Hi all, I am interested in going to see Jerry Seinfeld in December. I have $70 in CET reward points that expire in October and not sure if I'm going to be able to keep them "active" (as the closest CET casino is a 6 hour drive and I am saving for Vegas and I don't want a credit card). Is there anyway I can pay for the tickets, using my comp $ to pay for a portion of the tickets? Or, are there any other ways to keep my points active? If I can pay for the tickets over the phone, do I just call total rewards or casear's box office? Thanks for the help
I personally never have but you may want to read this http://www.vegaschatter.com/story/2012/7/10/123220/343/vegas-travel/Caesars+Clarifies+Total+Rewards%27+Comp+Show+Ticket+Policy
Not sure if you can do that via phone or not. One way to try to save the points (or I should say 3 ways) - Send your card to someone & have them play at least one point on it in any CET casino (if you want I could take it with in September myself). That will extend expiration by 6 months. If you facebook & twitter, join socialrewards & even if you don't stick with it, stay with long enough to do a 1000 point redemption ($10) - it will extend the expiration date by 6 months from date of deposit. (It will take you a couple weeks to get the points earned & then another week or two to redeem) OR shop at a store you are planning on ordering from anyway through the totalrewards marketplace on the CET site. Do it right away as it can take up to 45 days or so for the 'points' you earn from shopping to get to your account. There are some common stores on there - I think WalMart may even be on there. If you ship to store or have it delivered the shipping price will still offset the loss of $70 in points. The few points you earn (1 per dollar?) will still be enough to extend the expiration date on your account by 6 months.
Even without a TR credit card, you can use the TR marketplace to keep your points. All it takes is a one-dollar purchase ever six months to save your points. They have big name retailers like Apple, Best Buy, Target and Kohls. It doesn't lock you into a credit card or any specific plan. https://www.totalrewards.com/TotalRewards/RewardsAndBenefits.do?page=trMarketPlace
Okay, thanks. I made a purchase through TR Marketplace. Website says my TR points are set to expire on 10/20/12 so I am within the 45 day window. So, I'm assuming from replies I can't call and redeem. When I physically go to Casino, I guess I'll just use them at a restaurant and prepay for the show.
If you are staying at a CET prop you can room charge nearly every restaurant or CET venue to your room & then apply the comps at check-out (including any additional you have earned). You will have to check out at the window in order to do this.
Don't know about the show tickets. Other ways to keep your points active would be earning points in a contest (escape to TR did it, I think social rewards would do it too if you're willing to spam friends), or mail your TR card to a friend going to a casino sooner and having them play a point for you. The latter I don't think I'd bother with for 70 bucks in rewards.
I have a similar question regarding the use of TR points. I made a reservation for New Orleans that required a deposit on my credit card. I plan to pay for the room with points when I checkout. Will they credit back my credit card and use points for the entire balance or can I only use points for the remaining nights that the credit card deposit didn't cover?
Unless you bought a non refundable rate (rare), nothing was charged on your credit card. The normal deposit is in case you do not show up, etc. When you get there, you can still use your credit card, or cash. Then, some time before you leave, you stop at the desk and say you want to use points for your bill.
The charge for one of the nights already hit on my credit card. I can cancel up to 48 hours prior to my stay according to the reservation. New Orleans must have an exhorbitant tourist tax on their hotels. The tax on my $59 room was $13.67 or 23%. I don't suppose when I pay with points, I get to dodge that high tax. HARRAH'S NEW ORLEANS CANCELLATION POLICY A 48-hour cancellation notice is required prior to your arrival date to receive a refund of your deposit. If you cancel within 48 hours of your scheduled arrival, you will be charged for your 1st night's room rate and tax. DEPOSITS AND CREDIT CARDS To secure your reservation, your 1st night's room rate and tax will be charged to your credit card at the time of booking and your reservation will be guaranteed for late arrival. Those guests booking a Total Rewards offer may not be charged a deposit.
I have read where customers have earned enough TR comps (or had enough) and then had the original night backed off the credit card & paid for via TR points. So it can be done (I remember thinking that seemed nice!) -if you are told no, then ask to speak to a supervisor. Just give yourself extra time in case you need it.
Thanks for your replies. I'll try to remember to report my results but the trip isn't until late February.
