Imperial Palace chain latchs?

Can anyone tell me if there are "chain latches" on the doors? I have read several reports of people entering the room at night, and some people putting the ironing board or objects in front of the door...I would feel much better knowing that there is a chain latch that can help prevent this.

 

There wasn't a chain latch in the penthouse suite so I wouldn't expect the other rooms to have one.

 

You know you're in a quality hotel when guests feel to need the barricade the doors at night!

 

The couple of times we our friends stayed at the IP there were no chain latches, but we never felt there was a need for them.
I would like to hear more about the instances were people had to barricade themselve in their room.

They have the dead bolt you use from inside the room. How would anyone get past that?

 

This is silly.

No one is going to break into your room at night. They have a full security staff and cameras throughout the place.

 

Though I might agree it is somewhat silly, the second half is not that helpful. They can have a hundred security people working, but if they are not on that floor, anyone can break in. And, not sure how many cameras are in the hotel corridors. Nothing like the casino.

Breakins are very rare, but they can happen.

Those chains are not worth much by the way. Deadbolts are much better.

 

These are just reports....or things said in reviews on TA and Yelp. I have not stayed there yet...(8 days to go) I know alot of things are made up...and reviews can say anything...but I certainly wouldnt want someone entering or trying to enter as I was sleeping. (reviews also state that doors do not always lock) Its just a bit scarey traveling as a woman and staying alone. Im not comfortable sharing a room with the other women, as I do not know them well, and feel I would rest better alone in a room. Im sure things will be fine. Just like the added security of a deadbolt or chain latch...to atleast alert me that someone is trying to get in before they actually do

Our 1st stay at IP, the first room we were sent to, had a kicked in door frame that was half assed repaired, The door strike was split in two.
(we requested & were sent to a new room)

So yes, it is an Issue there.

 

We have been going to Vegas since 2001 and have always stayed at IP. Another couple also goes with us. In all the stays we have never had the same room twice and all rooms have had a working dead bolt on the door. We have always felt safe there and if we hadn't we would stay elsewhere.

 

If you are THAT worried about it, just take a door-stop with you, you know the little rubber wedge. For less that $2, feel safe.

 

I was being a little facetious - though I gotta say that if I had to worry about someone busting in, I'd definitely consider paying a few dollars more to stay at a different hotel (even a comped room definitely isn't worth worrying about my safety).

 

I've been staying at the IP since 1994, and not once have I ever given a single thought towards my room being broken into. *ANY* hotel room can be easily entered if you forget the cardinal rule: always make sure your door is latched! Plenty of people fail to realize that their doors are not fully closed and latched when they leave (or arrive at) their rooms. If you don't pull or push on the door to make sure it's fully closed and locked, then you might get robbed...no matter what hotel you're at.

The IP's room doors have deadbolts that you can use while you're in the room. In the past, the doors have also had a solid metal bar version of a chain latch for extra security. But I've never used them so I stopped even noticing them, and I'm not sure if they're still installed. But I wouldn't be surprised if they are.

To summarize, the IP is not some den of thieves where would-be invaders are skulking through the halls at all hours of the day and night. Barricading doors with ironing boards is paranoia running rampant. Just do what any hotel guest at any hotel should do...shut the door tightly and make sure it's latched.

 

If I'm that worried about someone breaking in, I don't think a little chain latch is going to do much to make me feel safer. I think the main purpose of being able to lock from the inside is to prevent staff from walking in on you mistakenly.

 

I honestly I don't recall if there was a latch but there was a least two locks on the door. There are so many reasons to not stay at IP before you even discuss security issues, though.

 

The IP is FINE.....this year we stayed 5 nights in a LUV TUB room and had a GREAT time....and YES there are DEAD BOLTS on every door which are MUCH better then a chain.

 

Thanks everyone...Im really not worried about anyone breaking in...but do and have always used the chain when in the room just to alert me if someone does try to enter...even if it is only the maid. It just makes a person worry when they read reviews of these things happening, and hear that the hotel does not take it seriously. Im not a drinker....not a gambler...so chances are I am not going to get drunk and lose these things...I dont understand or believe all the reports...but there are a few that make me worry. Its too late to change hotels now...as I am meeting other women there, and it would be rude of me to up and change now. Im sure things will be fine...I just wont take valuables with me.

 

And, to add some basic logic here. A single woman sometimes thinks she is more vulnerable in a hotel room.

If someone were to walk down the hall and pick a room to break into, keep in mind that they all look the same. The one with the single woman looks the same as the room with 4 football players bunking together, or the same as a woman bunking with a lumberjack size guy.

The only way anyone knows who is in that room is if they just happen to be in the hall as you enter. And, common sense says if you are walking down the hall and feel uncomfortable due to someone else in the hall, you just keep walking right back to the casino.

 

I used to stay there all the time ten years ago and always had an inside room. I have seen video of their motel type outside-walkway rooms near the parking garage. I don't know what they are called but I wouldn't want my wife staying in one of those alone.

 

That was the Capri tower, which was taken out sometime in the last year.
