My high school Class of 1982 has decided to come across the country to gather in Las Vegas for a 30 year reunion. We have already decided that we want to find a place downtown to host it. My question is where is a place that we can reserve for just a few hours and with nothing more than beverage service? We dont need anything formal and dont feel we need to organize a meal even. We need a place where 40 to 100 people can gather and socialize for a few hours is all. We have already started to book rooms downtown but dont have any other plans set in stone other than a date in November. Any suggestions?

    sounds like a fun class!

brewpub at main street station would be a good option.

the brewpub at four queens only if you could book it for your group only, because you would just about fill it up.

the grotto at golden nugget has a seating area, right across a pedestrian hallway from the bar and rest of the restaurant. that separate area looks out onto the pool, might be a way to have a dedicated area for your group, but still be close to the service of the bar.

    Thanks Kitson

We have been in touch with the Golden Nugget and have a block of rooms reserved there already. I believe they offered us the Grotto but for a pretty penny. I dont think they understand what little service we are asking from them. We just want drinks, and lots of them! I'll probably check out the Brewpubs... I even thought about reserving Benny's Bullpen in Binions... as sad as it is to even go into Binions anymore the Bullpen is a nice place and closed off and more private, although it may be too small... Anyone else have any suggestions? We want no meal.... just drinks

You might want to talk with MSS about that social club or whatever it is between the hotel/casino and the parking garage. Another option would be once you know how many people are attending would be to rent a suite or two at a hotel downtown and host your own party. If you have any high rollers in your class who play downtown their host might be able to help you out.

The Plaza has banquet rooms on the third level. They can make them small or giant by sliding some walls. Might be worth a call. I know that the locals use them a lot for different functions. There's also a bar up there that they open when it's busy.

    Thank You RC

I'll look into options at MSS. We talked about getting a couple suites but wondered if the hotel would object citing fire code concerns over the number of people in the rooms... and how to let all the classmates know what specific room number to come to

40-100 is such a big spread.
40 might work at 777 Brew Pub at Main Street and beer, wine, & rail drinks are all $2 during 3-6 PM happy hour. M-F but not during Mon night football.

Their Social Club is a separate building and then you are probably going to pay a room fee, catering fee etc, but if you get 50+, I don't know if you have too many options.

I assume you'll be doing a RSVP and maybe when you get a more precise number there will be more suggestions.

Triple George and/or Sidecar (sidebar? whatever their cocktail lounge is called)

Do Mickey Finnz/Hennessey/Drinkg & Drag at Neonopolis have private function rooms? As "bars", maybe cheaper than a hotel room rental?

Don't know what your target price is, but for that size group I'd take a look at the Downtown Cocktail Room. They offer group event pricing and it's a cool space. See their private parties page for info.

    Mob Bar.

This is a good suggestion. Most place however will expect a minimum spend to reserve space. Depending on the time of day you might just be able to take over somewhere like Rush lounge at the Nugget. Also look at the bars on Fremont east.

Ah - that's definitely a new name to go with the Mob Museum - it used to be Sidebar (for the lawyers who work at the courthouse nearby?) I think.....

At the Cal, there is a nice meeting room on the second floor. It is close to the sports book & Dave's Bar.

I have seen lots of class and family reunions there. Most are from Hawaii.

Several times, I have seen photographers there.

I suspect that the Cal would be more economical than the Nugget.

Good suggestion. Cost probably similar to the Social Romm at MSS, but we have had slot tournaments banquets in the Ohana (sp?) room and they have been very nice.

A second vote for the upper level at Plaza. Lots of privacy, space, lounging areas and things nearby like Oscars for dining and games.

    Lots of great ideas!

Thanks for all of the suggestions and please, keep them coming! I was going to come out there in July and check around but my plans changed and am not sure if I will get there before November to collect information and finalize anything so all of your help is greatly appreciated. I'll pass the ideas along to the committee and get busy calling places... Any more ideas?

    Thanks

I have seen lots of parties at the ohana room at the cal (reunions, etc.). I have seen some parties at the room at MSS that is connected to the parking lot. There is also a former restaurant at the MSS (by the front desk and elevators) that might be able to hold you. I would suspect it costing more than the room in the MSS parking lot.

You can also check with the LVC, there was a second floor lounge area (looking over the former sports book and more recently bingo room) that was used for karaoke and get togethers. I would think they might be hard up for money and might allow your reunion up there.

Wasn't there a 2nd floor area at the Fitz (now D)? I remember people in there looking out at the FSE. For that matter, isn't there a lounge at the GN on the second floor?

Don't remember if the fremont had an upstairs room for parties. You may want to contact all the downtown hotels to see what they have available and how much. There is probably an area at binions on the 2nd floor that could be used for get togethers. I think it is a matter of cost for many of them, I know the GN would be costly. Since the plaza went "upscale" it might be more expensive to hold something there but I would probably check with all the places mentioned to see what they have and how much it will cost.

All great ideas! Keep them flowing please. I do know that the planners check into what the Golden Nuggett offers and yes, it is quite expensive given the fact that we dont want alot of service... just a good bartender and alot of cold beverages. I'll have others on the planning committee read on this thread and we can start checking around. Aw heck, maybe I should just head out there and take care of this myself, lol. I think it's a great excuse! Anyways, Keep up with the great ideas!

That is the Pullman and I have never seen a private party in there since they closed. Seems to be just a staging area for the Hawaii flights that Boyd runs.
