboys in town and they are so sweet and respectful. I love going that time of the year and I will this year too. I love the rodeo and and everything about it. I can't imagine anything 'wild' about it but I might be out of the loop. Just go and enjoy it. It is a fantastic time to be in Las Vegas.

Yes, you can have a wild and crazy time! But don't go if cowboy hats, tight jeans on cowgirls, and country music bothers you because that's almost all you will see. I personally love it but I'm from Texas, and we ALL have ranches, cattle, and horses don't-cha-know!:cowboy::wave2:

Most regular shows in Vegas are dark in December. Instead, there will be a lot of Country-western acts in town. Even if you don't plan to see a show, Vegas is still Vegas and you should still have fun!

It can get very busy during the NFR. Like Brensan said, there's a lot of tight jeans on cowgirls. There must be tight jeans on cowboys too it's just that I've never noticed that.

The casinos love that time of year because the cowboys drink and gamble a lot.

Hmm... I don't know about the "wild" part...

Largely the crowd is going to be in its mid 30s to early 50s and its going to be made up of cowboys and wanna-be cowboys.

And on top of that everything is "cowboy", so almost everybody in the casino, including staff, will be wearing jeans, cowboy hats and other cowboy appropriate attire.

This is also the one time of the year I think Las Vegas' sexiness factor drops like a rock from things like how at most casinos the cocktail waitresses aren't wearing their traditional uniforms but will instead be wearing jeans with a white t-shirt and a flannel shirt over top and even the go-go dancers in the different pleasure pits up and down The Strip will be mostly wearing shorts with the shirt and flannel shirt combo and the majority of the female patrons will be dressed down as well.

In the casinos the majority of the music that gets piped in is the cowboy/pop crossover stuff, IE: Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, Leanne Rimes, etc - so when people say its "country music" its generally not going to be that twangy stuff from the 60s and 70s but more like country pop from the 2000s. At the bars you will get a bit more country from the 80s and 90s mixed in.

Most of the people that are there are going to be there for the rodeo so that means that pretty much during the day you can expect Las Vegas to be quiet overall - there'll still be people in the casinos, but most of the people that are there for the rodeo will be at the rodeo.

And then at night it will get busy in the casinos and the impact is pretty much everywhere from table games to slots to video poker, but probably mostly to the table games. If you play poker the poker rooms get pretty busy at most places and the games are generally pretty good too.

For entertainment if you want to see any of the big name country performers, including some of the more recent acts to big names from back 20-30 years ago, most of them are playing somewhere in Las Vegas sometime during the week that the rodeo is on. Fremont Street will usually have free live country performances on their stages and these are usually some name acts as well.

    .

I love Texans. I wish there were more here in NYC. I love how they called me ma'am a just few years ago when I was still in my 20s. I never found anything rowdy about cowboys. I have never met such respectful peeps.

I loved when I went to the rodeo about three years ago and the cowboys had pink lassos in some events in support of breast cancer and MANY of the cowboys wore pink ribbons with the saying Man Enough to Wear Pink.

I can't imagine cowboys being rowdy. But, you can have a good time. A lot of county music acts come to Vegas during this time of the year and they often have free concerts on Fremont Street with well known singers/bands. It is such a fun time to be in Las Vegas if you like country music and everything cowboys. Be sure to go to Cowboy Christmas at the Convention Center where there are tons of exhibits.

Does anyone know the exact dates it will be this year? We're thinking of trying to squeeze in a fourth trip this year, hopefully in one of the first two or three weeks in December - and we hate crowds, be they cowboys or COMDEX conventioneers - so for me, I just want to know when it's going to be so I'll know what week to definitely not pick LOL

Dec 5-16 for the events, but I'd tack on a day or two before and after then for crowd impact.

    DonD,

Yep, the cowboys, have tight jeans on too!!! Trust me. Its probably why I enjoy country concerts so much.

We will be there the day 'after' it all ends, hoping I get to see some of them at the airport!

I was there for this two years ago. I'm not a cowboy, wannabe cowboy, or even anyone who has met cowboys. I'm from the north east originally. And I had a good time. The craps tables were a lot of fun with a bunch of guys just looking to have a good time.

Overall I found things to be a bit quieter than other times of the year.

My birthday falls during NFR, so I love being in Vegas during that time (I'll be there this year too!).

I'm a little biased about rodeo life since I'm in Wyoming, but I do think it's one of the best times of the year to be in Vegas.

Not too much of a crowd, but they seem generally nicer than the normal mix of tourists.

The only bad thing I've noticed is that it's pretty hard to get a taxi in the evening before the rodeo. Everyone is trying to head to the Thomas & Mack at the same time and the taxi lines are long.

Check out Cowboy Christmas at the convention center. Miles of vendors selling all sorts of things. You can honestly spend days there shopping if you'd like.
