I have been playing at the Beau Rivage three or four times a year for the past three years. I'm comfortable there. I know the crowd, the staff, the location of the closet bathroom, etc. Haven't been to Vegas in 10 years. I know it's not like Mississippi. I'm sure they do things a bit differently and I'd hate to look clueless. I'm looking for advice on what NOT to do. Some things that you see are common mistakes. Here are a few examples - first time I opened a LOC I went up the craps table and asked for a $600 buy in. The dealer was very kind and softly mentioned they are only given out in $500 increments. Boy did I feel like a goober. I've also gone into the high limit slots and sat down at what I thought was a $10 machine that turned out to be $100. When I couldn't play 2 credits I sheepishly walked away and out of the high limit area. Duh. I would appreciate any advice of the common (or uncommon) errors you see that I could avoid.

What not to do is simple, DONT WORRY ABOUT IT. Its LV, they have seen it all and deal with new comers daily, no one expects an expert. I have found its best to explain to a dealer you may need guidance, they are usually more than accomodating.

For me, i think the thing is just to have confidence. Don't worry about being embarrassed, nothing your going to do isn't something that thousands of others have. A simple buy in mistake in no biggie and varies from casino to casino. The good establishments have friendly staff who are willing to help out. Just go out there and have fun! PS: I'm also a craps player, I've had fantastic play at Bellagio, I suggest you play craps at night over there if you like a fun crowd with great action.

We are regulars at Beau as well. Off the Vegas at least twice a year for past few years.

Mistakes you made are somewhat easy to make. Trying to think of the differences.

    *Everything is more expensive

    * Getting comp drinks at bar is a bigger deal in Vegas. They don't give anything away

    * Everybody expects a tip in Vegas. (will probably need to tip the porn slappers soon - LOL)

    * High limit is higher than places like the Beau

    * Food and drinks are way more expensive in Vegas

But, since you have already been to Vegas, you should be just fine.

I think you are worrying about it way too much: You "notice" this stuff, think about it and put too much importance on it because its happening to you.

That is because you are the center of your own universe, and the reality is that you aren't the center of everybody else's.

So that dealer and the line of credit "issue", he probably stopped thinking about it seconds after the fact, and your blunder/goof/gaffe/however you want to describe it was probably something he alread saw a few dozen times that week.

And the $100 slot machine: unless somebody stopped you to take a survey of why you didn't play, how would anybody know why you didn't play a machine? And again, I just don't think anybody really cared about it and whether or not you played that machine. When you stood up from that machine I doubt anybody in the whole high limit stopped playing to turn and stare at you until you hung your head in shame and slinked out of their with your tail between your legs.

Dont' stop for the characters in the street (it only encourages them!) and don't take anything anyone hands to you on the street.

Thanks everyone, I feel better already. Repairs going on at my house and big projects at work are all a nightmare. So I find myself focusing on this trip waaaaay too much as an escape. I have the map memorized and have looked at about every menu in Vegas on line. I just need to chill and be excited, not anxious.

On my first trip to Atlantic City I couldn't get the slot machines to take my money so I went to the cashier cage and asked if they could exchange my bills for me.
The lady looked at me kind of funny then explained that the machines did not except $1 Bills only $5 Bills and higher. Yeah I felt kind of stupid. Oh and for the record
for a gaming destination that's always hurting for money they should except $1 Bills! I hate having to play that one last pull for less than the Max Bet.

I agree with CaptainRon....don't sweat it. Just go and enjoy yourself. Its not like everyone on the floor is going to stop and point and laugh at you if you do something that is 'embarrassing'.

You could be like me when once playing VP could not figure out why the heck my tito would not print and pressed for help to find out I had to first play the hand...

or the first time I sat at a limit poker table and put in the wrong amount for the blinds...I was sitting in the 2 seat and the dealer actually leaned all the way over to look at this idiot :nworthy:

    LOL
yep done it and will probably do something as goofy again!!

Back when Vegas still had coin in machines on the strip I sat down at what I thought was a quarter machine. I pulled some change out of my pocket and started digging through the loose change I had cupped in my hand when a casino employee walks over and says "Sir, that's a $25 machine". :goofy: I didnt realize that I wandered into the high limit area. I guess I had too many :drunk:

You might do something you think is embarrasing, but someone else close by probably just did something worse.

Oh, been there, done that, lol. I can't tell you how many times I have also been sitting next to someone doing that and have to explain to them to play their hand. LOL.

I too, have tried to play a machine that i thought was a quarter machine only to find out it is a $25 machine. I couldn't figure out why no one was playing these and WHY even after I put money in, I couldn't play. Oops. I always walk away laughing wondering if the eyes in the sky are totally laughing at me OR even worse, playing max bet, losing and wondering why I can't play another round. OMG that was a quick $75!

I think we have all made some funny blunders, its all part of the fun and the great part is no one cares, unless you get some boob at BJ that thinks you made a bad move and gets all in your face. UGH

    Read the TABLE limit signage

This trip I walked up and was trying to make bets but I had a hard time understanding the dealer since he was from SE Asia. I would throw out bets and he would throw it back or keep adding to my odds. I finally figured out the table limit was higher than it usually has been.

Luckily, the shooter makes point and I collect and I move over to a different table. Two minutes later, someone else does the EXACT same thing as me at that higher limit table.

From that point on, I always read the table limit signage before I made a mule of myself.

When in doubt, stand and watch a bit before you play.

life is a learning experience. i don't see any reason that you'd have to feel embarrassed if you don't know something. if you're nice and polite, you'll be fine. most dealers appreciate somebody that doesn't act like he knows everything.
