Hello. So I've had THE BUZZ MGM Fall Offer of a Complimentary 2 night stay in a Grand Room available until December 26, 2012 to use. I was going to take my girlfriend for her birthday this November and figured I should book it. When I logged onto Mlife tonight, my once "Complimentary MGM Fall Offer" is now showing $59 Sun - Thursday or $80 for a suite??? The offer has been on my account since early July, also showed must book my 12/26/12.

I received an email a month ago (forgot the name of the offer) ...clicked on the book now link, (MGM Grand) it was for 3 comp nights....logged into mlife through it and it said I did not qualify...well then why the hell send it to me then? Another reason I stick with CET and their calendar.

Sounds to me like MGM is tightening offers in light of an improving economy. I think people forget that the level of comping the last 5 years has generally been much higher than it was pre-recession, and as business improves, comps will likely tighten again across all the operators.

I also wouldn't call this a full V/P - at least they're tightening the offers before you've booked them - V/P actually pulled already booked comps, many with little or no notice.

But again, this is why I think the casinos have really opened a pandora's box of trouble for themselves with the whole computerized, "self-serve" comping system - once they've given people a certain level of comps or offers, they start to feel entitled - and then slighted - whenever the casinos try to tighten the offers - and they wind up in a "catch-22" of either never being able to tighten offers and comp levels after they've loosened them, or winding up with disgruntled customers whenever they do tighten offers.

We also got the offer (3 nights comped) back in June......tried SEVERAL times to connect online per the link they gave us.....nothing.......so we called and booked August 20 - August 23 without a problem on the phone.....said the offer was good.......but then we got much better flights for August 27th for three days and call MGM Grand back......they switched the week without a problem and again the 3 day comped offer stands........so if you're really interested CALL MGM Grand......

i don't think it has anything to do with the economy, it's piss poor management that's hellbent on reducing expenses at any cost and completely missing the big picture. just like politicians trying to get re-elected, they're only interested in their next bonus, not in the long term future of the company. sure in the short run their cuts are definitely going to make profits soar and their end of the year bonus is going to be great this year. of course in the long run it's going to hurt the company, but they don't care right now.

I agree with both Jilly and Shifter.

I think they are reading the economy as changing in a manner which gives them the flexibility to return to pre-2008 theories.

They are wrong and I think it will cost them almost immediately in real terms with maybe a delay where things look better due to their accounting.

Also agree this isn't to the level of V/P with pulling existing offers. It is close in the sense I relied on a fairly new system I didn't anticipate experiencing wholesale changes when I chose to focus my play at Bellagio while completely foregoing CET. That was a mistake which I regret.

    MGM can't service it's debt.

It's really not that they are trying to screw anyone. The company is in real trouble. If you get a chance, look at their quarterly reports & listen to their conference calls. They are still losing money. They aren't able to make enough to pay off the debt.

Yes, they're hellbent on reducing expenses. They have shareholders to answer to. They are depleting their reserves & incoming cash isn't enough to break even. I would rather a lesser offer for a decent experience than what has been happening to the other properties. Have you been to or gambled at the properties that are in or coming out of bankruptcy? They are bad. Overpriced, mediocre food, lousy table action, unhappy employees.

If things don't turn around soon, they may face bankruptcy in the next 4 to 6 qaurters. I know people will say "too bad, they overspent etc.". That is fine, I agree. For all the complaining about what Wynn, Venetian, & Caesers do or don't do for you. What do you think will happen to offers when a bunch of MGM properties are at a complete disadvantage of just trying to keep the lights on? The offers will really suck, etc. A lot of things can get worse for the experience.
Im told by many friends on the East coast that the Mohegan Sun & Foxwoods casinos are really struggling as well. They were taking in the money. Now they limit people to 1 drink per half hour. They comp/rate for shit. In Vegas you play $25 a hand BJ for 4 hrs or so & you usually get a comped night. In Mohegan Sun, you get about $3 added to your players card.

Well they are saving the marginal cost of a room cleaning and a buffet every day they don't comp me. So after adjusting for the fixed costs that is probably about....$10. Oh yeah they are also saving the effort of depositing my $10,000 in their bank account.

Just got off the phone with Aria.

Apparently I have been misunderstanding the mLife system entirely.

On my last trip to Bellagio I earned between 133,000-135,000 tier points. I showed a balance of around 45,000 tier points before I went, but somehow ended up with 214,000 after the trip. Not sure how that math works but its in my favor so ok.

According to Aria VIP services on my last trip I earned 6,000 "slot points over my 5-day trip. Only 3 nights were at Bellagio. This is enough to support one comped night. According to this woman 1 slot point is worth 25 tier points, explaining (sort of) the variance between my slot and tier points.

So somehow I am able to re-up my Platinum status by increasing my tier points in one trip by 169,000 points, but this same play translates into only 1 comp night.

    Ok. Cool. Glad I called.

    Glad...

    I....

    "Understand"

    How it works now. :evillaugh

So I finally called to find out what happened. The rep tells me the offer has been revised and the complementary room no longer applies. I asked how that's possible if I wasn't able to book until August 1? I kept asking how and why, but the rep kept only saying it's been revised.

You guys are all worked up over nothing. In addition to the $59 rate the new offer has 2-for-1 tickets to Brad Garrett's Comedy Club included. :evillaugh

It's not getting worked up, just crazy they can't give a reason as to why it changed. Btw, the original offer already had the 2for1 offer. I'll just book with my Aria offer of $79 a night and $50 resort credit, unless I get another invite.

One of the offers for Monte Carlo was shown as "expired" just 5 days after Sonya listed it on this site. It was supposed to run until 10/01/2012. Another Monte Carlo offer which ended today, was bumped up $25 over the previous price listed. Another sign that the times are changing, for better or for worse.

I wonder if its because of the new MLife changes happening come October? I have 7 casinos within a 2 hour or less drive here in SoCal, may have to visit them.

I can totally understand a CET offer or comp on the calendar - they don't give you a 'good until' etc. You book it when you can see it! However, this irks me a bit - they gave you a date which is still far out into the future. Yet still pulled/changed the offer vs. what was displayed.

No Hat Trick or Tom Foolery

I think if an offer is put out there they may have only a select number of rooms
to comp out. If you don't act on it fast enough someone else will. Bottom line is:
You snooze you loose! Ya gotta pounce on those comps!
