My Dad is traveling to Vegas on these dates and is retired and enjoys playing poker. We are looking for any info we can get on low cost Hold Em Tournaments, if you have any info on great place to play during Aug 5-Aug 10 we would really appreciate.

    Thank you in Advance,

    This ^

You also need to clarify what "inexpensive" means. I think MGM has a pretty good structure and so does Planet Hollywood in terms of bang-for-your-buck. Both around $60 I think, but they might have changed.

Best overall value is the Venetian's $125 tournaments that start at 7pm.

I liked the Hard Rock's evening tournament. For about $65 or so (which includes add-ons) and a 30-minute advance entry, you start with $10K in chips. A deep stack like that adds a different dynamic to a moderately priced tournament.

i like the 50 dollar tourneys at treasure island, 11am, 2 pm, and maybe 7 pm? when i have been there, about 40 players, pay 5 places, and not intimidating at all. in fact, once last year, a mature canadian gentleman who had never played a tourney before and i chatted before it started...he wound up placing 3rd.

imperial palace might be a little cheaper, but i did not like it, and sometimes the cheapest tourney attracts the kind of players you think might be attracted...of course it attracted me...but just once.

I have done a lot of research on this

Most of the inexpensive tournaments give you very few chips w/ very short blinds & rebuys are allowed, which makes them less than desirable.
    I recommend:
Harrahs 8AM $25--$1500 chips, 15 min. blinds BUT NO REBUYS. Not horrid for $25
Harrahs 10AM & 3PM $60 or TI (several times a day) for $50 are the best lower level structures. Harrahs you get more chips & no rebuys, but they do have antes, so they are about a toss.
A solid one right now is Planet Hollywood (several times a day) for $65 w/ a guaranteed $1K first place/$2K total prize pool.
If you are willing to go $70-80, Mirage, MGM & some Caesars tourney have solid structure.
    Harrahs is my current favorite.

I would warn him to stay away from Bill's cheap tournaments unless he likes to gamble. I found them to be the biggest luckboxfest I've ever seen.

I always had a great time playing the Mirage tournaments. They are well run, have decent payouts, and the level of play is going to be a lot better than the ones you will find at a cheaper buy in.

Monte Carlo runs some good ones.

check out the alvegas poker link and then narrow it down to the buy in thats in the right range and the right area.
then look for the blind levels - 30 is good, 20 ok - 15 you'll be lucky to see one blind per level. also check the structure - if the blind level start at 100 then keep doubling it'll be a short tourney - and a lucky one.

    after that - be lucky!!

Second the endorsement of the TI $50 tournaments. Plus a separate poker room, not just a corner of the casino floor, is always nice...

We did play Bills for the first time

I thought it would be horrid--and it wasn't good on Friday night--stupid drunkfest.
It is a VERY soft tourney. BUT Tues-Thurs night it got about 2 tables. If you pay attention, you can often bet newbies off hands & buy pots; BUT you will occasionally get newbies who will call bets w/ any hit on the board (even crappy low pair) or 2 overs--they just CANNOT be bet off a hand.
BUT for $30 (DON'T rebuy), it was fun, and not the shovefest I expected)--and $30 doesn't last 2 hours anywhere else! DH cashed all 3 tourneys he played.

PH--it is a great payout now, BUT the structure is not great; you get $6K in chips but blinds start at 100/100, 20 min. blinds, no antes. Plays more like $3K in starting chips w/ 25/50 blinds--and it is actually a bit worse than that.
TI or Harrahs are a better structure for the price.
