I had business in Ohio so a buddy/co-worker of mine drove to Cleveland after I was able to get three nights comped at the Ritz, one of the three hotels that have a relationship with Horseshoe Cleveland. In fact they might all now be owned by the guy who's partnered with CET on the casino, same guy that owns the Cavs.

The hotel was exactly what you'd expect from a Ritz. Very clean, bed was incredibly comfortable, service excellent. They have a restaurant in the hotel we never made it to unfortunately.

Going in I had lowered expectations after reading some reviews and since it is a temporary location in a former department store.

The casino is smallish and definitely narrow as others have posted on travel sites. The craps tables were packed so I played some three card poker and helped the newbie dealer out with some of the payoffs and things which I didn't mind. Cocktail order-takers with iPads were everywhere so it wasn't too difficult to get a drink.

I didn't play poker but the poker room looked nice enough and was packed the few times I went upstairs to check it out.

Have heard that the machines are tight but I think that's normal for a new place?

Dealers were very friendly as was other casino staff.

I will be returning in October during another work trip to see how things have changed for better or worse.

Thanks for the mini-report! Just to clarify, the Horseshoe Cleveland is a permanent location. While initially it was going to be temporary, a deal was struck with the state government whereby the Horseshoe is "Phase I" of a two phase project. Phase II is going to be larger and all new construction, which I believe is starting sometime in late 2012. There are also rumors that Phase II will be branded differently.

Thanks for that clarification, I guess the locals that I was talking to weren't as knowledgeable on the subject as you are. Appreciate the update.
