Sounds like MGM is indeed going to finally give Mandalay Bay the love they've denied it ever since taking over Mandalay Resort Group - I've been on the fence about finally giving Mandalay a try, but this is really encouraging news that once the renovations are done it's going to be a top-tier place again - which now definitely puts it on my list for an upcoming trip.

This is horrible. There is nothing wrong with THEHotel now. If they wanted to change something, it should be a refresh of the Mandalay Bay rooms. The only reason why I have stayed at MB is for THEHotel. Elegant, classy, comforty and VERY well maintained.

Hopefully RM won't be touched by this attrocity. RM is one of the best restauants in all of vegas and has a celebrity chef at the restaurant at most times (Rick Moonen)...Great guy too...always comes around and will talk with the guests.

A side note ....THEHotel has the best restroom in vegas...on the walkway to the lobby across from the THECafe. Most probably aren't aware of this.

Everything the Light group has changed I have hated, so I'm sure I'll hate any changes they make to this nice property.

Maybe they'll take the money they get from licensing to give the original MB a refresh.

Maybe they can pick up MB with a crane and drop it on top of Imperial Palace to give it a bearable location.

This is awesome! I would like to see them on the MB itself but this great news also. I'm with Jilly I have been wanting to give it a shot and have talked with a really cool host so I think I might roll on down there and give them a shot especially if they get that ZIP LINE done.:drooling:

Sounds interesting. I'm like many of you - I've never really given MB/THE a chance due to location. But this will make it a bit more tempting.

I'll be interested to see how aggressive they try to get with pricing.

AGGGGHHHHHHHH.........maybe. I like that Morgan is in on the redesign having stayed at Delano a few years back, but freakin Light group has too much of a tendency to FUBAR things. We love THE and it's become our home hotel so they better do this thing right and not F up our home away from home.

It might turn out okay. I just hope they don't touch the Four Seasons, Charlie Palmer Steak or RM Seafood during the renovation :)

I love Mandalay and THEhotel. But, THEhotel (well both) could use a polish to be quite honest. I mean the complaints really? THEhotel is outdated at dingy now, it even lost it's 5 star status. I think this is a good idea. Regardless, it needed to be updated to compete.

    So I'm excited for this!

When is this gonna start? We were thinking about booking there in December...

No need to. I'm not opposed necessarily to a refresher, only who's doing the refreshing.

Light group has a history of making a good thing bad, unless your thing is to eat at nice restaurant opened up to the casino floors, chairs that are bar stools at fancy restaurants and overpriced everything from drinks to food to night clubs. Brand, Diablos, Fix, and Stack are never any restaurants I hear as must do's each trip.

I also find it commical that folks NOW think MB is worth a try. Usually the deal breaker has been the location. That's not changing. Tell me how it turns out. Another change in vegas for the worst.

certainly sounds interesting. but i'd give it maybe a 10% chance of actually becoming something great to rival the other top end properties. maybe 10% is too high still ...

I really don't understand why they want to mess with The Hotel when Mandalay is really in bad shape. The Hotel is much newer. More expensive to stay and one of my fav. places to stay because it's classy and nice, not "themed". On the other hand, our last trip to Mandalay in June was in a 1500x3 suite and it was a mess. missing molding, missing refrigerators in cabinets. The light in the bathroom would go out if you used the hair drier. It was just dingy and badly in need of being updated.

I don't understand why they are going into business with the guys who bailed on Echelon.

When I was there last weekend, I saw it looks like Rum Jungle is finally turning into "The Nightclub at Mandalay Bay"

Maybe they will buy out the Ferris Wheel across the way and incorporate it into the first class design elements of the property's new image. That would go hand in hand with the Light Group. They could have "Wheel Wars" with CET to see who can go into bankruptcy first.
