I am planning a trip in a couple of weeks. It will be our first time staying downtown. We want to try either Oscars or Binions Steakhouse. Which one would you recommend and why? Thanks!

Can't comment on Oscar's but did eat at Binions steakhouse once and it was good, really nice view.

Not directly responsive but I would suggest the Flame or Hugo's Cellar over those options.

Funny- I was going to suggest Triple George or Second St Grill (though not a steakhouse - has very good steak) I enjoy both those restaurants more than Binions, but have not tried Oscars.:peace:

I totally agree with 2nd St Grill and would add Redwood inside The Cal & Flame inside El Cortez.
    So obviously, many choices.

2nd St and Redwood are not ala carte, so keep that in mind when comparing menus.

I have eaten at Oscar's three times now, and had great experiences all three times. It can be pricey, but well worth it.

Hugo's is another solid bet. Romantic atmosphere, best suited for couples. Always a good experience.

Triple George is excellent, and I think the best all around restaurant downtown for lunch or dinner. Vast Menu.

The Flame has fallen so far in quality the last couple years, I would never recommend it. Prime rib is like eating a mudflap. The only thing half decent is the filet, but pales next to the filet at Oscars or Hugo's. Many people get blinded by the price here and fool themselves into thinking it's better than it really is. Any seafood here is pure crap.

Never eaten at Binion's or Redwood (yet), no opinion.

I've eaten at binions and oscars and would recommend Vic and Anthony's over both and by quite a bit... Oscars wasn't impressive, binions has a great view.

just wanted to be another to not really answer your specific question. please consider vic and anthony's at the golden nugget.

i am intrigued by oscar's, hope that you try it and let us know.

i had a perfectly adequate steak dinner at binion's, the view was ok, nothing spectacular or anything to recommend over

    vic and anthony's
    redwood grill
    triple george

i might be in the minority, but i absolutely think hugo's it the most overrated restaurant of any type downtown.

Absolutely love Binions - I have been there twice. Incredible views - go just before sunset and see the lights come on the strip. Wonderful food. Great martinis.

To be fair, I have not eaten at Oscars so i can not compare. I do feel I have pretty high standards. I have eaten in the major steakhouses (Palm, Ruth Chris, Captial Grille, Mortons and Lowry's) around the country and Binions is as good as any. At hte same time, I think that Hugo's Cellar was a major disappointment, living off of its reputation.

Binions doesn't compare to ANY of the steakhouses you listed. They have agreat old school vibe and amazing views, but to be honest with you, the steaks suck. They are surviving on ambiance and a fading reputation.

Vic and Anthonys is the king of downtown steakhouses.... there really is no argument. Second St. Grill is a solid choice. For value, the Flame can't be beat, but their quality is mid-level for downtown.

Actually, if it is a view you're looking for, I imagine Oscar's would have a nice one as well - I ate there back when it was Center Stage and it was so cool to look out the "tunnel" of the Fremont Street Experience and see all the neon hotel & advert signs and to see the light show:peace:

I only at at Vic & Anthony's this summer and I went back again the same trip it was that good.

Some friends of mine love the Triple George and I'll be eating there next year to try it out.

I ate at Binions Steakhouse last summer. We went right as they opened and got a good table w/ a nice view of Downtown. It is definitely an old school steakhouse (dark wood paneling). However, I was unimpressed with my food as a whole (entree - Prime Rib). My wife liked her Filet though.

Would I make an effort to go back? Probably, not.

Flame is now closed on Mondays & Tuesdays.

Ate at Binions one week ago. Prime rib. Good quality. Attentive service. Good house Cabernet (Kendall Jackson). Paid with comps, so felt like it was "free", and makes me less critical.

Now this is very subjective ------
It is VERY quiet there. I very much enjoy that brief interlude of silence & gazing out the window for perhaps an hour. Again, it is not for everyone, but I plan to return again next trip.

Addendum: excellent bread & butter served right away.

    Many Thanks!

Thank you all for your advice. I am still sort of undecided. We were interested in a Downtown Steakhouse with a view. We had decided on Binion's, based on reviews and the fact that it is supposed to have a great view. But then we watched Casino the other night and my husband really loved the scene with Sharon Stone and Robert DeNiro having dinner at the restaurant at the Plaza. He took one look at the shot of the dome and Fremont street view and said that he really wanted to go there. So we most likely will go there. But I am still trying to find out which has the best steaks. I want a view and a good meal. I guess we can try one this time, and one another time.

Hugo's Cellar is hands down the best restaurant downtown. The blue cheese crusted NY Strip is orgasmic. If you go to the half price ticket booth at the Fashion Show Mall you can get a 25% off coupon for $3 per person. Just too good of a deal to turn down.

Had one meal at Binions and didn't care for it. Although that was probably 10 years ago or so.

Redwood Grill was absolutely terrible, food and service, when I went in February. I will never make that mistake again.

Triple George is very good, and they used to be on Restaurant.com, although I'm not sure if they still are.

The Flame is good, but I wouldn't go if I didn't have a restaurant.com gift card.

Haven't tried Oscar's yet, but if that ends up being your choice, let us know what you think.

Is Hugo's a place to go solo or is it typically just couples and familys?

I've always gone as a couple or with a group, but I see no reason why someone couldn't go solo.

Binions has the best Vegas view hands down at least DT. I'd say theyare just as good as the other places talked about. No better but just as good and yes, old Vegas style. Have to do Binions once and try for a hour before sundown and then take your time.

Funny, it's my wife's favorite restaurant downtown and we have always have been happy with food and service. One thing though, we always make it point to say we don't want Brian as a server. Lets just leave it at that.

Second Street Grill is my favorite, but my wife usually controls the dining choices, so last few trips the dinners have been at either Redwood or Pasta Pirate. PP actually has some pretty good, reasonably priced food. I enjoy the $18 scampi. All meals include soup or salad, a glass of house wine & fresh bread. It's also cool to watch the chefs work over the grill in the center of the room.

Ours is a comp, but I'm just saying.
