MLife hotel benefits kinda BS?

So I finally reached MLife Gold member, and as part of my tier benefits, I get room upgrades and late checkout as available. So I thought I'd give it a try.

Staying at the Vdara right now, I was unable to get any sort of upgrades on my room (and I think I have the most basic room without any view), and calling down for late checkout they gave me 1 extra hour free, which everyone gets if they ask.

Has anyone else actually gotten these perks because they're MLife gold members? Are they legitimately "not available" or is this what they tell everyone?

 

I hate them!! they are not generous as CET "Total rewards" but they have the nice Casinos in Vegas so u have to deal with them if u love their Casinos ... i get no love from Mlife

 

I have never gotten anything with Gold that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise--and I ask. The room would be just a view upgrade but I don't even get that when the hotel is empty. For the late checkout I am always told to ask my host to comp additional time. Uh, thanks, not what I was asking.

 

and BTW ... I have gotten good rooms and suits tipping $20 - $50 all over Vegas and AC ... 100% success rate tipping the front disk $50. then again I usually stay for 5 nights.

 

I am also ashamed to say that I see NO benefits whatsoever with Mlife at this point. Much better success with booking the cheap regular room and tipping the clerk $50 to get a free upgrade. Happened on my last trip to vegas. Stayed at the Aria, contacted my host and nothing was available to me. Went to the front desk and tip the clerk, room on the 51st floor with a helluva view. I'm bias to MGM properties so I unfortunately I am unable to compare it to CET and/or others.

 

New GOLD

I moved to Gold during my last Vegas trip (9/11) but did not realize it til I was home! I am planning to return in Oct so, I called Mandalay Bay host and asked "what is available to me?" I have 3 nights comped at TheHotel, $100 FP & $200 in resort credit.

Well, I decided I wanted a quick trip to Biloxi before that so, I called Beau Rivage and they comped 2 night stay.

I'm actually happy with my offers...so far.

I realize this may be helpful but, thought I would share my experience. BEST of Luck to you!!

Book the cheapest room and tip the front disk for better rooms ... if u tip and get a better room and it is not to ur satisfaction then go down again and tip for a another better room.

Most people do not care about the room especially first timers in Vegas "they will hardly stay in the room" ... but if u care like me then u know what u have to do.

 

Has "The $20 Trick" now officially become "The $50 Trick?"

 

Just speaking from my experience, I have had alot more success with $50 at your higher end hotels like Aria's and Cosmo's. $20 has done me well at MGM all the time and a few times at the Mirage. Honestly, in my opinion I try to research the days that i'm going to be in Vegas and if that property is pretty full, then I'll definitely try $50... If not I'll shoot for the $20... I usually just constantly check the rates like the day before my arrival and see if all the suites are taken and/or ask the clerk at the front desk... Its all a crap shoot, but hell thats why we're in vegas, to take chances...!!!!

 

That's a shame and thanks for the feedback... Worked hard to get that gold but it seems it was in vain... I'll start looking into taking my business to Caesars and Total Rewards... It's too bad too since I quite enjoy playing and staying at MGM properties.

 

It's a big joke. I'm Gold, close to Platinum, and have been denied the "complimentary upgrade" every time. And we always go during the week. But the funniest instance was when trying to check-in to THEhotel at 2:30 and the lady nastily said "it's too early for check-in" and I said "I thought Gold members could get early check-in?" and she smirked at me and said "no."

 

I'm not gold, but don't they send you offers, I'm not under the impression that you can just show up and ask for things.. maybe I'm wrong.

I'm the lowest tier and I still get some decent room rates in my e-mail. I got a comp room once. I would imagine if you are gold, your rates would be REALLY reasonable. Which to me is a benefit, if I get a great deal in my e-mail there is a great chance I'm gonna book it.

there are plenty of things here... you don't have to wait inline for the buffet or the coffee shop. Looks like you will just earn things faster...

Regardless I think you schedule this stuff in advance. Not just show up and expect the idiot 18 year old clerks to know anything. I don't think you can just show up early and ask for early check in, you probably have them note that on your reservation.

I had same problem with my Platinum Mlife card. been Plat for almost 3yrs and about 300,000 tier away from Plat Noir.
I visit Vegas at least 7-8 time a yr if not more.
Not once I was able to get a Strip view room. Even when they put me in penthouse floor suite.
Late check out is always hassle unless it's slow winter season - even 4pm
check out is fine.
Their comp is very inconsistent. seems like they give you more in the beginning to invite you back then regardless of how much you lost per trip, it gets worse and worse.
One month they set me up with $1000 FP, Penthouse suite, $150 Food per day then I lost bunch. return to Vegas following month, they put me in regular room and $350 FP.
My friend made to Noir early this yr. Only to find out pretty much
only difference is you get Free Limo from/to Airport without using your comp point but it's kinda useless comp for us Southern Californian anyway.
We drove there most of the time.
oh BTW Cosmopolitan is worse. plat there too. but host has no clue
what they are doing and very cheap comp too.
On my next trip, I am going to sign up for Wynn, CET and Venetian/P.
Time to donate my $ to someplace else. :Þ

 

Though I can understand the rest of your post, do not expect much from V/P.

