I can't believe it, but I don't mind resort fees anymore

Yep, I was dead set against them, but after a week between Aria and Mirage, I don't mind paying the resort fee. Cleanliness, no nickel and dimeing for in room safe, wifi, did I mention cleanliness? Being Canadian (so no US data) the wifi is super helpful for staying in contact with the kids while away. Not to mention staying up to date with the rest of the world. It also seems like MGM seems to keep things running a bit smoother as well. Not letting everything get to beyond the point of worn out, ie. Paris ballon, Ballys fountains, Flamingo carpets. I guess bottom line is I'm willing to pay a bit extra just to maintain what I'm used to. I had wanted to try PH again on that trip instead of Mirage, but even with the resort fee I couldn't get it for the same price. And for equal price, the wifi and guarantee of a nice room meant I would stay at Mirage.

I can see that. If you feel you get your moneys worth an nothing is hidden that is what counts

Seriously, paying the resort fee got you a clean room. OK, just stick with that story.

I totally agree. I get value out of the services and the maintenance of MGM properties has always been superior to Caesars, maybe that will change with the LINQ and some upcoming renovations. The FAB room refresh/renovation is a joke compared to what was done at Mirage and what is currently being done at Bellagio and MGM Grand.

Ya, because I paid the fee they went straight up to my room and cleaned it special for me. That's exactly what I meant.

I've always defended the Resort Fees. If that's what it takes to keep the doors open then so be it.
They have a right to turn a profit and an obligation to their employees, lenders and shareholders to do so.
You can't really complain when you are comp'd a 3-5 star Hotel Room for your entire stay.
And loosing at the tables doesn't count sorry. They did not twist your arm to stay and play there.
I don't know of any other industry that does that! So putting it in that context (ONLY) what's a piddly $20 a day fee?

IMHO, there's nothing wrong with a resort fee EXCEPT that the main reason for it is to mislead people when comparison shopping for rates.

The resort fee itself has ZERO to do with a clean room.

But, if collecting that helps the mgmt run things better, including hotels in better shape with better cleaning, then fine. Heck, you can go to Mandarin and get a really nice place, which of course is part of why they charge more.

For those of us that use internet, it is almost a wash.

As to "sneaking" that fee in, it sucks. A room rate should be a room rate. Just charge it up front.

    Surely you jest.

..........Probably didn't need to CAP that, as the OP already commented on the follow-up.

This 100%. I don't mind paying it but the tactic of hiding costs is not cool in my book. They should really just increase the room cost and call it a day.

Meh, I'm indifferent. I've stayed at places with resort fees, without. Bottom line, I'm not going to let an additional $75 determine where I stay for a 3 night stay. As far as being "sneaky"....it's not that hard to google whether the hotel in question has a resort fee prior to booking. Do 5 seconds of homework and there's no surprise.

And to think the colonists were upset having to pay a messily tax on tea! It sounds like some folks have already been assimilated. Resistance is futile!

An extra $25 a night means something to me.

I look forward to the days of bigger and better resort fees, when Vegas casinos cross the $50 per night threshold and beyond!!!!!!

Perhaps a mandatory $100 per night minimum room snack bar purchase requirement. This should cover at least two beers and a bag of pretzels.

I would also be thrilled with a mandatory $500 per night prepaid non-refundable resort credit charged to the room. Guest can use their $450 ($50 processing service charge per signature) to sign at resort spas, gift shops or certain restaurants.

More Resort Fees = More Fun

One of the highlights of booking with Virgin directly over here in a hotel and air package combined is that the resort fees are waived / paid for by Virgin. So not only do I have a direct flight from the UK, but no resort fees to pay when I get to Vegas.

I think losing at the tables does count, actually I think that is all that counts. Next time you get a COMP room, call them up and tell them you have quit gambling and see what say about your future COMPS.

I'm a huge internet user so the fee hasn't been a bother for me as it is for other folks. I just wish they'd expand the amenity list and maybe allow you to pick and choose what you got for the fee (i.e. newspaper every day, bottles of water every day, gym use, etc.)

I don't find the costs to be hidden; websites like this identify the fee ahead of time and you can just do the math when comparison shopping

Most of the complaints about it being hidden is for those who use Expedia, Travelocity etc. They have gotten better, but in the beginning sometimes there were not disclosed until check in/out.

I see why people are upset, but I guess I'm just a victim of the Vegas mentality when it comes to parting from my money. It's Vegas. Things are expensive. I don't get worked up about paying $11 for a #3 at the airport. Or $22 bucks for 2 slices of pizza and 2 sodas at Cosmo. Maybe I should shame on them for charging the resort fee and not including it in their price, but I just don't let it upset me.

but wouldn't it upset you if your advertised as $22 dollar two slices and two sodas came with a mandatory unadvertised $2 dollar per cup "cup fee" and a $2 dollar per person "plate fee"

I mean because after all the $22 dollars just pays for the actual slice of pizza and the actual soda......not the cups to hold the sodas in or the plates for the pizza......and if you want to sit at a table that is free, but there is a mandatory unadvertised $3 dollar "chair fee" as well...and no you can't do like in "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" and say "F the cup just pour it in my hand for a dime" and then just hold the pizza in your hand and stand at the tables

that is the issue it is blatant false advertising since they will not let you decline the "resort" amenities and only take the room.....so it is a part of the cost of the room period and should be included in the cost of the room period
