Heading to N/W Illinois for the holiday weekend and will skate over the river to the Dubuque. Anyway, one of the casinos is really pushing its all new and exciting fire bet. Writes it up like this:

Meet the newest member of our Table Family! Be sure to enjoy this new twist on our classic Craps Table.

    3 Points: 7 for 1
    4 Points: 30 for 1
    5 Points: 150 for 1
    6 Points; 300 for 1

First, while I haven't played craps every where in Vegas, I've been there a number of times in the last 5 years and can't remember seeing a Fire Bet pay out for 3 points. Second, the way this casino has this thing written up (on a different portion of their site) the give the impression that it pays out for any 3/4/5/6 points made--i.e., you don't have to make differing/individual points.

Talking to friends, we think that just can't be that they must mean to hit the 300 for 1, you have to make every point on the table. I said, hell I don't know. Every Vegas casino I've been in the pay ration for the 5 points and 6 points is considerably higher (although most I remember paid 25 for 1 for 4 points)---so who knows.

Any thoughts?? (and I know, regardless of how they administer their fire bet, it is a statistical bad bet)

Not only do you have to hit six points, you have to hit six different numbers. Meaning if you make the 6 as a point 4 times in a row, that's still only 1 point.

Firebet is a great way to put the dealers on the action cheap, though. $1 tip.

This is the exact paytable they have in Cripple Creek Colorado.

While the fire bet has a huge HA, it has one of the highest entertainment values of any bets in the casino. When you have hit the 4 point, and are in the money, when you set the 5th point, the excitement really starts to build. Hit that 5th point, (knowing you're getting paid at least 250-1) and set the 6th and there may not be a more exciting time in the casino. It's the adrenaline rush and excitement of a slot jackpot, but drawn out for 10-20 minutes. A bad bet statistically, but point out a more exciting bet in the casino for 1-5 bucks...

    I will second this comment.

Last year ago I rolled 6 points on the fire bet. I was on it for $5 and $1 for the dealers so we had a nice win to celebrate. Oddly, I was the only person at the table on the fire bet - I will never understand it….It is certainly worth a $1 flyer at least and I will never play at a table with a fire bet unless I put at least $1 on it.

I always play the same progression - $10 pass, 1 time odds, place two numbers and go up a unit after each hit. As each point is made, place a third, then a fourth number. I only made seven points - made the 9 twice and two of the points were buckshots. Interestingly I made the hardest numbers first and saved the 6 and 8 for last. Once I made the fourth number I did start increasing my odds and throwing out nickle hardways bets. But I made the points so quickly I did not really add a lot to my bankroll. The dealer told me my entire roll lasted only about 20 minutes and there was a lot of slowness with 6 people playing on my end of the table. Other than the $5000 win (cut to $3600 with taxes deducted) I really won almost nothing on my roll.

When I made the fifth point I immediately set the final point - an eight. I took $300 and layed the eight - the only green chips in my rack. I would have won $200 (I think) minus commission plus received my $300 back. On my third roll I hit a hard eight (with $5 on the hardway) and threetimes odds. So I lost the $250 but won the $5000. No complaints from me. :woohoo:

Nice roll. Please come play at my table this weekend.

There are a couple ways to look at this. If you made 7 points and I wasn't on the firebet, given my level of play and the way I press, I'd still have made about $3000.

Harrah's Metropolis Illinois offers firebet too, but its the more typical (I think) pay scale

    4 points 1:25
    5 points 1:125
    6 points 1:1000

I prefer the payscale the original poster put up though-- seems like you would get more out of it

The payout for 3 points is OK, but in all honesty....if you are going to take a tax hit for a 6 point "Duke", you might as well collect the 1000-1. Save your money and jack your odds and place bets instead.

Extra comment: Hopefully this is the Diamond Jo.....Not a fan of the puppy track, and the "Jo" is a much better place.

Funnier comment: Only in Iowa will a firebet be "NEW AND EXCITING!!"

Not true, sir! In Colorado I played in July and the Wildwood was all gaga about being the first casino to bring a new and exciting bet to Cripple Creek.
