I've has this for a long time. Thought i'd post it again. All the Strip hotels in photos as well as room prices, and gaming statistics broken down. This is 1975 and you'll notice that the Hotel properties were basically by themselves, definitely needed a car, taxi, or bus to get from one hotel to another:

The first year we went to Las Vegas was 1976, we stayed at westward ho.
The casinos were in clusters, and there were big areas between the clusters so having a car was very nice. We drove from Norman, OK out first trip.

    "The Gauntlet"
    1977 movie w/ Clint Eastwood -
He travels from Vegas to Phoenix in the movie.
You see some of both those towns -- circa 1975 --
    when they were just TOWNS.:nworthy:

My first trip was in 1969---We stayed at the Flamingo. I remember walking up the Strip at night going to a Frank Jr show at the Frontier and seeing Tumbleweed blow across the intersection where the Fashion Show Mall is now. Looking out beyond the Strip all you saw was desert. That was the time to buy land.

Thanks waverunner for posting this. Very nostalgic. Looking at these pictures brought back some wonderful memories - walking from the Flamingo to the Tropiciana to see the Folies Bergere show. Once you pasted the Aladin, there was absolutely nothing until you hit the Tropiciana. Same trip, we went into the Sands with coupons for free coffee mugs and to play their .10 cent slot machines. Fast forward a few years and we were in Vegas when they imploded the Dunes Hotel - so many great memories.

Vegas sure has changed - but then, so have we!

Yea, we stayed at MGM (now Ballys) in 1976. I forget how much open area existed then. I remember that we were able to park alongside the hotel at least half the time. Times have changed.

The first time I visited Las Vegas (mid 1970s) we parked on the street right outside the El Cortez. Next year we parked right by our rooms at the Stardust, in the old motel section.

Thanks for the link. Always interesting to check out the old shots of Vegas and see just how much as still desert at the time. I would have loved to spend one evening from this era just to see what my favorite town was truly like then.

Great pictures of classic Vegas. My father would of loved to see pictures from that time frame. I looked around at that site and saw the room rates in 1976, I found it funny to see I am paying less for a room today than back in that era.

The fact that Circus Circus looks the exact same says a lot about the property

The Sahara Hotel looked just like this when we stayed there in 1957 - and the neighborhood was about like that too:

Super interesting. The most expensive hotels were Hilton, Caesars, Tropicana, and Riviera. Three of those can pretty much be stayed at for the same prices today, almost 40 years later.

In the 1973-74 bear market, LV gaming revenues were growing by double digits. They called it gambling back then.

The theme of "huge ugly parking lot in front of the hotel" is long gone, but you could still find it even at Caesars until about 10 years ago.

    Thanks for posting.
