I will be arriving in town tomorrow afternoon, via plane and will be bringing about 1K cash for my trip.

How do you get your cash into town?

On person, carry on, checked bag...

    Any tips would be appreciated.

Never, ever put your cash in a checked bag, either 1$ or 1k$.
I ususally bring about 5k between myself and my wife for a 4-5 night stay.
We split up the cash (about half of the BR) and carry the rest in travelers checks in my carry on.

In my pocket and then in my fist when I have to go through the full scanner. If just the metal detector, just leave it in your pocket.
As others have said, NEVER in your checked luggage.:nono:

Agreed with those above... NEVER... let the cash out of your sight!!! I do carry a soft leather briefcase/laptop-case and keep the bulk of my $1K-$2K or so in a hidden, inside zippered pocket. I fly out of Reno, so I put the case into the machine, walk on the other side and it comes out... never any delay.

I'm not that comfortable doing the same on the return trip in Vegas, as the SWA Business-Select line merges with the wheelchair line and just when you think you're going to sail thru, you get behind 2 invalids who need all kinds of special attention! My bag has sat on the other side getting bunched up with a lot of others. So on the Vegas side, I do as Joe described, hold it in my hand.

I usually bring 4-5k with me. I used to to use a travel loop wallet.

But, now it just sits in a money clip. I wrap the bankroll in a rubber band before i got to the airport though. The money clip is metal so it doesn't go thru the medal detector with me. once past the metal detector its back in the clip in my front pocket.

I will have to remember this. I usually put my wallet, money clip, etc in my carry on (backpack) when I go through security. But, last year, I just put my money clip in the backpack and left my cash in pocket. When I went through the scanner, the TSA ended up patting me down. He asked, "what's in your pocket?" I told him cash. He then made me remove it and put it in a bin, and then made me stand in the scanner again. I was not comfortable with my $3k bankroll sitting on the conveyor belt in plane site or everyone. (I know, to some that's not a lot, but it's a lot to me)

I'm sure if something would have happened, they would have denied any liability. Since the TSA never touched the money. I put it in the bin myself.

Pocket and then hand for the body scan. Then back to pocket.

If you talk to the casino's cashiers cage ahead of time, you can make arrangements for them to cash a cashier's check when you arrive. They will want a copy of it sent to them about 3 days ahead of time to verify it with your bank. That way you only need a minimum in cash on you when traveling to their hotel. If you stay at their casino and gamble their on a regaular basis, they will issue you a check to take home as well. No need to travel with large amounts of cash this way. Check with you casino host if you need to clarify.

I bring a couple hundred to get me through the first day and carry it in my pocket. And then hit my bank the next morning for the rest.

Not sure how much you bring, but we usually have about $5k. I just carry it and would not take the time to deal with getting check at bank, then cash window, etc.

Might have $2-3k on me. A few thousand in bottom of carryon bag. For someone to steal that, even at the x-ray machine, they would have to open bag and dig around. Pretty difficult to do.

If we have to take out credit cards, cash, etc that never goes in a bin. It goes inside my carryon, along with cell phone.

I carry a little leather thing called a "wallet", it's really neat, has little pockets where money fits quite nicely, along with credit cards. It folds up and fits right in your pocket, when you need to extract cash, you remove it from your pants, open it slightly, remove a bill or two and then reverse the procedure and tuck the little thing safely and securely back in your pocket.

I just love the darned thing!:poke:

I know it has been said, but never ever put it in checked bags. :)

$1k is small enough that I would just put it in my wallet.
$2k-4k I'll just have an envelope(just a plain one, not a bank envelope)
$5k+ I would most likely have a carry on and place it in there going through the xray in some sort of inside zippered pocket

There would be a point where I would wire money, I doubt I will hit that point for a decade or so. :)

I'll second the idea from a few other posters above. Even with the new scanners, simply hold your wallet in your hands when going through. They will hand check it on the other side. The same would go for that envelope.

If you are extremely concerned with it. I would go to your bank and have them increase your withdrawl limit for the week. When you get to Vegas take the $1k out all at once. Yes, you will pay a $5 fee most likely. That $5 is worth it to many so they don't have to travel with it.

    Novel idea.

Actually, I ditched that years ago after too many back problems. I have my credit cards, etc in one pocket with a rubber band. Cash is folded in half in the other pocket. A small advantage with the cash is I can reach in and pull out a hundred without pulling out all my cash, or wallet.

Speaking of play money. I do chuckle watching people take a TITO, pull out the wallet and every so carefully put it into the wallet, making sure everything is in exactly the right place, and then put the wallet away. Then go to another machine and do the reverse. Me? Just stick in my shirt pocket with my players card.

I am more than willing to pay a $5 ATM fee to not have to worry about it. It will be more difficult this next trip again as I will have mom with me again & I am not only trying to get my stuff through, but her & her stuff also. She even puts her money into my checking account & I just increase the ATM limit for the weekend (I don't have to pay an ATM w/d fee to bank cause I work there & she would). So I only have to pay the machine.

Also- at WM today in the travel/luggage section they had small waist cash type holders for a few dollars - kind of like a thin flat fanny pack. Of course no travel alarm clocks lol. But I happened to stop & look at the waist wallet.

I actually use a credit line if I am staying at Paris - I had it set up a few years ago & as long as I use it one time a year it remains active. If I am down the street then it's not worth it to run up there & I just pay the ATM.

Yeah, I used to use one of those waist wallets. They loop on your belt and tuck inside your pants. I just use my pockets and a moneyclip now. I guess I'm less paranoid about it.

Since I will be a frequent visitor to Vegas I'm going to open an account at the closest bank to make large withdrawls and hopefully some deposits before I leave.

I bring some cash with me($2-$3K) and use a credit line which I have set up in every casino I play at.
For me it is the easiest. No worries,no ATM fees,no overstuffed envelopes.
Easy to set up and use.
