Hi Ive never been to Vegas and wondered what Xmas week wiill be like, as that is when I will be visiting. Any tips for a female traveller from the UK? Many thanks Wiffywoo
Christmas is the slowest time in Las Vegas, and we usually visit that time. Room rates will be cheap, comp rooms will be easy, lines will be short. Some (not all) shows will be dark. Some (not all) shops are closed on Christmas day. They will open bright and early for sales on the 26th. Minor annoyance is the endless-loop non-stop Jingle Bell Rock and the like on the casino sound systems, but they seem to have backed off on that a bit over the past few years.
I don't think I would enjoy it solo that week, but the price is right for an extended family thing, particularly if you are not of the persuasion that celebrates Christmas as a high holy day.
The prices have always been so tempting that time of year, but I honestly just can't picture Vegas without pools, sunshine, and dry desert heat for vacation!
You'd be surprised to find a familiar destination with an entirely different character. Sometimes it's nice to rediscover Vegas with a new set of eyes. Makes everything new all over again.
The wife and I lover Vegas around Xmas. We have been going for the last few years and have already booked our trip this year. We will be at Flamingo comped from the 20th to the 23rd. You will like it. I don't think there is ever a time during the year (slow or fast) that anybody wouldn't enjoy Vegas. VIVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It can be a bit slower by vegas standards but that does not mean you will be wandering around empty casinos. It will still seem crowded, just not as crowded as the prime time. It can be a bit iffy on weather but you should have no problem with that. You will notice that right after christmas it will become more and more corwded as people show up for new years. the closer you get the crazier it will become.
Word of caution if you like buffets... most of them tend to have "holiday pricing" and meals that week. All the prices are jacked up like $10 for the week because of the holiday - I think they serve holiday food though -whatever that means. My wife and I have been to LV several times over the break - aside from that and it being a little colder than usual - it's still vegas!
This is my absolute favorite time to be in Vegas...well, that and the 4 days before Thanksgiving and any other days that I'm there! Seriously though, I love going this time of year and we do it every year. It's the quietest time and everything is just a bit more chilled than the rest of the year. Other posters are exactly right about many shows being dark and even some restaurants are closed. We will be there again Dec 19-23 and it will be glorious! I've gone to Vegas by myself before (also female) and no big deal. The eating by oneself isn't that much fun which causes me to do more room service, but everything else is perfect. Have a great time!
I will be in Vegas the week before Christmas I plan to stay at C. Palace for the week and have fun exploring the hotel and other fancy hotels near-by. I am looking foreward to wearing my beautiful winter clothes. I have some beautiful angora sweathers and French caps. Winter boots, gloves, scarfs, and lots of strings of real pearls. Strangers always give me lots of compliments about my angora sweaters. The European lady tourists love to look at me with my beautiful clothes. I travel solo and I notice that if I dress up really nice I get lots of attention and people like talking with me. I am never lonely in Vegas. I get to meet all kinds of people young and old.lol. As far as buffets go, the only time I've ever seen a hiked-up price is on Christmas Day itself, for a special "Christmas Champagne Brunch" or some such, never on the days leading up to it. People here have stated that the lines are longer on Christmas, but the last time we did one of those Special Christmas Brunch things (we usually fly out on the 25th.) there was really no line to speak of. This was at Sam's Town. IIRC the price was not ridiculously high either.
We absolutely love Vegas this time of year, that much so we have spent Christmas/New Year there the past 3 times and will be doing so again this year! We will be travelling from Glasgow on Xmas eve staying for 11 nights at Mandalay Bay you will absolutely love it! As said before youll defo notice it get busier and busier on the lead up to New Year where it will become crazy packed with party goers and very loud but in a good way! A little tip if you fancy eating out on Xmas day, make sure you get somewhere sorted early or be prepared to wait in very long lines at buffets etc. Also on New Years eve wherever you are going it will be crazy busy with restrictions on drinking in the street (no glass bottles, plastic only etc) and also restrictions on coming in and out of certain hotels, basically around 300,000 people visit during New Year and its mental, but again in a good way! You will have a blast, its Vegas!!!
Christmas Time in Vegas My favorite time of the year! Less crowds, crisp cool weather and over the top super-sized Christmas decorations. And the best part is there's no crazy family members to have to deal with cause they aren't invited! :evillaugh NYE 2012!!
i just booked my hotel for christmas week (well only 3 nights)! i actually booked 2 hotels because i can't decide which one to choose.
Add us to the list of posters who love Vegas that time of the year. We usually try to hit town between Christmas and New Years, with enough of a gap that we don't run into the early partiers arriving. The weather is great, the crowds are smaller....the perfect time of year.
One of my favorite "games" during this week is to {f-bomb} with the timeshare dweebs thusly: TSDweeb: Merry Christmas. Me: Happy Hanukkah! TSDweeb: Oh, I'm sorry (or something equally lame) Me: Yeah, I know, we don't look it! TSDweeb: (TILT!) {blank stare}
