I have a Mirage voucher...but I'm no longer in Vegas

Long story short, I have just today, found a Mirage voucher for $40 that I didn't see and obviously didn't cash. I have no plans to be returning to vegas and I am at the Vegas board to ask for advise.

Any ideas?

Contact the hotel. They may advise you to mail it back to them and they will cut you a check for it.

 

Generally, if you've been there in the past 60 days you can contact them and send in the voucher for reimbursement.
No biggie. People do it all the time.

 

We had mailed a voucher back to MGM about a year-ish ago and they returned it certified mail saying that they wouldn't be able to "cash it" and to bring it next time we came, and they would honor it. It was a more than a year old and they did cash it.

 

Too bad I didn't see this post earlier, I was playing poker at Mirage all day today, I could have asked at the cage if you can mail it in to them.

 

I had this happen once. I contacted another person on the VMB that I trusted, mailed it to him, and he cashed it for me and mailed me a check.

 

Not certain as I don't have one in front of me, but thought the back of the ticket had information on mailing it in.

 

Sports book tickets have info on the back for mailing them in.

 

I know this came up with somebody else last fall that had a Mirage TITO voucher... they checked and were told they couldn't mail it in.

As for what you can do:

First, bear in mind that the ticket does have an official expiration date. While most casinos will still cash it after the expiration date (within reason) they are not required to. To cash it in you would have to do so at the casino cage, it won't work in a TITO machine after its expiration date.

Thats important to know because these are pretty much your options:

1) You can take the loss. Either throw the thing out or put it with other Vegas mementos and consider it a $40 souvenir.

2) Hang on to it and maybe one day you will be back in Las Vegas and you can try cashing it in. If you do this you will want to keep it in a cool place and out of sunlight - it is thermal paper so even a little bit of heat will eventually work in to it. If you are back in a few months you should have no problem, but if you don't foresee being back until next year or possibly later than that its totally up in the air if they will cash it or not.

3) You can try to sell it. Post on eBay or Craigslist or something. You aren't going to get the full face value of the thing, maybe not even half... just depends on how much somebody trusts you, thats its not an already used voucher or something wrong with it. In reality this is probably more trouble than its worth.

4) You can try to find somebody who is going to Las Vegas and who will be at the Mirage and can cash it for you and then mail you the money or a check. This requires trust on your part because you will have to send the voucher and then wait for the money, in this case it would be unreasonable to ask somebody for the money up front or to mail you the money for the voucher... but you have a chance to get somebody who is going and will be able to cash it for you for no charge or a nominal amount.
