Hotel32 - First Timer

Hello again all,

Next weekend, my gf and I are trying out Hotel32 for the first time. We've previously stayed at some of the higher end mLife properties, but I was intrigued by the Hotel32 concept, and a friendly host sealed the deal.

Part of the reason is simple curiosity. I haven't stepped foot in the Monte Carlo in around 10 years, and I'm wondering how or if it's changed. I'm also interested in being somewhat proximal to the sweet spot of the Strip (which for me is Bellagio, Aria, Cosmo, P-Ho), but without being right in the middle of it.

Any tips or advice? Good restaurants? How far to Aria or Cosmo? Table limits? High limit room any good? Should I be in any way looking forward to this?

(Edit: As many will undoubtedly ask... I am not yet certain of the room type. Comped room, so may depend on factors out of my control. Obviously, I'm hoping for the LOFT, so I can come back and rave about it.)

My next trip out in October will be my 3rd consecutive stay at MC due to comps. They have not been in Hotel32 rooms, but I did ask for a peek into one of the Deluxe rooms there. It seemed to be a duplicate of a regular MC room with a nicer bathroom. I love the location of MC. It's attached to Aria with a 2-3 min. walk between them. To get to the Bellagio, you have to go thru Aria, across the circle thru Vdara and then a walkway into The Bellagio. Not horrible, but it's a slight trek. I have never really figured out an easy way to Cosmo. All sidewalks and pedestrian bridges from MC.

We ate at Andre's @ MC last trip & it was very good - old school French, not cutting edge like Robuchon or Guy Savoy - but still very good nonetheless.

And if you enjoy a good whisky or brandy and/or a fine cigar, be sure to check out Andre's upstairs whisky & cigar lounge, even if you aren't interested in eating there.

 

I’ve enjoyed my stays at Hotel 32. The rooms are great (I’ve always been fortunate enough to get a Loft) and there’s a nifty little lounge up there. It isn’t anything special. But, they do put out hot hors d’oeuvres in the afternoon/evening that are pretty good and pastries in the morning. And they always have coffee, cokes and water available which is convenient. Plus the lounge has some great views of City Center. There’s also a “suite assistant” (concierge) up there until fairly late.

Other than Andre’s, The Pub is really the only restaurant that I can whole-heartedly recommend. It isn’t that there’s anything wrong with the other places. It’s just that you’re such an easy walk/tram ride from Aria, Bellagio, Cosmo and MGM with their myriad of great eats – so why have mediocre food, right?

I enjoy the HL room at MC. It is very laid back, almost never crowded and the minimums are low ($100 across the board, pretty much). Plus they have great BJ rules (6D, S17, rsa, surrender, das and 2D, S17, das) and a nice bar in there. If you’re a baccarat player, though, you’ll probably be disappointed – midi is all they offer. The rest of the casino is decent as well – nothing special, but pretty good craps dealers, decent games and very easy to navigate. The sports book is certainly nothing to write home about. But the drink tickets they give you are good for a week (though it is for a “specific week”, like 8/13-8/19, not 7 days from when you get the ticket) and a $10 tip has always netted me more tickets than I am able to use.

The rooms and service up at Hotel 32 are great. And while I think MC is a very underrated middle of the road place, it certainly isn’t anything like a Wynn/Bellagio/Aria etc. So, once you leave the 32nd floor, you’re in a 3-4 star place. Frankly, I think this is as much a positive as it is a negative. Sometimes I just want a really cool room, but don’t want to have to deal with some of the pomposity (and, frankly, clientele) of the top tier places. But, if you want an all around 5-star experience, you may end up being disappointed once you leave the 32nd floor.

Side Question: Out of curiosity, which properties have the big baccarat table? I've played it at the Bellagio, but everywhere else I've been, I've only seen midi and mini. I asked about it at the Mansion recently, and I was told they only bring out a big table on request for the large players - otherwise midi only.

Any others?
