I haven't been to Vegas in 11 years. Living in Florida it is easier for me to get to Biloxi, so I get there as often as my vacation time will let me. I'm more like a guppy than a whale but got what I thought was a great offer from Mlife. Three nights in any MGM property and 2 tickets to LOVE. I like to stay and play at one hotel since I don't get around as much as I used to so decided to stay at the Mirage. I wanted to stay 4 nights just because of the time change and wasting almost a full day in travel. When I called "VIP Services" I spoke to a very customer unfriendly person who told me if I wanted 4 night I would have to pay for the first one and the other 3 would be free. Of course I'm arriving on a Friday so that is the most expensive night. I've done this several times at the Beau Rivage and they charge me for the last night - which I usually call down and get comped based on my play that trip. I refused to pay the weekend price so ended up booking Fri 10/12 - Mon 10/15 . I understand there is no low season in Vegas but wouldn't they want me there for 4 nights in October? Should I call back and see if I get a more reasonable agent to extend one night, wait until I arrive and try to add a day or just book somewhere else for the last night? I would hate to move hotels for just one night but I'm stubborn. I would appreciate any sage advice. Thanks!
Call back. I’ve found that Mlife service reps vary in competence by a great deal. I’ve had a few like the one that you spoke with. But I’ve also had several that were very friendly and helpful and have done quite a bit to “work with me”. Plus, now that you have a reservation, it may be easier to just book a separate one for the fourth day.
In the past I found they would have me pay for the cheapest night but I wonder if they've had a policy change at Mlife. I find now when I try and book an extra night it's always the weekend they want me to pay for. Even if I try and do this through a host.
You can call and ask if they can do anything. Maybe a different person would be better. I always had nice people on the phone. I have also paid for a room when I do not have any history, then ask for the charges to be taken off of before I leave.
If you know your play will get you all 4 nights comped, why bother? Just take the 3 nights offer and "pay" for the first night. They wont charge you till you check out anyway.
Just call and play dumb and say that you wanted to extend your vacation by one day and would like to know what the cost would be. Maybe a different agent will give you a different answer. If it's too much just say oh geez I hate to change hotels on my last night but I got a better offer at XXXX.
That's odd. I recently called into Mlife to take advantage of a 3 night offer at the Mirage over Labour day weekend. I'm staying for 6 nights and they gave me the 3 most expensive nights comped. But the person on the phone was very nice and helpful. It's the same as dealing with any company, sometimes you will get a helpful employee and sometimes you will get a disinterested employee or an employee having a bad day. Just try again.
Book the three now with the offer before it goes away. Call back in a few weeks and see if you can add a night on the back end of your current/existing reservation. You may even get it free. You could also say screw it, and book across the street at Harrahs, or Venetian. I would NOT pay for the first night.
Or you can "decide" to add a 4th night once you're there on your last night. Since Friday and Saturday have passed by that time they'll have to charge you the midweek rate.
I agree with this. Once you get the quote for the 4th night (or get it offered free), you can decide what to do. You already have the most expensive nights locked in on the comp. If you get quoted a rate you think is reasonable, go play and see if you can get it comped on the back end. I think a real VIP Services rep should have the info available on their screen to offer you a 4th comp night if it's warranted. If you don't get that 4th night offered on your next call, then it would seem like your play history is coming in a little under the threshold. Doesn't mean you won't be able to get it comped on the back end.
I agree about the varying competence. On past stays, I've heard three different interpretations of policy from three different reps. I'd try again. In the past, I've
Should have read: In the past, I've been told certain dates were "blacked out" for comp stays, because of an event like a title fight (at Mandalay Bay), but I doubt the Mirage has anything like that going on. A second call has resulted in a comped room being available to me.
Thanks all Thank you all for the insight. I really don't mind paying for 1 night but I do mind paying for the most expensive night. I will call back to see if I get a friendlier agent. If they don't comp it at least I can decide if I want to use any pts earned or take the credit card points. This was my first post and I'm really impressed with the prompt and kind responses. Thanks again!
Update I had my reservation confirmed for the 3 nights comp and finally called back to add the extra night. I did get someone who a bit more cooperative and gave the the casino rate for Monday night at 127. That is much better than my first VIP rep who told me I had to pay full price for the Friday night of 189 and the others will be free. Hopefully I will do well enough that they will either comp the last night or I will win so much I won't even hesitate paying for it! Thanks to all for your advice.
