I have a 5 day stay booked at the Tropicana which is 80% pre-comped. (mid-October) Then I get this mailer from Wynn on a special rate at the Encore. It will end up at $1125 for 5 days. This icludes taxes, resort fee and a King Suite with $200 of FP included. Now the Tropicana is not even close in comparision, but I know I wouldn't have any problem covering additional expenses with comps there, meals and all. I feel comfortable with $25 to $50 bets for 4 to 6 hours a day, but I doubt if that would do me much good at the Wynn. Is the Wynn offer half way decent? Or more hype than anything else? Would my play have any value to Wynn? If I thought I could cut the room cost in half via my play, I would do it in a heart beat.

That special rate at Encore is not so special, and you are correct to assume that your play there would possibly result in NO additional comps. That said, a 5 night stay at Encore is a wonderful luxury experience while a 5 night stay at Trop might get quite old after the first 2 nights. It is up to you if the former is worth $1125.

I kinda agree with dankyone... I love the rooms at Wynn/Encore, but I've never really aclimated myself to the "vibe" of either place when downstairs, but that's just me. It's upscale, but a bit on the "stuffy" side IMHO. I do like the Trops "vibe", and they've spent some dough recently doing some things to make themselves competitive... but nobody will confuse the Tropicana for Wynn/Encore.

I was thinking along these same lines when I started this debate among myself. I stayed at the Bellagio once and my play didn't get anything there at all. Even after dropping five figure losses with them. I have been to the Tropicana about 6 or 7 times but not since they remodeled. They have always taken good care of me. I haven't played there since 2006, yet they are comping me a great deal up front with this stay. I guess I owe them some loyalty for all their effort. I'll just make a trip over to Wynn and do a walk through and a little slot play instead. Wynn's room just seemed to be so much better than the suite offered at the Tropicana.

My husband and I just stayed at Encore a week ago. We had a better room rate than what your offer is but no free play. DH bets about $25 per hand on average. We stayed 4 nights and when he talked to his host the night before checkout, we were comped 2 nights and some F&B. I would say that your $25-$50 would get noticed and I would recommend staying there.

    Vegasbabie;

That's some what encouraging. I have never stayed there. Does your play count at both Wynn properties and can you charge meals at both to your room? I'm not surprised at your better deal based on summer rates vs fall. The savings to me seems to be good when I look at their standard rates. It comes out to $895 for the 5 day room charge. Then 12% tax and $25 per night resort fee. Total about $1125.

    Yes and yes.

FWIW, I’ve found Wynn/Encore to be quite competitive with regards to comps, lately. During my July stay at Encore, I had significantly more taken off my bill than I did at Bellagio during my April stay there.

At $25-50/hand (I’m assuming blackjack?), getting them to comp half your stay might be a bit optimistic (once you take into account the $200 in freeplay they’re already “giving” you). But, I would certainly think you’d get at least one night, and maybe a litte extra, taken off your bill.

Yes on the BJ play, but I play some craps and $1+ slots as well. Since it's based on average bet vs time, I don't see any benefit going up to $50/$100 per
hand vs 2 to 3 hours play, instead of my normal bets and time. I do like to play a lot and that's why i'm not aggressive with my bankroll. If it were based on perception, I could take the chance once in a while.

If you are dropping five figures than you should be booking with a host there.

You mention playing $1+ slots as well. How much do you play them? If you are mixing in 4-6 hours of table time and several hours of slot play per day then most places will at least give free rooms for that kind of action.

I take a break from the table games once in awhile. It's not additional time, just time not at the tables. The slots that I play are $1, $2 and $5. And a five figure bankroll can be eaten up with $25 to $50 dollar bets, for 4 to 6 hours of play, on a 5 day stay. If a host see's that kind of average bet at high end properties, he doesn't get too exceited about giving out much in the way of comps. That's what happened at the Bellagio.

I don't think your table play will get you much at Wynn, but $1-5 denom slot play - assuming you're putting in the majority of that 4-6 hours at the slots over the tables - is pretty substantial, especially considering the high HA on slots vs. BJ. I would think that level of slot play would be enough to get you a free room, even at Wynncore.

Of course, if you're doing mostly $25-50 BJ and only occasionally hitting the slots at that level, I would actually expect you to generate less of a theo than if it were the other way around.

Regardless, though, I think you really need to take into consideration the cost of everything else [besides the room] - even if, best case scenario, you get your room picked up 100% at Wynncore + some F&B, F&B at Wynncore is generally so expensive that even if some F&B will likely cover much of your meals if you eat on-site most of the time at Wynncore, it could still wind up being a somewhat pricey trip, even with comps - whereas at Trop I'd think a similar level of play would go much, much farther in terms of what it "buys", so to speak.

So I would say it boils down to what's more important to you? Comps? Then Tropicana. Luxury? Wynn. Considering you're comparing two properties that are really on the opposite end of the spectrum price & luxury wise, IMO that's what it really boils down to - since it's not like we're comparing Trop vs. TI or Wynn vs. Bellagio, etc.

    The way I see it...

We all know that if you play at MGM or Caesars Entertainment properties you can rack up comps and receive offers to stay at their multiple resorts.
However if you play at the Tropicana and rack up comps they can only be used at the Tropicana right? Nothing wrong with that except it lacks variety.
If you give Wynn enough business they may comp you. Personally I'd rather stay at Wynn even if it meant no comps just because of the over all experience.
I'm not saying I stay there all the time because I like staying at different resorts up and down the Strip. There are plenty of places I have left on my bucket list.

Not at all. He puts in around 3 hours during the day and then around 3 hours at night. I'm at the pool when he's gambling during the day. We go out to other casinos in the afternoon/evening and when we get back "home" he will play about 3 hrs before bed.

We all like a little luxury in life so maybe I need to go to a quasi merging of two plans. Opt to stay at the Wynn and just play out my limited slot Fantasy there; that way I'll stay on their promotion radar for future offers. Then take my table time to somewhere else like Monte Carlo, Tropicana or the Golden Nugget downtown. Like the Tropicana, the Wynn property isn't affiliated with other casinos, so offers will end up being restricted to his property as well. I find the private properties are much more interested in up front comps when you talk with them. Neither CET or Mlife wanted to do anything other than casino rate for all 5 days. At least Wynn offered $200 FP in his room promotion.

I enjoy the rooms at Wynn and Encore, but them kicking in $200 FP would really get attention. But I like comped/free as well...

I've made trips in the past where I have split my stays to take advantage of different offers. I would consider doing that with these offers. But I would make sure to end the trip at Wynncore.. kinda like ending on a high note.

The first time I was at Encore I loved it. It was the nicest hotel property I had ever stayed in. The Encore casino has a nice intimate feel to it. However the last 2 times I was there to eat were pretty disappointing, both at Stratta and Botero.

I have been checking other sites and reading various opinions, and the number one consistant complaint is: the pool party noise that goes on until 4 am. Two people complained and actually switched properties because of it. (Moved from the Encore to the Wynn towers.) Even at the Wynn, some said they could hear the base thumping all the way to their property. The number two complaint was: all the inebriated young people. Starting from noon on, security is busy escorting them off the property. Some observers said, at times it is/was, almost confrontational. But everyone rated their room and the food there as an exceptional value. Older folks recommended staying at the Wynn to avoid those two problems. Younger people recommended going there because of it.
