At my local casino, I found these 2 video poker machines.

USA Poker pays 1 credit for 2 pair but 8 for straight, flush, or full house.

JoB pays 2 credits for 2 pair but 4 for straight, 6 for flush, and 8 for full house.

All other pay lines are the same.

Which game is the better play? Should the strategy for play be essentially the same on either machine?

They also have other JoB machines with 5 for a flush, but I found a few that pay 6 for a flush.

Standard 8-6 JOB (the game you listed) pays 98.4%, which isn't horrible. 8-5, which is common and on a lot of bartops pays 97.3% and should mostly be avoided.

I've never heard of that other game. I could do the math for you if you told me the entire pay table. It would be interesting to figure out the correct way to play it -- you'd need to obviously give straights and flushes more play than you do in a standard game since they pay way high.

Assuming your paytable is 1-1-3-8-8-8-30-200-800, which is the only machine I can find resembling what you're talking about, the game would pay about 98.5%, so just slightly better than 8-6 JOB but not enough to worry about. Especially because I think it would be very hard to play without errors based on the straight and flush payouts.

Bob Dancer puts out these numbers assuming as you said, everything above a full house remains the same.

Deleted 2nd table so there is no confusion.

Joe, the OP states that 2 pair pays 2 on the JoB game. It looks like that is cutting out roughly 13% of the return! It's looking more like a standard 98.4% like mike said, making the JoB the better choice.

Oops, my error  forgot to change it back to 2. Then it becomes standard 8/6 JOB. I deleted 2nd table with error to avoid confusion.

    All American?

You can compare them at VPFree.

The USA Poker game is also known as All-American, and is documented here:

Jacks or Better variants are documented here:
    http://www.vpfree2.com/video-poker/pay-table/jacks-or-better

A much different strategy would be required for All-American/USA.
