it seems like every trip ive gone to atleast 2 CGs pull this really annoying move.

i tip the girls atleast $2 first drink and $1 every other drink (keep in mind i drink beer and Long Islands my girlfriend doesnt or rarely drinks so when she orders anything its either water, juice, or blended virgin drinks)

lately i noticed CGs serving you your drink and standing behind you waiting for another tip.

at MGM i ordered a coors light and my lady ordered a pina colada virgin. The CG repeated the order and walked back. She comes back with drinks i give her $2 and the colada was stiff as hell. Whens she comes back we order the same VIRGIN COLADA AND COORS, she repeats the order, comes back i give her $1 and the same outcome...3rd trip i ask her "the coladas had alcohol in them, she replies very snarky "yeah rum...." she goes back and brings me my coors and i decide not to tip she stands behind me for a good 15 seconds waiting for whatever very annoying. hey i get it ur a cocktail girl in vegas you dont make much money and your work off tips, BUT also understand im at a quarter dog racing machine so im no High Roller.

i would understand at downtown (dont mean to sound mean) but even then. At Labayou they serve beer in a small plastic cup probably not even half a beer and again my girl drinks juice. At that place i tip $1 every other drink plus my girl orders juice every other trip aswell but theres 2 girls that just stand behind us waiting for a tip.

And come on i get it im getting liqour at a massive discount but at the same time im pumping money into the machines ... granted im playing 25 - 60 cents a spin but still. The first few trips i took i usto tip $1 every other drink and now i understand that pretty cheap of me to do but back then i didnt have these girls waiting for tips so now ive changed my tipping habits and i get the opposite.

    anyone experience this???

I have never had a CW sit and wait for a trip. In fact I usually have to say hold up, you forgot your tip.

i haven't seen this one, but i've definitely felt the "tip stare" many times. everybody wants a handout these days. however, i wish i could tip a dollar per drink. i only order water and i have to tip at least $5 because they don't have $1 chips at the table. so i always order 2 at a time, but $5 for 2 Fijis is a ripoff.

With that you pretty much answered your own question.

If they just drop off a drink and them immediately take off and zoom away if somebody isn't waving a dollar at them then they are only costing themselves money in the end.

Since it is unlikely she has the power to read minds she must rely on more mundane methods like lingering for a few seconds to see if you are going to dig in to your pocket for a tip or not :) :) :)

    You could:
    a) Ask the waitress for change back
    b) Carry some $1 bills on you (you can break a $5 or $20 bill down to small denomination bills at a TITO machine)
    c) Buy $1 chips at the casino cage

Maybe, just maybe, she is actually working or doing something else and just happens to be standing behind you while she is doing it.

I play the sigma derby at mgm too and have seen countless people tip with coins for 2 drinks. I have also seen the cw turn tell them no thanks, i have enough coins.

    I loved that line.

I got into a fist fight with a worlds strongest man competitor when he tried to give her some coins once but that story is for another thread.

If you can't afford to tip $1 a drink you shouldn't go to Vegas. That's it. If service is good the minimum is a $1. Stop being a cheapskate. Win or lose you tip that waitress unless she is awful.

I tell any first timer I'm with in Vegas, if you don't have money for a tip you don't order. Even a low roller at the Sigma Derby should know that. We were all low rollers at some point in my crew but even when we were snot nosed 21 year old punks with $500 weekend budgets we knew to tip!

I am glad to be reading this info. because....

I only order a coke when I am at the slot machines. I tip with coins.
If a cocktail waitress ever tells me that she has enough coins. I plan to report her to one of the managers for being rude to me.

I think people should just give them a tip that you consider a good tip if you are planning to keep ordering drinks while you are playing.
If people are big time drinkers then they should tip more money so they can keep getting their drinks faster.

I tip a dollar when I order a glass of water at some bar. I get real thirsty in
Vegas and I need to drink lots of water. It is nice getting a plastic glass filled with lots of ice and water. I always say thank you and they know that I am greatful for the water. Lucy

    Couldn't agree more.
Generally these girls work pretty hard, surely a dollar a drink is manageable.

Surely anyone frequenting this board accepts that $1 is a minimum CW tip. Minimum $1 per drink. So a drink for me and my wife/partner/friend is minimum $2 tip. Handing out $1 for 2 drinks will leave any CW disappointed or frustrated.

shifter - $5 tip for 2 bottles of Fiji in the high limit rooms sound like good value to me. I have always thought of $5 being the absolute minimum tip in the HL rooms.

Agree on all accounts. $1 per drink on the main floor, $5 per drink in the HL rooms.

And, whether a drink has booze in it or not does not change the amount of work the CW has to do, nor does it change how much space the drink takes up on her tray.

We have never tipped less then $1 PER DRINK....most times $3 for two drinks......

If I was your cocktail waitress and you short tipped me, well then you are going to WAIT A LONG TIME for your next drink....it's that simple.

Like many others, I've hung out with people that are bad tippers. Or even worse - no tippers. And it ends up costing me more money because I feel obligated to make up the difference. If you know that you're receiving service from a person who works for tips, and you don't tip, then you're a jerk. Go home.

