We've just started playing Pai Gow Poker this year and are looking forward to getting to Vegas next month to play. Love the game!

Just wondering if anyone has any input as far as table limits, favorite places to play and how the player club points accumulate in the Stations and Boyd properties?

Any other casinos you'd recommend for playing PGP?

Thanks for any tips you can share!

One of the most recent "fun" tables I've been playing at recently is in the Margaritaville casino at the Flamingo. They have a $10 table there, and the cocktail service is usually excellent (and the fact the servers are in bikini tops doesn't hurt either). I don't usually play at the Boyd or Station casinos so I can't speak to their point accumulation, but as a general rule, Pai Gow is one of the worst rated games in the casino. You just don't push enough cash through. That's not to say you can't chat up the pit bosses and play the Emperor Bonus for some extra point accumulation. I also had a good time playing at NY NY and at the Wynn. Every casino has the game, it usually comes down to the availability of cocktail service and if your dealer has a personality. Pai Gow is one of the more communal and friendly games out there, and most places will let you help your partner set their hand, or even ask the dealer to set it the "House Way". A good, personable dealer makes it all the more fun to play, but if you have a dealer with the personality of a prison warden, it makes for a crappy time. My favorite thing about the game is they deal out all the cards regardless if someone is sitting at a position or not, so as people come and go you know you aren't getting the same crappy cards that drove away the person sitting at 3rd base like in Let it Ride or BJ.

Letter_E ~ Thanks for the input! Haven't been to the Margaritaville casino yet, but I'll put that on my list. We normally don't hit the strip too often during our stays there ~ we play a lot of video poker and the pay schedules on the strip are pretty crappy.

That's one of the things I like about Pai Gow Poker ~ you can usually sit there for hours for not too much money, so even if we don't rack up too many points maybe we can get a meal out of them. We'll just play VP to put some points on our cards. :)

I think that the pai gow poker tables at the downtown boyd properties are $10 minimum but could be as low as $5. I think most of them are $10 though. I remember seeing a pgp at the fremont and the cal. Not sure about the MSS.

Not sure if it was a progressive one or not, I forget already.

I play a lot at the Suncoast, they have the fortune bonus $5.00 table and progressive table $5.00. The downtown Boyd properties are $10.00 table.

The D has two table one $5.00 and $10.00. The $5.00 table you can only bet $1.00=$5.00 on the bonus The $10.00 table you have to bet $5.00 or more on the bonus. Being a senoir citizen, I try to go to the D early before the loud music starts. It is horrible, you can't talk to fellow players or the dealers. I think the point of PFP is being social and you certainly can't do that at night at the D.

    4 Queens has $10.00 table.

    Don't know abourt the points.

Thanks, makkikiboy ~ I was hoping there were $10 tables, and $5 tables sound great! Looking forward to playing PGP downtown!

Thanks, Weas! It all sounds good :) We stopped at Suncoast last trip and really liked it, so I'm glad to hear they have $5 tables! We always rent a car so we can go anywhere.

I know what you mean about the noise (we're seniors too :) ) ~ no point in playing tables if you can't hear anyone else at the table (especially the dealer!)

Can't wait to get out there ~ we're at MSS for 4 nts. and Orleans for 2.

I've never not seen a $10 table available at The Orleans and always play a session or two each trip. Dealers can be mixed, sometimes friendly and chatty, sometimes a little standoffish. Never found the pit critters anything other than friendly. Drink service is usually very good.

Always get asked for and hand over my players card but only play low limits so have never bothered to enquire about points, it's a slow game with plenty of pushes so they wouldn't rack up very quick at all though. For me it's what I play when I want to chill out and have a little ''downtime' from hustling a VP machine - the VP racks up the points, PG probably provides the merest trickle lol.

Enjoy, often some good banter to be had.

Thanks, Furry! Good to know about the Orleans ~ We'll be dividing our play between VP and PG as well. Love VP, but sometimes without a few 4oaK it'll gobble up our bankroll. Like you, we'll be using PG as our buffer. We figured that even if we don't continue getting offers because of our lack of points it'll be cheaper just paying for the room than feeding the machines!

Looking forward to some good banter on the PG tables ~ the VP machines aren't very chatty. :)

Wife and I play $5 Pai Gow tables at Suncoast, Silverton, and both Fiestas. They used to have them at Southpoint but now are $10.

Don't get your hopes up too much, I think most (if not all) tables will be $10 minimums. Not sure why not $5, guess they want to keep those games at $10.

Like I said, it will be gravy if you do find $5 tables but don't expect it and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks, Jimbucc ~ We were planning on going to Silverton and Suncoast for sure, so that's good to know!

I love $5 pai gow. But I don't understand how the casino stays alive with it. Assuming 30 hands an hour and a house edge of 2.73%...

    $5 * 0.0273 * 30 = $4.095/hour per seat.

The table can only sit 6 people, so that's $24.57/hour for the table when it's fully occupied. And there's so many pushes that it's hard for people to bust out with even a $50 buy in. After they pay the dealer and the pit super his salary and feed me my 4-6 drinks in that hour, is there anything left over for the house?

That said, it's a dang fun game!

(This doesn't include any bonus, fortune bets, etc.)

I love playing Pai Gow and can play for hours and hours at the $5 tables at Suncoast and Orleans. I have no idea how they rate it, but I would guess it's not much (but they always happily take your card). Even if we're not staying there, we'll always grab the shuttle at Bill's to play at the Orleans. Best of luck!

I suppose that's why they only have one table in most places I've seen ~ but they probably make their money on the bonus bets. I very rarely see anyone playing without a bonus bet down on the table. That's what I like the best!
