Air Conditioning - I Need Your Input!!

I am trying to find out which hotels have the best A/C - I'm talkin' about the ones that can get below 65!!!

After reading a few trip reports - and hearing about hotels with useless a/c !
(I'm concerned with summer time, although I find winter rooms can get hot too).


I have some personal experience - I would love for you to add to this list:

(or at least change what I have noticed)

(and I realize that there are factors such as drapes, room orientation (sun in/out), automatic shut off/on (whether motion detector or not)

Excalibur - best a/c ever - 58 degrees for 3 days
NYNY - fair - around 68 degrees
Mandalay Bay - fair - around 69
Monte Carlo - good - around 66
Planet Hollywood - poor - could not get below 74
Paris - fair - around 70
Ballys - fair - around 70
Imperial Palace - very good - wall unit - self-controlled - around 64


As you can read, I feel that a cool temperature room is extremely important to my hotel experience - basically a hot room = uncomfortable = irritating!!


Any updates/additions - please feel free to post!!

Thanks for that info. The first thing I do when I get to my room is turn it down as low as it will go. Anything close to 60 makes me pretty happy.

I'm with you! I like my room cool. I usually attend my show during the end of Feb so temps outside are often 65-70. Often I shut the heat off in the room, open the windows if possible and put on the ac and request an extra blanket. This is easy with the cool temps outside. I made two trips at the end of april when outside temps were about 90. At the D (Fitz) AC was fine but as often talked about then was loud. THis was not a big deal cause my wife usually sleeps with a fan on year round so it was no different.

The second time was in the Island tower at the Trip. The AC was set on the floor and all you could control in the room was, the fan, low med high. We had to keep the drapes closed all day with the AC control set at high to stay comfortable. I way prefer control in the rooms.

Handy hint

Try to choose a hotel room where the sun doesn't shine on the window.
The room stays a lot cooler day and night. The temp stays really nice day and night.

I like to leave the air conditioner on for the cleaning ladies during the day.

 

Not sure how the rooms differ, but I was just in a Calais Suite in Paris last week. There were two thermostats - one for the bedroom and one for the living room. We kept both on 64 and it was DEFINITELY chilly in that room. Couldn't have asked for better A/C.

Harrahs is the only one I had sever issues with. The room faced the afternoon sun in the middle of the summer and on some kind of motion detector. First time I went 4 nights with no sleep.

 

You don't even have to be facing the sun... we had a room facing south at Harrah's where we had the motion detector a/c.

At night, because neither of us is moving around while we sleep, the air conditioning would turn off and by 8AM the room would warm up enough to wake us up where we would usually chuck a pillow or a sock or something towards the a/c panel on the wall to get the air conditioning back on.

 

Luxor pyramid rooms are the worst I've been in. The extra surface area on the windows means your room will never get cool in the summer, no matter how much the AC tries. Granted, I stayed there probably more than 10 years ago, so things may have changed. But it was the pits for my August trip back then.

 

That's one reason I won't stay at Harrah's. What a stupid setup in the desert!

 

MGM, I can NEVER get the room cold. Others don't seem to have that problem. I stay there 4 times a year and can't even get it cold in December!

 

I am a fan of the Aria, we stayed in May - first timers in Vegas - I would set thermostat to 68, leave, come back and it was sooo muggy. Wake up in AM, again it would auto-reset to 74, living in Florida used to warm. Did not like that at all... For me, the A/C was a constant battle....

I can't be bothered with that-LOL. I'll just stay some place where the A/C remains on.

 

Though BlueSkadoo said her's was noisy, the Hard Rock A/C's will get your room as cold as you want it... I set mine at 67 or thereabouts and it stays there the entire visit.

I will be staying at Harrahs on Sept. 3rd. I better pack my fan. As long as I
have the fan on my face I will be okay. Lucy

 

Lol Lucy, I have this vision of you walking around Vegas with a fan on your face. You might just start a fad! Just kidding, I know what you meant...

 

I keep the thermostat at 60 degrees. 60 degrees was possible at Bellagio, Mandalay Bay and Four Seasons.

thankfully Royal Resort lets you drop the AC temp to 60 but i wish i had know when i was at Circus Circus lol
