Has anyone eaten at Ellis Island Brewery? It seems to have good prices. Is the food good?

Ellis Island is a legendary spot among Vegas regulars. Good food and beer at great prices, and a fun little locals casino. Don't expect anything fancy, more off a hole-in-wall neighborhood bar type of place. We visit at least once every trip.

You should do a search on Ellis Island. They have a steak special for 7.99 that we have ate numerous times without complaint. The hostess is a little unfriendly but she is not a real problem.

Good coupons out there for this place as well.

TX, Ellis Island has a BBQ joint by the brewing area and that may be what you are referring. Very good BBQ but it is small and can be crowded. The coffee shop has the steak special (off menu) that includes one of Ellis' beers. Las Vegas Advisor has coupons for both the BBQ place and coffee shop but I don't know if American Casino Guide has them.

The beer is nothing special (I drink a LOT of beer so I can be a bit snobbish -- if you're a beer geek it will fail to impress).

The BBQ was pretty good and definitely a decent price. There was also some deal (I can't remember all the specific details) where they give you a $15 table match play coupon for a food bill over $40 or something.

There will likely be a bit of a wait, but if you're a gambler you can pass the time playing a few games in the meantime. They'll call your name on the PA and it's a small casino, so it works out pretty well. I probably would NOT bring a family there or a group if they were not happy whittling away some time at a slot machine.

HA! The hostess is definantly unfriendly. We got a good laugh out of here last time being so rude to everyone. It was part of the fun.

We go there at least once every visit. We have never found the waitresses unfriendly. On the contrary, both waiters and waitresses have been very pleasant. - this is in the steak area. The food is good and amazing value.

I think everyone is talking about the hostess at the front that you make your reservation with being unfriendly, not the waitstaff.

I will admit, I have had service issues. One time we NEVER got waited on, so we left. Last time, our server never greeted us, so another guy took guy care of us. He was a bit surly, but at we least got our order. I had to ask for the beer that comes with the special.

Penny, I agree. Ellis' beer is not the greatest micro brew I have ever had but it is not too bad. I think 777 does a better job.

I drink quite a bit of micro brewery beer. I really like Ellis Island beer, I do so because I realize I am paying $2 for it and not $6 or $7 like I normally pay. I recognize that Ellis Island is trying to provide a price point product and I dont grade their products on the scale that I would reserve for higher priced establishments.

I say bravo E.I. for providing a fun alternative to higher priced alternatives!!

I'm from the Northwest, a bit of a beer snob, and like their brew. Is there better? Sure, but not for the price. It's solid.

Steak. Very good for the price, but service leaves much to be desired.

Ribs. Outstanding, but sides so-so. But at the price for ribs, a great deal!

Where's 777? I really haven't had much local brew in Vegas. I did, however, go to the Great Las Vegas Festival of Beer in April which was AWESOME (so many breweries from all over the world, just amazing).

I just saw this on 777's page, I love Saison's, please let it be available in October:
Our newest Brewmaster’s Reserve is a delicate gem. The “Soothsayer Saison” is modeled after what is known as a Belgian Farmhouse Ale.

    Thanks, XmarksX,

I'm staying downtown next week, so I'll give it a try. I love Saisons too.
And to the rest, I didn't knock the beer at Ellis for what it was (drinkable brew served for free if you're playing or cheap if you're paying). It's nice to have something to sip on besides Bud or Corona at the table.

I was just calling a spade a spade in case there were some beer geeks out there that were wondering if this is a must-go place strictly for the beer. I would say No, although there are other reasons to consider trying the place as well (ribs, cheap gambling, fun local vibe).
