"Your in the middle of it all if you stay mid strip"

Its used in advertising and as peer pressure to stay at a certain place on the strip based on location.

My very first trip was in 2006 and I stayed at the Luxor. Before I discovered Vegas websites, I just booked it because I liked how the hotel looked and stayed there. I walked every where and didn't pay any mind to being far south.

Nowadays, reading trip advisor, this board, and other sites location seems to be a big deal. Is location a deciding factor for you?

Whether I have stayed at PH mid Strip or at the Luxor, it hasn't bothered me to walk from Mandalay Bay all the way to Wynn :faint:

How do you feel? Does strip location matter that much when booking or are all the hotels just rooms really??? The mid strip has become so crowded with people and hotels

I have always driven to Las Vegas, so I have always had a vehicle.

Even if I didn't have a vehicle, location would not be an issue for me.

There is always the bus, tram, or taxi. It wouldn't be a big deal for me to use any of those.

I don't like south strip so yeah, it matters to me. And I stayed my second time at MC so it's not like I haven't tried it. The fact the MGM dominates in casino ownership is another negative as further up the strip you can cross a street and deal with someone else. If Bellagio doesn't work for you, cross over to CP. If Wynn pisses you off, Palazzo is a walkway away.

There are a lot of people on TA that recommend mid strip as a reflex. It's where they stay and many folks on TA don't pay attention to what a poster is asking for. But I do try to pay attention to what people say they want. A lot of time they actually tend to be headed towards center strip attractions, shows and restaurants or their vision of Vegas is the Bellagio, CP and Mirage. I actively recommend south strip to people with kids because #1 there seems to be a better concentration of family stuff down there still and #2 I won't be there. I also recommend it to people who mention pools and their budgets and other interests fit MGM and MB.

You may also be underestimating the number of people who have walking issues or don't like walking and who participate in boards. Sometimes the advice they give assumes they people they are dealing with are like them. Places like Bill's and Flamingo are popular for that group not only for location but for quick access from room to strip.

Spoken like a true southern Californian.

Contrary to what I stated earlier, I will say that I kind of understand people don't want to walk far. It does take a long time to get around The Strip and time can be limited on vacation.

I am usually in town for a week, so time usually isn't an issue.

First trip I stayed at TI, and this next trip I am at Mandalay Bay. All the MB reviews say how far it is from everything else. However, for me it will likely work out as we are most likely going to be staying at the hotel, and enjoying the restaurants and shops. I've already seen the strip (I think I wore my feet down to bloody stumps with all the walking). I know I'll be back - we can do it bit by bit. I was so excited about taking my friend to O'Shea's so imagine my disappointment that it has closed. :( I'll miss the lucky leprechaun and his magic brew!

Where we stay depends on the reason for the trip - the past few years, we've only been going to Vegas for work trips (trade show for my husband and then a long weekend of fun added on) Even if we rent a car, we're not going to drive it most of the time we're on the Strip because we're drinking, and taxis are expensive (I'll take them when I need to, but I prefer to arrange my activities by where we are and where I'm willing to walk) And in March, it's much easier to walk from Stardust to Luxor (did that in 2001 for my mom's wedding:thumbsup:)

So yes, location is important to me, but that doesn't mean "mid-Strip" is my reflexive answer......

(for the trade show, location is EXTREMELY important - must be very close to whatever convention center is being used because at the end of the day, I have NO ENERGY to walk back to the room - I'm not a salesperson in my "real" world, so working for my husband - and standing on concrete - for a 10 hour day takes a toll on me.)

Constants in how we vegas are food, spa, golf, shopping, not hotel. We of course gamble but where we stay is determined by price, location and the experience we want and not whether we're on the B Connected/MLife/TR teat. Sure, we'll look at offers generated by previous trips, but we're every-house not one-house people.

Strip location can be important. It's all personal. Someone with a mobility challenge isn't going to think MGM to Wynn is a nice, doable saunter, for instance.

At the most basic level, there really isn't much difference between properties, within their respective market segments. That's where all the adornments come into play.

I like MGM, NYNY, and Monte Carlo because I prefer being in the middle of Mlife casinos so yes the location is important to me. I love the Mirage too, but if I hit a bad run, I'd rather have another Mlife casino next to me to change things up. Ever since MGM sold TI, I never liked the idea of having to walk to the Bellagio.

I like downtown as a destination over the Strip, but we always rent a car so that location isn't an issue. If we want dinner at MGM then gamble at Planet Hollywood then pizza at Cosmo, we just do it.

well, it is nice to stay at the B because Aria is just a tram ride away. when staying at MGM, you need a limo to get anywhere. other than that, it makes no difference to me.

Location is important but not most important. We like to split our 9-day trips so that we stay off strip the first few days(SP, RIO, GVR) and then stay the rest of the trip on the strip somewhere. We will book more center strip if we don't have as many scheduled plans for a particular trip.(that way everything is within comfortable walking distance.) We always rent a car, so location ends up being less of an issue for us.

Staying mid-strip has a very real ease to it plus an exhilirating ambiance and energy. But I like South Strip but I find I tend to take taxis over there.

It doesnt 'really' matter to us anymore (We are staying at MB next trip) but saying that ive just recently advised friends to stay mid strip on their 1st upcoming visit just purely on the basis its gonna be their 1st time in Vegas and it will be easier for them to get their bearings and visit more hotels/casinos that way, convienence more than anything else. But we have stayed as far north as Wynn and as far South as Topicana, also stayed mid strip Aria/Cosmo amongst others and every location has had its good points/bad points but nothing that would make it a clincher for me to 'have' to stay in that location again.

I am a CET guy, so south strip doesnt work for me. I did try NYNY last year for my annual Labor Day Trip, and while I liked NYNY I found out I didnt care for the South strip so much. I felt like Casino hopping was always a long walk.

I prefer mid strip where I can gamble at PH, dine at Paris and swim at Ballys and do very little walking in a day.

There are as many opinions as posters since it is based on your time, preferences etc. I have stayed at the Tropicana and downtown and since I go for a week to 10 days, time isn't critical and I refuse to rush from one place to another. I have liked the various hotels but never had a problem getting where I wanted to go to explore hotels, visit exhibits, see a show or dine somewhere special. One year, one of my goals was to see if staying off strip, ie Gold Coast, Rio, Orleans, or Palms would be a problem transportation since I dont rent a car. My conclusions were that it was pretty simple to get where I wanted by shuttle or by bus, and taxis if needed. For me a hotel is a place to sleep, shower and relax. For a country guy, I find the bus system pretty simple to use and easy to get around with so I would stay pretty much anywhere unless there were mitigating circumstances. With limited time, or someone making their first or, perhaps, only trip, things could be quite different.
