If we check in at MB and are offered an upgrade to THEHotel, should we take it? I was looking at the map and MB elevators are closer to everything we are interested in. We have booked the basic smoking Deluxe room with two beds - is there anything else available with smoking/2 beds, if I did the $20DT?

If TH is spectacularly better than MB, I would love to hear the opinions of others.

Can anyone recall the brand of soap/shampoo at MB or TH?

I've read a lot of TA reports and there are often big complaints about MB, esp the elevators and housekeeping. Then again, there are just as many people raving about it. We don't intend on using the beach.

Are the CWs as hard to find as some TR's say?

    Any information or opinions appreciated!

I would stay in TheHotel over the main MB hotel in a heartbeat. I won't stay at MB anymore unless I am in TH or Four Seasons. It is night and day a better experience. The place isn't monstrous like MGM - so while there is a slightly further walk, you just eat that up, at the cost of the better hotel.

Sorry can't give details on the brand of soaps used, been a while for me :)

Would have loved the Four Seasons (Bulgari or L'Occidental soap - I called the hotel to check it out and you can have a choice!) but travel pal is a smoker.

Off to read up on TH!

L'Occitane or Bulgari at Four Seasons - while both are nice, I prefer the Bulgari scent.

FWIW, I've never had a problem with CW service at MB casino.

I have been going back and forth between MB and TH and I prefer TH hands down. The feel of TH overall feels like a better value than MB and the elevators work a heck of a lot better.

THEHotel uses Gilchrist and Soames (sp?) products.

I don't think they use the Gilchrist & Soames products anymore in THE hotel. They weren't in the room when I checked in 2 weeks ago or the week before that.

If your choice is between a regular room at MB and a regular room at THE hotel, hands down go for THE hotel.

The minimum size of the suites at TH are 750 SF and they are 2 rooms minimum. They also have 1 1/2 bathrooms in each basic suite.

I've liked my experiences at THEhotel very much! It's really not that out of the way. The rooms are HUGE. It's worth it just for that. It's nice having a living room and an extra 1/2 bath.

Regular Mandalay is nice too, but the elevators were kind of a pain because everyone is going to the beach, which is a level lower than the casino. I felt like it always took extra long to snag one going UP.

But I'd stay in either in a heartbeat, and I think THEHotel is a little step up if you get upgraded

I wanna say the toiletries are BATHE brand..?

The BATHE label is made by Gilchrist and Soames. I brought up our conversation to my gf and she had a bottle of the shampoo I was able to look at from our last trip in January.

That WAS true up until earlier this year.
They used to have BATHE. I thought it was really good quality shampoo, lotion, soap etc.. My favorite was the little BATHE foam shoe polisher. I loved those things!

Now on our last trip (to THEHotel) earlier this month all the stuff was "THEHotel" brand. Obviously MUCH cheaper products! We asked what the deal was and it turns out they switched all their products and dropped the BATHE label. Housekeeping admitted the new products were cheaper. I was pissed, heh!.. I really wanted a new foam shoe polisher! :)

The shampoo and soap they have in the room makes or breaks nothing for me. Even if they offered none of these amenities, I would still take THEHHotel.

I dont think they offer smoking rooms on the high floors. You would most likely be on floors 5-12 with no view.

I know I must sound crazy but I smoke a pack a day in LV but I would never want to smoke in my actual room. Even at 750+ sq feet and two rooms, it's just too small of an area to be filling with smoke. Just my opinion, do whatever you want...

I can not imagine standing at MB checkin and an offer would come up to have you walk across the casino to thehotel. Only if they were sold out I guess.??

That sucks. I was at TH last Sep. and loved the Bathe brand. I still have some of the hand cream and it always reminds me of the trip. I am going back in Sep and sorry to hear they changed it. I remember you could buy a big bottle of shampoo and soap at The Store, and I was sorry I didnt'. I guess I won't be buying any this trip either.

Oh well, The Hotel is still a great place no matter what!!

I have read some trip reports where clients were bumpted to TH so I was just asking, in case that happens to us. Be prepared!! ;)

Sorry to hear they have downgraded on their bath amenities - to me that is one of the joys of the trip. The Royal Playa del Carmen has Bulgari Green Tea soaps etc and we once had a great time wheedling White Tea soap from the maids at the Ritz.

Re the smoking in the room, I am not a fan of it but I am travelling with a smoker - this is where a balcony would come in mighty handy. Never heard of anybody going to Vegas for the fresh air, though!

I am looking forward to trying Border Grill, and the happy hour at House of Blues. Are there any other happy hours in the hotel you would recommend?

Would love to go to Fleur and just have an entire meal of desserts!

I smoke. A few times they didn't have a smoking room available for me at check in they have always said "We will send up ashtrays for you".

Who stays at the Mandalay Bay? Or I guess, why? I can't remember the last time I saw a trip report from there.

Apparently lots of people. Those that talked about it above. And all those people I see throughout the property on our last two visits there. We somewhat prefer mid strip, but MB has so much right there, it is a neat place to be. And, we like to walk.

    It was you!!! :nono:

Checked into The Hotel last Sep and our non-smoking room smelled of smoke. It was rather annoying. Used an entire can of Fabreeze on that room and that helped.

Does Mandalay Bay serve coke or pepsi products? (This matters for some people...like my boss!)