 

What they are talking about is: when you are gold you get certain benefits from the tier... like complimentary room upgrade (when available) and late checkout.

But I think part of it depends on what you consider to be a complimentary upgrade... the last four stays I've had at MLife properties (Aria x2, Monte Carlo x2) all times I was put in a room with a view on a high floor which to some is an upgrade, while to others unless its going up to a suite, its not an upgrade.

So its one of those things thats hard to quantify: people could be getting upgraded all the time for being Gold, but not realize it, or they might even think they aren't getting upgraded ever because they aren't being offered suites.

 

Count me in the "getting no love from Mlife camp". For 3 years over 7 trips we were really getting great deals from MGM properties. We would often book comp nights at sister hotels back to back (sometimes 4 hotels in a row!) and never had any problem. I thought we were actually improving our ratings when we started getting more comp nights (3 or 4) at some places and also started getting comp nights at Mirage and Mandalay (never got free at Bellagio though). But after having been away from Vegas for 2 years while my wife finished her Masters (we did take some flight+room comp weekend trips to Beau Rivage in tha time) we are getting crap offers from MGM. And the final straw was when while trying to book hotel for our next trip we booked 2 nights at Monte Carlo (only one comp but its labor day weekend) and then 4 nights at Mandaly we were shocked to find out a few days later that had canceled our reservation with them with no follow up call or email at all! The rep even booked it over the phone initially but the record showed that it was canceled a few minutes later. Its not like they don't have 10 ways to contact me on file! Needless to say we were pissed. That combined with the VERY inconsistent service we've gotten from MGM properties over the years. Sometimes they act like we are VIP's and sometimes they act like we are Cousin Eddie and just asked for a zip-lock bag for the buffet.

On our last trip we stayed at CET properties for the first time and I have to say I'm very impressed with their customer service. We haven't traditionally spent much of our gambling budget at CET properties but that is going to change. I do like MGM hotels and casinos better but I'm willing to give Caesars a chance. Caesars Palace is the only one I'd say is as nice as the MGM hotels we like the most but being that we have been able to get comped rooms at Caesars lately that might be just enough to reel us in. We tried PH last time and think maybe we are too old for that crowd but we are giving Paris a shot this next trip and unless they really drop the ball I think we are going to be converts.

 

That's true. You aren't going to get a suite--the best you can probably hope for is a strip view but good luck with that.

I will say that on my last trip my 5th floor room with a fantastic view of an air conditioning unit might not have been an upgrade.

 

I have been a gold level member for the last couple of trips. I have never had an issue getting an upgrade or late check out when I asked.:confused2:

 

For everyone bashing MLife and saying they are going to give CET their business I would like to give my perspective.
MLife is far,far from perfect.The website sucks,the offers are inconsistent,the upgrades are not always there etc.etc.

Here is the other side of the story for the MLife haters.
I am a Diamond at Caesars and have been for many years.It used to be from my play at the Rio and then Caesars.Today it is only from my play in Atlantic City.
Why did I switch?
Two reasons:
1.CET properties in Las Vegas are weak.Outside of Caesars forget it!
2.I play table games and the comps kept getting worse and worse.

So when I look at my offers for an upcoming trip in Nov I see that Aria,Mirage,MGM,or Bellagio offers me a comp suite with Free Play.

Caesars is offer me an Augustus Tower room for $341 night
Rio is offering me a standard room for $139 night
Paris Red romm for $139 night.
My play is the same at both companies properties.

So I can stay in a comp Sky Suite at Aria or pay $341 for an Augustus tower. room.
MLife is working OK for me.

 

I am gold right now also with mlife but moved over to CET for good. I used to always bash CET but I have now stayed at CET properties the last 7 of my 8 trips with comped rooms and get great customer service and excellent upgrades when available. The only benefit I ever got with mlife was a cut in line at the bellagio buffet. Other than that you are treated just like everyone else. Their offers are always horrible compared to my CET offers, even when I play/lose more at their properties.

CET treats me really good and always has random contests to keep things interesting and exciting ( I will be 7 star status next year!) I love the ease of booking a room with CET, especially for longer trips. Comp balance, tier score, and accumulation of points is easy to track. Also love their central reservation system and online booking system. (hate calling hotel to hotel with mlife and mlife.com sucks for booking)

The properties aren't as nice but customer service and straightforwardness of players club makes up for it. If you can deal with a small decrease in room quality you'll be more than happy with CET. If you play high enough you may be able to score suites in which switching would be a no brainer.