If you've got an issue with the service you've received, then explain what is wrong and tell the person they'll get a tip once they've brought you what you asked for. Give them a chance to make it right. A very simple solution.

to the OP there are two issues here

    1. you got EXTREMELY poor service not once, but twice.....what kind of buffoon cocktail waitress brings a stiff colada not once, but twice when a virgin was ordered....sounds like a great way to serve someone with a health condition alcohol

    2. after being ask about making the wrong drink TWICE they were rude to you....I would have reported them specifically because it seems as though they don't care about their job and from the point of view of the casino a virgin drink should be slightly cheaper.....this waitress sounds like a idiot and in need of a fast food job or something similar

to some of the other answers I read on a blog for a cocktail waitress in Vegas that there are two systems (actually 3) for waitresses and tips dealing with the IRS

one system is the casino and the waitress sign a form that says the waitresses is expected that they will be delivering X amount of drinks per hour and then the IRS figures out with their formula how much income that will generate in tips for the waitress and she is taxed from her check accordingly....the second system is that the waitress and casino sign a form that says the casino will track each and every drink delivered by the waitress (with the card swipe machine) and then the IRS will use their formula to calculate how much a tip will be per drink and then deduct those taxes from the waitresses check

the third "formula" is that the waitress says they are not going to sign either of those and they will take care of the taxes and tip calculation on their own.....the IRS has a special "probe" they use in cases like this I believe and it will not be pleasant....and you can expect to "get it" every year and more than likely it will be something along the lines of what waitress served the most drinks or paid the most taxes on that property so you owe that.....never mind you worked half as much as they did during horribly slow hours

also as was said before a drink is a drink when it comes to taking up tray space so a water or coke or any other drink to a waitress takes up the same space as any of the fanciest cocktails take up and since the waitress does not cover the cost of the drinks (usually) it makes no difference to her what is on the tray

there are exceptions to the "usually"......at some pools and some similar setups the waitress will in fact cover the cost of the drinks and then she will be paid back when she delivers them (plus a tip hopefully).....so if someone at a pool party is ordering crazy drinks that no one else will want to drink and then wandering off and not being there when the server arrives at their cabana or blanket or whatever at best the server has to find a manager and have the drink comped back to her account and the idiot can expect to never get another drink order taken.....at worst the idiot can expect the manager to go and try and hunt them up to pay for the drink and then if they are still an idiot they might be tossed from the property after possibly paying for their drink.....if someone is just ordering beers or something standard then the waitress will turn around and just sell it to someone else and then you can expect to never get service again for the rest of the time at the pool

also in casinos and at pools ect there are drinks that the cocktail waitress has to make herself the bartender does not make them.....coffee, hot chocolate, some juices, and a few others the waitress actually makes so many people think "oh I am just getting coffee or hot chocolate" that is cheap and easy well it is cheap, but it is still space on the tray and it is actually a drink the waitress had to do extra "work" to prepare because the bar tender does not make those drinks

I will also personally say though there is nothing I hate worse than fishing for tips that is the sign of a very poor server....I hate the fact that service in this country has become so Pavlovian where the service staff expects a scooby snack each and every contact with the people they are serving and if they don't get it they will cry and get upset and start to deliver bad service....bad service will surely never get me to up my tips because bad service is bad service.....I think there are some waitresses that you could give them $100 dollars for a first coke and then three hours later if you ordered a second coke they would cry and fish for a tip if you did not give them at least a dollar.....I mean really the $100 before that I KNOW you remember can't at least carry you over until next time

waitresses seem to think these days that there is just no chance someone will get three cokes from them over 4 hours and then give them a $20 when the leave.....true maybe they won't give them anything or maybe they will not cross paths again to get that $20, but copping an attitude and delivering bad service surely won't help the situation

sure it is easiest to just think ahead and have singles on you and give one or two each time, but people have wives, kids, gambling habits, forgetful memories and all kinds of other things where maybe right then and now they don't have a single on them or a 5er and they WILL make it up the next time (true many won't) but I don't believe for a minute that delivering bad service, standing there for a minute fishing for a tip, or going off in a huff will make that person want to "make it right" the next time

I did not drink all throughout college.....there must have been a dozen or more times when a waitress would bring several drinks to friends all made just as ordered and then "forget" my coke....it became a running joke to my friends an often THEY were the ones that stepped in and made the waitress and her poor attitude return to get one coke and then she wondered why mizz tuddie did not get a tip after that....yet she still had to come back because my friends were power drinkers and good tippers......she would usually remember the coke after that though...and if not more laughs from our table and more foot stomping by her and declining tips from my friends...

I think the only more gauche habit that service staff has developed is the "do you want change" comment after taking the bill folder from a table.....yea I had a pizza and three cokes and I put a $1,000 bill in there and you did not even look to see.....but yea keep the change :rolleyes2: :rolleyes2:

anyone with an ounce of common sense and decorum knows the PROPER thing to say is "I will return with your change" at which time the patron can reply "no thank you please keep the change".....even if it is $1,000 for a pizza and three cokes

I am anxiously awaiting a new thread on this please....thank you in advance

and my advice is next time hit them over the head with that six pack of cheap beers you are always carrying around :evillaugh

Sorry, but there is no minimum, no maximum, sure most seem to tip a buck, but that in way means everyone should. If the service is unreasonably slow, rude, or indifferent, no tip can be warranted.

There are plenty of people that tip more than a buck a drink, that makes up for the occasional stiff or cheapskate.

Cocktail waitresses are well aware that tips probably wont be as good at micro slots vs high end ones, etc, just as they are well aware that some groups (foreigners and unmentioned others) are generally poor tippers.

Tipping is a personal decision and no one here has the right to judge others habits, that being said, if your objective is free drinks you should toss them something, or they might not be back.

Fair enough. I tip a buck a drink, and occasionally throw a fiver in there, if the service is good, or they are really nice. When I get a good server, she is well compensated with 5's most rounds.
