I received an offer for 3 nights complimentary at MB. I decided it to book it and go. I will be leaving in 3 weeks to play baccarat and bet football. I plan to buy-in for $1200 and play $100 per hand in baccarat. The game is mini or midi baccarat depending on the table, but I plan to play 40 hands per hour. I have 2 buy-ins for 2 days.

I plan to bet $200 per game in football, 5 games total. Should I give the bookie my MLife card when I place my bets?

Do you think I should get a casino host so I can get more things comped or do you think is it not worth the time? I plan to charge everything to my MLife card so I can use my express comps to pay part of the bill

MGM does not comp you for sports bets (only horses) so no need to give them your mlife card.

Earlier this year my host at MB told me they want 4 hours a day at $200 per hand for a free room. At $100 a hand, you would need to play eight hours per day. And if you're playing bac at a rate of 40 hands per hour, you really need to play closer to 12 hours or more per day. Not sure if a $1200 buy in will get you that far each day, but if it does, ask to speak with a host at the end of the trip and see if they can help you. If you're in the high limit room, just ask a game supervisor to get you a host. Otherwise, if you go to the VIP checkin lounge, ask for a host there and they will call one down for you.

    Good luck!

Or alternatively, you could stay at MB this trip and play at a property where they value black action much more such as NYNY, Monte Carlo, or Luxor.

I've stayed at NYNY and got treated like a king just for betting $100-$500 a hand in Bac.

Others have said on here that Monte Carlo expects about $100 avg bet for 4 hours a day for comped rooms/host's attention.

you're really underfunded at $2400 total betting $100 per hand. you may bust out after only a few hours. you'll need to pace yourself and hope to hit well early in order to play for hours.

I had the same thought when I mentioned above that I wasn't sure the bankroll would get him that far.

Instead of $100 per hand, you could bet $50 per hand at mini-bac, play longer, and probably earn enough express comps to cover your basic food for the trip.

Or as other posters have stated, your level of play will get more notice at other casinos. Add Luxor to the mix. It's a short walk next door through the Mandalay Place shops, and you are more likely to generate some host attention for future visits at $100 oer hand there

Cool. Thanks everyone for your help. I usually play at Aria, but I plan to play at MB this trip.

Just wondering, how many units do you guys buy in when your play baccarat or other table games? Do you think I should buy in for more than 12 units per session? My goal is to get up 3-5 units and chill for bit then repeat. I try to not play over 5 hour sessions without a break.

At Bac, I normally buy in for 15 units to start. But my bankroll is much, much larger, so I will sometimes play sessions wth up to 100 units. If 24 units is your non-sports gambling bankroll, I personally would play a smaller game so that I would have more units.

Absolutely nothing wrong with playing short sessions trying to win 3 to 5 units (I usually play somewhere between 30 minutes and two hours per session), but if that is your standard goal, don't play for comps. You can get up 3 to 5 units in just a couple minutes at bac (and clearly not play long enough to generate any comps). And that's cool, because those 3 to 5 units should cover a standard hotel room and some food (no need for comps if you get some quick hits). And if you earn any express comps for the short play, that's a great bonus!

There's a good thread started a couple days ago about chasing comps. Play how you're comfortable playing, and if you get any comps, fantastic. But it sounds like your length of play is going to be short (either because you hit your goal or because of bankroll per session) and probably is not wirth seeking out a host to help you with any comps beyond EC.

Spend your time kicking back and enjoying your sports bets! I do that plenty when I am there!

12 units per session isn't that low, it's that you only have a bankroll for 2 sessions over 2 days. you normally want at least 2-3 sessions per day if you plan on playing an extended period of time.

you're not going to get rated very well and generate much theo if you hit and run after getting up 3-5 units. if you're hitting pretty well that can happen in 10 minutes and then you leave and hardly get rated. on the flip side, if you're not hitting well, you can drain those 12 units in 30 minutes and be done for the day and still hardly get rated. i wouldn't worry about comps and just play how you're going to play and see at the end if anything is possible.

I was at MB a few weeks ago and played mostly bac with a little poker/craps thrown in. I was rated $250/hand for the entire trip (according to yhe mlife desk) and had my room (i was booked under an offer; comped Friday $50 saturday) comped along with the $65 room charge. I spoke with Mlife before leaving and was redirected to a host who took care of it. Over the 3 days of play I racked up about $400 in EC.

I assume you aren't just flat betting. I would think a rating of $125 or so would get you enough EC to cover your room.

I also agree with staying at MC or Luxor on a $1200 a day budget. You'll get more bang for your buck. Keep in mind that Luxor only has 1 minibac table on the main floor and it's not always open. They have no bac tables in their high limit room...so no midibac at all.

That is not true. I just came back from a Vegas trip and they will open up their one midi-Bac table in the high limit room if you ask (and I assume if your play warrants it).

Really? Well way to go Mlife person who told me there isn't a baccarat table in their high limit area. I should have I known better than to trust him. We'll that's good to know. I've only been in Luxor once and walked past the high limit but there wasn't a soul in there so I didn't even bother to see what was in there. Any idea what time that/days that table is normally open and at what limits? I'm a $250 a hand player and I doubt they would open it up just for me.

The high limit room itself (tables, not slots) is open 8pm until 12-2am or so on weekdays, 8pm-2am on slow weekends, and 12pm Friday around the clock till 2am Monday on busy weekends.

I've never seen anyone playing baccarat there. Then again, I hardly ever see anyone else playing anything there.

That's about what I thought it would be. I have not booked all the nights I'll need for our trip in a few weeks. I was thinking Sunset Station or GVR but maybe I'll give Luxor a shot. Thanks for the info.

If you happen to be there between around 8pm-2am they would absolutely open for you. I got there around 2am and the shift manager came out and said grave shift didn't have enough staff but if I had called ahead, they would open it.

Like Llew said, hardly ever anyone in there so they highly value any black action. If you give them advanced notice no problem with opening the table.

For what it's worth, NYNY was much more accommodating. Even turning the Mini table on the main floor into a Midi table for me.

I like NYNY and played there a good bit last trip however I don't think I can park my truck at NYNY where as I can at Mandalay Bay in their convention center parking lot and I can also park it at Luxor/Excalibur in their lots in the back of their properties that butts up to I-15. I've seen no such parking at NYNY.

Update - I saw a couple people playing Baccarat in the Luxor HL room this past week. Apparently, they opened the table because the players had called ahead.

I usually go in with 20-40 units, but I play a fairly aggressive streak-only betting strategy that requires a deep bankroll in case you need to outlast a choppy shoe.

I would think though, that I would never feel comfortable playing with less than 15-20 units, especially if i expected my sessions to last 4 hours or more just on that bankroll. If you're looking for comps & expecting your bankroll to carry you for that length of play, in the event of a worst case scenario run of bad luck at any point during those 4 hours, frankly I would think only 12 units a day is underfunded - it's a lot easier to start off on the wrong foot or hit a stretch of bad luck and see your bankroll get wiped out quick than that 1% HA would you to believe.
