Has Strip drink service gotten so bad?

I'm posting this from my room at Aria...

So far, I've been in town since about 6 p.m. on Sunday and haven't gotten one drink while gambling. There was one offer while in TI, when I had to drive in a few minutes, but otherwise, not a single, "COCKTAILS!" heard in a casino on the Strip. I've played in Palazzo, Aria, Monte Carlo, Bellagio and even a rather long stretch in Excalibur.

If it wasn't for a trip to Lee's Discount Liquor, I would be raiding the minibar as I type.

Can't wait for the second part of the trip, with off-strip and downtown casinos where they still understand why people visit casinos.

Great drink service and offered frequently.

Sorry to hear about the lack of cocktail service so far.
That can put a real damper on a trip, I know.

GRRR dont say that!!!! Hope it was just a bad streak... we wont gamble with no drinks. Not being an alcoholic but if im going to blow cash on 85% payback slots I want a dang drink to drown my sorrows!

 

We just returned from a trip at MGM Grand from August 27-30th......we hit 11 different casino's on the south side of the strip and NEVER had a problem getting free cocktails while playing........but you didn't say if you were playing tables or slots.....we play almost all BJ with some Let it Ride.....and when we really just want to relax for FREE cocktails we belly up to a bar and play VP....MGM Grand with bar tender Tony was FANTASTIC this year.......he made the wife the real whiskey sours in a large tulip type glass and when I ordered a LI Ice Tea he also used a large glass.....needless to say he was compensated well over the time we spent with him....

 

We got the best service downtown and at the Flamingo and Imperial Palace. We waited quite a while at Bellagio.

 

I played the Monte Carlo this weekend and was rarely without a drink in my hand.

 

i've almost never had a problem whether i'm playing in the HL room or out on the main floor. but as others have said, that's tables. slots is a different animal. i can't imagine how the CWs can cover the entire floor and get around to you quickly. so i can imagine that it's tougher out there.

 

I think tables are a lot easier to service because the players stay put more often. Some slot players move from machine to machine as part of their stratagy. This makes it very easy to be over looked, or out of a servers area, when she returns with an order.

 

We were there about 5 weeks ago and my wife and I never had an issue getting a drink at any of the casinos we were at. I think the most we waited was about 5 min. for the drink at Monte Carlo.

 

I was wondering the same thing myself. We had the worst drink service a couple of weeks ago. Venetian was terrible. Mirage and Harrah's was not good. Flamingo and Planet Hollywood were awesome as usual.

 

Casino floors are vast areas and some parts of them simply dont get covered by cw's.

Walk around the casino and when you see one, follow their route. they only have so much real estate on their tray so their routes will be fairly small.

Now sit someplace in their route and enjoy the drinks.

Another trick is to see where they go to get the drinks. If its a back room it will just be an open door that says staff only.

Sit at a machine right in front of this door and you will get all of them coming and going.

 

I just got back from Cosmopolitan and Planet Hollywood, and never had a problem getting drinks at either place.

 

I was there mid August, stayed at Encore. Drinks whilst playing table games were fine but not so good in the slot areas. Waited an awful long time. Venetian/Palazzo was awful at both tables and slots. Had good service at the tables at TI.

 

Just returned from a trip and the Cosmo drink service was very good, and Bally's along with PH and Excalibur were both good.

 

I once tipped $10 while playing video poker at Excalibur. I had a second drink within 4 minutes, and at one point had 3 lined up to the point where I couldn't even drink them all.

 

Do you tip on the subsequent drinks, too?

 

Depends on my mood and intention. In this case, I tipped her $10 on the first because it was the smallest bill I had. I didn't tip her on the second, then tipped her $5 on the third...after that it gets a little hazy...

Normal for me is to start with a $5 and then play it by ear. If I'm at the tables and winning, I stick with $5. If it's not going as well, I'll drop it down to $1 or $2.

I just look at it as part of gambling. If you can afford to gamble the way I do, you can afford to tip. I know not everybody sees it that way, and I have nothing but respect for everybody's opinions. It's your money, and you should do with it exactly as you please. But for me it just makes it more enjoyable for the entire experience. I have a good life, and it's my pleasure to share part of it. My waitress this weekend remembered me from my last trip, for example, which was kind of neat. She even remembered how I take my coffee.
