We stayed at Southpoint for the first time several weeks ago. We throughly enjoyed Southpoint and would definitely go again. The VP pay tables were much better than on the strip and there was VP everywhere! Good selection of places to eat also. I took heed of another post and brought tape for the curtain in our room. The curtain doesn't open in the middle and draw from both sides. It closes on the right and doesn't close completely. I had a big roll of masking tape and tape the curtain to the wall every night. It was pitch dark, and thank you poster for the tip. The bill breeaking machines were plentyful and spit out $$ twice as fast as the Flamingo. After the 4 nights at Southpoint we moved to the Flamingo 3 nights. The only highlight at the Flamingo was my wife getting a Royal on a VP machine for $1000. Otherwise the money went fast. We left Southpoint ahead and that was paying cash for all our meals. I will stay there again and be glad I did.

We'll be doing a day trip there in October to check it out. JJ, if you took a cab to the Flamingo, do you recall how much it was?

Good to hear about the VP everywhere. I may have a tough time getting my husband to leave. Did you happen to check out the BJ tables? Any limits or pay schedules to report? Thanks JJ.

We've stayed at Southpoint a couple times...the only drawback is its distance from anything else, but the place itself is fantastic.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it! It is our favorite property now. Slot money lasts so much longer there than any place on the strip. We rent a car so location is not an issue. We now split our stay with half on the strip and the second half at SP. Very close to the Car Rental Center to drop off the car and we know the second half of our trip will have better gambling than the first. With a car we always spend a few hours at the South Outlets, stop into Silverton and M for a change of pace also. Hubby loves the Bass Pro Shop at Silverton and I like the aquarium. M has a great buffet. SP has good liquor prices in their gift shop.

Gambler I believe the cab fare was around $20 from Southpoint to the Flamingo. We don't play any table games but all the tables seemed real busy.

    Funny story

Over the past 4 years we have had signs made at one of the booths outside of Harrah's for our 3 new granddaughters. They say for example "Princess Alivia's Room". After we moved to the Flamingo on Monday the next morning I walked towards Harrah's to find the shop and get a new sign made for our newest granddaughter Briea . I got to the shop area and it was all under construction. It was 97 degrees out and I had told my wife I'd just go get the sign made. NO sign booth! I asked a gal at the sunglass booth where the sign shop was? All she said was, The Hawaiian Marketplace - 2 McDonald's south! I started walking back past the Flamingo, past Paris, and ran into a policeman. I asked him where the Hawaiian Maeketplace was. He said it was one more crossover south and maybe another 1/2 mile. I thanked him and kept walking. Finally got to the marketplace and found the sign booth. The gentleman made my sign and I started the trek back to the Flamingo. By the time I got back my shirt was soaked with sweat. I headed to the room and took another shower and changed clothes. Atleast I got the sign.

I always rent a car so location is never a problem.

SP is very comfortable, nice size rooms and majority of vp is full pay. Nothing fancy but everthing about SP feels roomy. They have the most effecient check in, very fast. Alot of the other Hotels can take a lesson from them.

I don't know how much play is required but I spent 5 nights there and it was taken care of at the end of my trip.

If you like margaritas, the bar on the 2nd floor where the Mexican and Primarily Prime Rib restaurants are, I believe Sun - Thur, not really sure, from 5 - 7, you can choose any tequila drink for $2. The selection isn't that large but good enough. Also, they're served in plastic cups. This doesn't bother me tho cause I'm alittle germaphobic, I know no ones lips have touched my cup.

It is close to M which I did play one day. I'm already receiving free room and show offers from them.

We just stayed at Southpoint last Thursday and Friday. OMG. We really enjoyed the place too! I'm glad I found this board, otherwise I dont know that it would have ever been a place I would have picked to stay at!

I love the South Point. I kinda made a scene last time I was there and hope it doesn't hinder any possible attempt to visit again.

for the record I complained about something and then realized I probably should have just left well enough alone.

Two weeks of casino hopping will do that to a guy. :peace:

I am a fan of the South Point also, out of the last 6 trips, I've stayed there 5 times. If we get the urge to leave, we grab a cab to the M, but honestly, we don't leave.

We usually get a town car or limo from presidential limo for the trip from the airport, and either ride their free shuttle, or take a cab back, depending on flight times. The times we have ridden the shuttle, the trip took 10 minutes.

It's the best kept secret in Las Vegas, and needs to stay that way!

Might be staying at SouthPoint next week, did any of you ever use their shuttle to the strip? How was it?

A week ago today, my wife and I returned from our first stay at South Point and really liked it, too. We really loved a dinner we had at Primarily Prime Rib.

Casino-wise, we didn't have much luck on the penny machines but did okay on some reel slots, and they had double-deck $5 blackjack! We can't wait to go back.

I would recommend upgrading to a mid-level room, as the first room they gave us had no view whatsoever, looking at a huge stucco wall.

    Hi JJ:

I'm the one who left the tip about bringing a roll of duct tape with you. I'm glad to hear it worked for you!

For those who may have missed this and have a trip to SP scheduled, the room curtains don't close very well, and at night are assaulted by 10 million watt spotlights that shine from the front (or back) of the hotel up into the windows. If you like it dark, or even semi-dark in your room when you sleep, then you need to tape the curtains to the wall.

A roll of duct tape works like a charm. No big deal to bring along with you, and it will pay great rewards!

    Independents

    Nice
Southpoint & "M-Resort" are 2 hidden treasures, they have to work harder to bring in the players, & give them a better value for their gaming dollar.

The best part, is there not Owned by Mgm, or Cet.
(The Sows of the strip, all they want to do is eat your $$$ & Oink at you)

    Go Go Independents!

Yep, and after our stay on Mon & Tues at the Flamingo, I was glad to be away from the strip crowd and CET.

Wed night was at Main Street Station downtown, which again if not for the board (and Joe) we would have never picked either. LOVED that place too!

We love M Resort too, but our budget wouldn't allow a stay there this time, although we did make stop in there for a couple of hours!

Funny I was talking to a family member this weekend and they mentioned they were going to Vegas this weekend for the Truck race, this is a family member that always stays at The Venetian... Is staying at Southpoint. I told him he'd be amazed at how great the place was!

we are staying at SP Oct 15-18. I love the tip about the duct tape. I'm glad i saw it, because i love a dark room, and would have probably been miserable.

someone mentioned upgrading to a mid level room. How much was that? we've got the basic type room, a Deluxe king. We've been to Vegas many many times over the years, and have been offered to upgrade at various hotels, but have refused.

however, this is our first vacation without kids since got married 21 years ago, so maybe we'll do it!
