Questions about Gold Coast

Just made arrangements for a trip in October. Usually stay the entire 7 days at Bally's, but decided to spend 2 days at Gold Coast. Any advice for food, rooms, or how it would be to watch a football game, or anything else would be appreciated. Also, what is the most direct ride from the airport to GC. thanks much!

 

The casino should be pretty clear in the later evenings, as all of the blue hairs with the oxygen tanks need to be in bed early.

That said, I believe that telling the cab driver to take Tropicana west to I-15 north, exiting on Flamingo would be both the most direct and the quickest route.

 

I wish I could offer some advice (as I'll be staying there (again) next month), but can't think of anything special at the moment. As for watching sports, there's a good bar area for sitting and watching directly across from the sports book, as well as a 75-cent hotdog cart. You'll have a couple other sports watching options at the Orleans – a quick free shuttle ride away.

 

It is on Flamingo Rd....last time we stayed there we were still taking cabs...driver going back to the airport took Dean Martin to Tropicana to Paradise.

I like Gold Coast, rooms are just super small is my only negative there. From the airport tell the driver to go Swenson, Tropicana, Dean Martin OR Swenson, Flamingo.

There are 3 bars and a nice size sportsbook to watch football at.
I would give it a 5 out of 10. I can't grt comfy on there.

 

For rooms try to get a renovated one. They are pretty nice for a lower tier property.

For food I'm a big fan of the noodle place and Ping Pang Pong (I like it even with the horrible name).

 

I can say I have never had a bad experience at the Old Goat as me and my buddy call it..As a matter of fact just booked Fri/Sat night there in September.. My favorite spot to watch the games is not in the book itself,but the back VP bar with quieter atmosphere than the book.The usual bartender there Tom is very good and remembers customer names from year to year..

The Friday's there is well, a Friday's..The fact it is open 24hrs is great.Breakfast buffet is ok for the price,always something to eat and service is fine.I have never tried it at other times or the asian restaurants,but I hear they are very good.

I do not play table games there as the dealers are not very player friendly,I just stick to Video Poker and occasional sports/racing bets.
The prices in the gift shop are very reasonable,but beverages for the room need to be kept in a cooler or w/ice in the sink as they charge $15 a night for a fridge last I asked..
I'm not sure what rooms/floors have been renovated,but do ask for a higher floor,the lower floor rooms not facing Flamingo/Palms are next to the employee entrance alley and dumpsters,no view..

I did not stay there last year,but year before I packed a screwdriver/Swiss army knife combo as for some reason they sealed the windows shut,but very half-a$$ed..couple screws out and fresh air if you like.I just replace them before check-out.

The Premium rooms are very nice. They are small, but they have done a good job maximizing the space. I don't feel cramped at all.

During football Sundays, they open the showroom for viewing and there is usually plenty of room to get a table and relax. It's not like the Strip, where you have to defend your chair. There are a couple of big screens along with quite a few smaller TVs. In the past, they have had some nice drink specials, like $5 premium drinks and cheap beers.

 

I'd go across the street to the Palms to watch football. I was there last Sunday and the new sports book area looked nice.

 

I always liked the Palms sports book. Great place to see a game. Famous Daves is a quick cab ride down Flamingo. McFaddens is a nice Irish bar in Rio if you get the hankerin' for some Jamison and shepherd's pie.

Turtleman, you are correct. Although I believe I remember hearing that Rio was replacing McFadden's with another Irish pub. I don't know if they have reopened that space yet or not.

 

stay at gold coast

I would eat elsewhere and watch football elsewhere. As someone stated, Gold Coast appeals to locals and Grandparents. The table games will be at a lower minimum than at the Palms and Rio.

Supposedly, there is a FREE shuttle at the Palms now. I will report on this in September.

There is a free shuttle from Gold Coast to Orlean(further west) and Bills(on the Strip)

There is a free shuttle at Rio, across the street, that goes to harrah's and bally's.

Staying at the Gold Coast is adequate, I stayed one night there, the bathroom was 5.5 feet by 5.5 feet. That included the shower and toilet.

The only good thing I can say about the room is that it had a coffee pot.

Supposedly El Cortez Steak House is ok and lots of people like Ping Pang Pong. I tried Ping Pang Pong, I guess it is cheap and the food was about what I could get from street vendors in Singapore and Thailand. But the street vendors food was more flavorful.

Their Sportsbook is not comfortable. I think you sit at the bar and drink and watch the games. I know there are horse race boards, not sure if there are any TVs in the Sportsbook.

I suggest watching football at the new Palms Sportsbook also, that is run by Cantor Gaming(a division of Cantor Fitzgerald). I will make a report from there in September.

I am a Palms guy, so I eat at N9NE and Alize all the time those are two good restaurants right across the street from Gold Coast. Those stack up against all the other nice restaurants in Las Vegas. Although E at Cosmopolitan looks like the COOLEST menu and food ambiance.

For roads, Dean Martin is the way to go. But I have gone north on Paradise to Flamingo and all the way west on Flaming. I have gone Paradise north to Tropicana to the interstate then off at Flamingo. BUt Paradise to Tropicana. West on Tropicana and go under the interstate and take a right on Dean Martin Way. The Dean Martin to Hotel Rio Drive.
