    Hi All,

Hubby and I are going to be in Vegas for 6 days :) Being the Vegas Virgins that we are what are some things that are a "MUST DO" for us?...and are there coupons/discounts to be found?

We opted to rent a car for our whole stay because friends told us horror stories about other transportation alternatives...so we rented a car knowing we would have AC LOL...and avoid crowed transit. Plus, we are going to take one day and travel to Cali...never been there either.

So, any suggestions or advice for this Vegas Virgin??? We are so EXCITED!!!

Renting a car was based on bad advice. Vegas is completely air-conditioned, and the cab rides (and alternatives) are cheap enough to be OK. If you drink (most in Vegas do), you'll wind up cabbing it anyway.

That said, if you have a car, you can see some stuff nongamblers are likely to enjoy. If you like the outdoors, the Valley of Fire is awesome. I went in April, when it just started to get hot. I couldn't imagine going when it is really hot, but if you are going in fall, check it out.

As for California, where are you going? L.A. is about 5 hours away, so if you're heading here, don't expect to see it on a day trip. You'll want to spend the night. L.A. is sprawling, which means it is harder to get places than in cities that are more vertical, so plan accordingly. And traffic can be very, very bad if you don't know how to time it. Let us know what you want to see in California, and many of us can help. Many of us live here.

As for things to see in Vegas, honestly, it's all good. Tell us more about what you like to do. Vegas had something for nearly everyone, provided you find it. Either way, plan to do less than you think you will. Vegas has a way of scrapping the best of plans ... gambling takes over, as does drinking and just having fun.

Not sure I would rent a car on my first trip, I was totally lost and disoriented the first time around. Everything is a big maze in LV until you get acclimated.

We cabbed it our first trip and took a Pink Jeep tour out to Hoover Dam, one of the best things I have ever done in LV! Since the first trip I have rented cars and I know my way around now.

If I were you I would consider just keeping the car for the Cali trip and using cabs and other options for everything else.

Keep an eye on the car rental rates. They change often and the reservation is easy to update.

    See a Cirque show.

Pick an area of the strip each night and check out the different casinos in that area. Visit downtown on a Friday or Saturday night.

Have a high-end burger, there are lots of options.

Welcome to the board! I can't imagine driving in LV...the traffic is too crazy for me plus I'm drinking something too much of the time. When the new Restaurant.com discount codes come out...buy some certificates to eat at really nice places at a reduced rate. You can also google, lv coupons to get some you may use. Hope you have a great trip!!

Don't plan too much from day to day and just try to live in the moment when you're there.

So much fun to be had. Wishing you a fantastic time!

Don't forget to catch a Bellagio fountain show at least once, and after sundown.
It still gives me goosebumps when the music starts and the fountains do their dance.

    !

My Husband and I are also going for the 1st time in October though for 5 nights and 4 full days. OMG we are booking up quickly. But, I also want to make sure I see and do everything because, I am sure we will never get back because of health reasons. Does anyone have any suggestions? to make sure our 1 and only trip is perfect!

Don't make the same mistake I did on my first trip. I walked the whole strip in and out of every casino (at least most of it MGM to Stratosphere and back) in 1 day and my legs hurt the rest of the trip.

First off... Car is not necessary...depending on where you are staying... plus if you like to tilt back an adult beverage ..they are everywhere...as are the Monorail stations..buses and cabs.. though I have to admit not enjoying the bus trip... cheap.. but...an experience..anyway...:confused2:...ever talk to somebody who kept taking out their teeth?....

REALLY dont try to do everything....you won't... and you'll be exhausted.... plus it leaves something for next time.... which you will do.....

Welcome to the board ddm15! Looks like you are already getting a lot of great advice. Just peek around all the forums and you will find Vegas info on just about any topic. My first trip to Vegas was in 1979 (I think) and I can't image going to Vegas as a virgin, that is so exciting. There will never be enough time to see and do everything, so just relax and enjoy. You probably won't want to drive your rental car when you are out and about the strip, it's much easier to walk than to fight the traffic and parking. But the car will be very useful for your other adventures. Good luck on the trip and have a great time.

The first trip to Las Vegas is always the most exciting.

I think renting a car isn't necessary the first trip. There is no way to see the entire Las Vegas Strip the first trip.

Walking The Strip is an experience in itself.

There is a bus, cab, and also the monorail.

Future trips, a car is useful to get to downtown and resorts away from the Strip like M and Red Rock which
    have their own unique atmosphere.

    Have a great time.

I disagree with the not renting a car thing. I would DEFINITELY rent a car. Even if you don't use it as much as you might think, it is much easier to just jump in the car than have to wait to a taxi or waiting for the Deuce. Just my opinion!
You will have a great time no matter what you do. I am not a gambler and never in a million years thought I would be vacationing in Las Vegas, but my husband and I have just a great time together when we are there. I cry when it's time to go home...lol! We will be there in Sept celebrating our Anniversary.
    Good Luck to ya!

I definitely don't agree with this. Parking a car at a hotel sucks, and that's after you find the lot. Sure you can use valet, but that is almost just as much hassle.

By the time you walk to/from car and traffic, it is MUCH FASTER to cab or use the bus. And it comes with a lot less aggravation.

OP, you don't need (and probably don't want) a car in Vegas. Not sure why you want to spend a day in California (when you live in Florida), but you sure can't see anything in a day. If you do end up renting a car, take a drive to Valley of Fire or Mount Charleston.

Don't get me wrong, if I am just staying local, not all the way down the other end of the strip, I don't bring the car. But to go to off Strip Hotels and other site seeing things, I just prefer to have my own car. I don't find it is a hassle at all.
I do agree with the trip to Cali....I did that once, and honestly, it wasn't worth the time or the money in fuel.

Not a yeah or nay on renting the car. I have been 12 or so times and this is the first time we are renting a car. Last time we went we had our personal car so that was a big reason why we are renting one this time. I like the freedom to go and do. Some of the trouble as a first timer is that you won't know really what you want to go and do. If I couldn't make a trip to In and Out I would be more than a little cranky and while I will deny I said so, we like to stop in at Double Down (it is the scariest place for a germophobe to go to!)
There is no way you will be able to see it all but what you do end up seeing will have you dying to go back and then you will be just like the rest of us nuts who cannot get Vegas off our minds.
