I always struggle with this a bit. I fly 5 to 6 times a year. I want to be comfortable but still look put together and not sloppy. I want shoes that are easy to get on and off, will keep my feet warm in flight and are comfortable to walk in. I want colors that will hide any drips or dribbles just in case.

I usually end up in khakis, black chinos or nice jeans with a knit top and light jacket. I'll add a sweater in cooler temps. I wear a pair of Clark shoes for comfort. Not a fashion queen by any means but enough to feel passable.

I am always surprised by the flip flops, sundresses, short shorts, 3 inch heels etc. More power to 'em, I'd be miserable.

Do you have a go-to outfit for travel?

I realize you're writing this from a female perspective, but from the male side...when I fly it's jeans, no matter how hot it is; Reeboks and a short sleeve shirt with a pocket.

Jeans so my legs don't get cold, shirt pocket for drink coupons and boarding pass. Reeboks because they are great walking shoes.

Usually a polo, slacks or jeans, and most importantly, comfortable shoes that are easy to slip off & on. Comfort is paramount - that's why when I travel for business, it's almost always for a minimum of 3 days - I try at all costs to avoid arriving or departing on the same day as a client meeting, because I hate having to fly in a suit, tie & dress shoes.

I am old enough to remember when flying was a special occasion and there was a dress code. My uncle used to work for American and if he flew as an employee he was required to wear a tie.

Comfort is primary but I don't understand the people who are obviously going directly to the beach. I usually do jeans or khakis with a cotton shirt and keep the sweater in my carry on. I almost admire those people with enough confidence to show off their every mole and hair. Maybe if I were better looking. Ummm, no I still couldn't do it. I would never wear shorts and have my bare legs on those seats. Who knows what has been spilled or worse. Eeewwww.

I usually try to dress decently in real life (I am one of the few in my office that went kicking and screaming into "business casual" ... I've got some awesome shirt/tie combinations) but I dress my worst on an airplane.

I am around 300#, so I don't want to wear a belt on a plane, as three hours of my belt buckle jammed into my ample belly can get painful over the Rockies. So I wear shorts with a drawstring.

You would think sneakers would go with shorts, but the necessity of removing shoes in the security line plus the crampedness of the rows suggest that I wear bedroom slippers. They slip on and off in security, on the plane they slide off while in my seat and can be put in the magazine pouch in the seatback.

I do wear a polo shirt, and when I get to the arriving airport, I can slide my khakis on over my gym shorts, put on my shoes and put the slippers into my carry on.

I guess I fly alot so I have it down. Jeans, short sleeve shirt and comfortable slip on shoes with socks. I can't stand walking barefoot through the security area  Depending on the season, I am either wearing or have in my carryon a cardigan sweater or sweatshirt.

I also have 2 items that I carry on. One is a nice rolling backpack that goes into the overhead and isn't touched until I land. The other is a cloth shopping bag with all the items I need during the flight - a blanket that zips into a small pillow, headphones, gum/mints, a book or magazine, a pair of fuzzy socks, a bottle of water purchased after security, and snacks if the flight is long. I stick the water & book in the seat back, put the headphones around my neck, the gum in my pocket, the pillow next to the window and the fuzzy socks on my feet. My soft bag is now empty except for my teeny travel purse and it slips under the seat and I have everything I need for a comfortable (well as comfortable as a fat ass in 17" seat can be) flight.

But I still freaking hate to fly!!!

Interesting. Guy or gal I'm not sure it matters. I've seen guys in the male equivalent of 3 inch heels etc. Like Ezzy711, I almost admire anyone who is willing to do this.

    First time flying

:wave:Well, I can't answer the question. But, just wanted to say, thanks to everyone. I will have my first flying experience in October and have been unsure as to what to wear, especially footwear. I now have some good ideas. So, again, thanks!

I've changed in the McCarran bathrooms more than I should admit in a public forum.

Just so I can wear sloppy clothes on the plane. Jeans, t-shirt, sweatshirt and sneakers.

Normally jeans, flipflops & a comfy shirt with a lite cover-up & a bigger cover up over that. I have a tendency to get cool on a plane. This also keeps me in check for cooler weather or a casino cover up when I get there. I have a nice bag from Lands End that holds a ton but still will fit under the seat, as it is soft sides so you can 'smush' it as needed. I stick my purse in it while boarding or if I want to doze & make sure it stays 'unbothered' under the seat. This allows me to still take a separate carry on if I am flying where I have to pay for a bag.

Enjoy your flight. Just remember that you will have to take your shoes and any jacket, sweater, etc. off when going through security. Have your little quart size ziplock out and ready. Don't forget to get rid of your bottled water, coffee, etc before getting in the security line. I like having water handy while flying. I used to buy a bottle of water once I got through security. Now, I just bring a reusable, empty bottle with me through security. I don't mind paying too much for a nice Starbucks or draft beer but it really yanks my chain to pay the ridiculous airport prices for a bottle of water.

Cargo Shorts with deep pockets for my iPhone, wallet, eye-glasses, chap-stick, eye-drops and small hand sanitizer.
Shirt is usually a loose fitting long sleeve pull over. White New Balance quarter socks & boxer-briefs for comfort! :ssst:
Casual shoes laced in order to slip on and off like loafers. No Belt!

slip on shoes, yoga pants, sleeveless top, purse under the seat and carryon in overhead - I am so excited to be travelling that I get very overheated - so my first task once seated is to get the air jets aimed right at my head! I always think I am going to be cold on the plane and I am always way too warm!

Comfort is the only issue for me when I fly.

    > Long cargo pants

    > Depending on the temperature outside either a short sleeve or long sleeve t-shirt.

    > Hiking shoes.

If there is some sort of delay for 3 hours where I am stuck on the plane on the tarmac, I am not going to be in anything else.

I usually wear jeans or, if it's hot, lightweight khaki pants or maybe even shorts for a short flight (no pun intended); t-shirt; lightweight jacket or fleece sweater or hoodie. I don't own any comfortable slip-on shoes so it's either running shoes or my Merrill lightweight hikers or maybe Tevas in the summer. There must be a pocket somewhere for lip balm.

Then I have an awesome Baggallini purse for travel; perfect, lightweight, dark color and lots of pockets - so many that I tend to "lose" items (like my passport or boarding pass) because I've forgotten which pocket I've put them in! :haha: I use a backpack if I need something bigger than my purse.

I wear a polo shirt, nice jeans or khakis and comfortable shoes. Everyone has a right to wear what they want but it kills me when people step on the plane and look like they just rolled out of bed sporting pajamas or similar attire. Or when they look like they are wearing clothes they haven't washed in days or they look like they are heading to the beach. When I check in at the hotel I want to at least look presentable.

Jeans and t-shirt with a hoodie. It's always cold on the plane. I will wear flip-flops or sneakers. For me it's all about comfort. Planes are so uncomfortable, especially Allegiant, that I will do whatever I can to make it a little more comfortable.

If I need jeans or tennis shoes during a trip, I wear them on the plane. Otherwise something loose fitting like a track suit.
