Hugo's Cellar looks old school to me. Maybe if I win a jackpot I'll try it.

Carluccio's was our fave, but it's closed now. Battista's has an old-school vibe, but it's like a lightning rod for those who don't like it.

    Bootleggers is an up-and-coming will-be-old-school-Vegas joint. :)

Golden Steer is a great old school steak house.

The Redwood Bar and Grill in the Cal. Comfortable, good steaks, good drinks and live piano bar.

Next trip I may take Joe's suggestion and give Bob Taylor's Ranch House a try.

Andre's @ Monte Carlo - it may not be as 100% "old school" as it used to be before it was redone a bit a few years back - but it's still probably one of the few remaining places left that really exemplifies the classic French "gourmet room" that was found in every Vegas hotel from the 50's up until the celeb chefs started moving in in the 90's. And the food & service are excellent.

Eiffel Tower restaurant and Hugo's Cellar would also probably fall into the same category - Eiffel tower more towards the cuisine end and Hugo's Cellar more towards the atmosphere end, respectively.

I gave it a try based on recommendations from this board, and the whole experience really just bummed me out (the drive, food, atmosphere, service, bathrooms, parking...). So just a warning that it is not for everyone.

To be candid, high end old school Las Vegas restaurants don't interest me very much. For fine dining I'd much rather eat at Vegas' newer offerings.

For me eating a cheap steak dinner in a tacky cafe while drunk is the quintessential old school Vegas experience. I like the off menu steak special at Ellis Island.

For me, it's Second St Grill - love the circular booths, the fantastic service, the dim lighting. And the fact it's NOT a steakhouse (though you can get a good steak, according to my husband and others we've dined with) I'm not a "steak girl' but I just adore the pan fried snapper they serve!!!

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Bob Taylor's, it was one of our favorites. Never had a bad steak there and OK I guess I can understand if you're used to high-end strip places, this might not be the place and I also understand it is a long drive. But OP did say old school and we always loved the atmosphere, food and service.

I am curious, what was wrong with the parking? Were you expecting valet?

No problem, anything's worth trying once. I'm not a restaurant snob by any means, and I'm always on the lookout for hidden gems.

The weird gate and muddy, slippery gravel lot (it was raining at the time) were the drag about the parking when we went.

Bally's Steakhouse has that "Hunt Club" feel - although I think they've replaced the old hunter green wallpaper from the looks of photos I've seen on the net. Hope they haven't replaced the leather chairs...

The Flame at the El Co

Let me just put my vote in for the Flame at the El Cortez Casino Downtown. You have people working there for 20-30+ years. They do remember your name. Steaks are cooked just right and the price will not break you, rather leave that up to the casinos to take the rest of your cash.

Golden Steer is about as old school cool as it gets IMO. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t quite live up to the setting. It isn’t bad by any means. But, for the price (on par with high end strip steakhouses) there is much better food to be had in Vegas. So, go for the vibe, not the cow.

I'll second The Steakhouse at Circus Circus.
