Slots Does Max-Betting Make Machines Hit Differently?

I was told that machines will hit randomly according to their own hidden payout percentage no matter what the denomination you are playing. However, I played the Sex and the City machine this past weekend on max-bet at Revel Atlantic City, burning through my bonus dollars, and I kept hitting bonuses. On about the third, I hit the Mr. Big bonus, and won all three of those Mr Big prizes (including the progressive). Was a great experience, but it makes me wonder if the machine rewarded me for max betting. I've bet all sorts of amounts on that machine before, and never did I see the bonuses keep coming like that. Is there anything to this, or did I just go on one heck of a run? Thanks!

 

Can not answer the original question, but on machines like Sex City, playing less than max bet does not seem to be a good idea.

By playing max, you always get the progressive when it comes up. Playing less than max, you may or may not.

Also, by playing max, you have more chances to get a bonus round.

No way would I ever, ever, ever play a machine like that with less than max coin in. You give up too much.

 

The number of coins bet has no effect on what will show up on the pay lines. Of course, on some machines, you must bet max coins to activate various features or pay lines, so with less coins you still could hit those features but they wouldn't be active.

Many 1cent machines are pretty much strict multipliers, so you aren't activating anything new by betting max coins. As long as I'm betting all the lines, I'll just pick the number of coins per line that makes me comfortable about the $$ per spin number.

Also, on lots of reel machines there is a small bonus for playing 3 coins instead of one (like the top jackpot is 2000/4000/7500 for 1,2,3, coins), but the jump on the 3-coin jackpot isn't that big a deal. On those machines I'm just as happy to play 1 coin than three, like if it is a $1 machine. I'd rather get a lot more spins at $1 per spin than less at $3.

If there is a progressive jackpot or very large jackpot that only pays on max coins, I ALWAYS will pay max coins, or not play that machine at all.

 

There are some machines that actual have a posted notice that increasing the bet increases the odds of the bonus appearing. But what percentage is the question. If you play $6 on a SITC and increase your odds by 1% over playing 50 cents, how much are you winning? Of course the pay offs sometimes more - such as the number of picks you get when you hit one of the progressives. The secret is really to play at a level you can afford. You may not even get to the bonus round if you run out of money.

 

SITC is my go to machine on my last trip i played the whole week at 2$ per spin and did ok on the last day i said what the hell and played 6$ a spin and also hit the MR big bonus

The casinos really want you to bet max credits. They put up signs and little suggestions and even promise the potential of the biggest oayout.

Why do you think they do all of this? So they can give you more money or so they can take more of your money?

Its a casino, not a church. They are there to take your money and encouraging you to bet max is one way they do it.

 

Sure, the casino wants you to play more. But that doesn't mean that playing more doesn't add to the player advantage on a percentage level.

If a machine is playing for $1 and pays out 93%, the casino makes 7 cents a spin. If you play the same machine for $5, and they raise the payout to 95%, the casino makes 25c a spin. But the player still has a better game, assuming he/she can afford it.

As always, the advice above is sound -- play at the level you're comfortable and don't worry about much else.
